1. Directors commentary
After the first day of filming for my short film, I started to edit straight away to prepare the
clips in run for my film. I trimmed the clips and placed them in correct order so ‘action’ and
cut’ could not be heard from the director at the beginning and end of what got shot. I took
audio off 80% of the clips as it wasn’t useful and music fitted better in place of these parts
of the film.
Once all clips were placed in the correct areas of which I wanted with correct editing and
cutting to them, I started to add a soundtrack over these which was used as the background
music to add suspense. I used the background music to match the specific genre of what I
was doing. Once I had selected the music which wanted, I decided where to position it so it
placed well with the clips of the film. This was a challenge to find the right positioning as the
soundtrack to get it right moment for the correct time.
Once I was finished with the sound, I started moving onto the other things to edit. For
example, editing and filtering the clips to make it look the highest standard possible. I then
watched everything through again to double check the timeline making sure it was all right.
My entire film editing process took me around 1-2 weeks to make sure the process was as
closely too possible.
The genre of this short movie was a thrilling horror genre, I wanted to create a horror short
movie because I feel like it is the best style to create suspense for the audience. In the first
couple of scenes, there was a lot of close up shots being used. I used these types of shots
because I thought it would help the audience get a sense of suspense and also to try and get
a feel of how the women in the video acts. I thought these angles were suitable as it showed
the audience exactly what was going on as it kept cutting back and forth from sitting to
looking out the window. This shows mystery and intent for the audience. This also helped to
give some emotion of how the woman is feeling.
The second half of the video was set in a bathroom of a house. I feel like this location is well
suited and popular for the genre which is one of the most popular places for a horror scene.
Some of the shots were of the girl looking from below making it seemed like she was hiding
or scared.
