2. GUIDANCE
This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant
elements you need to cover your film production.
It is suggested you save this PP in a different name so you always
have a copy – some sections require you to delete the information
on the slide and replace with your own work
Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be
doing this!]
Add visuals as you see necessary
This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-
production phase.
Remember, you need to give as much attention to your sound
planning as you do to your visual planning
4. BRAINSTORM FOR FINAL IDEA
Name of Film: Tempus
Genre: ArtHouse: Portrait
General Idea: The concept of this
film is to show how time Is
precious.
Scene Ideas:
-Beginning: A Young child blowing out a candle. This is to celebrate life and its
symbolic to time.
-End: A Young women blowing out a candle. This is to celebrate life too and show
a repeated scene. This helps link the film together and adds to the concept of time
by adding emotions into it. This will make the audience feel either sad or happy,
depending on how they view the film .
-Through out I wanted to include nature to show how we are all linked. I’ve chosen
to include a jelly fish due to how delicate they are. Also, they live long lives so they
are timeless.
-Teenagers showing both good/fun times as well as bad/depressing times.
- Including baby footage both negative/positive. This will have more of an
emotional impact on the audience by getting them to sympathise.

8. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your film
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the visuals look and sequencing of your film and
create a structure for you to follow when filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the film before you make it; it
will make filming and production a more streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
9. STORYBOARDING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you film
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
https://www.storyboardthat.com
http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or copy
to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
11. SHOT LIST
Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what
you need to shoot for your film
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot description,
framing, cast/location info and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the scene and
other props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
14. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference stages
of production, using a table is suggested
Names: Contact
Information:
Roles:
Audrey Actor
Libby Actor
Maya Teenager Friend
15. CAST INFORMATION
Who is going to be in your film, how and why have they been
deemed your best choice? Do you have any backup options?
I have chosen to use close family friends for the cast. This is because i am
needing to cast a young child and a old lady. As a back up plan i am hoping
to use my friends family so that the shot is accurate and as planned. This
means the scenes wont need to change. My back up option would be to use
footage of myself as a child, blowing out a candle. My back up for a old lady
blowing out a candle will have to be my mum. This means the character will
change to a middle aged woman, but will still give off the same effect.
I am also using college friends to film footage with. This is because it is easy
and reliable, especially with being with them through out college hours.
16. LOCATION INFORMATION
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming,
recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions
The location i will be filming in will be: college, at home and the other footage
has been filmed as i have grown up. I will not need permission to film at
these places due to them being public areas. This means i don't need any
release forms and my production wont be delayed. However, if the cast
decides to drop out last minute this will cause a few issues.
20. RESOURCES, CONSTUME,
PROPS, COMSUMABLES, ETC
List, explain how you’ll acquire and provide an overview of
anything else you’ll need for your production – this is about
anything that isn’t cast, crew, technical equipment and
locations, but could be how those things will be moved to a
location, for example.
The props i will need to gather is cake and candles. This is
because i will be filming two birthday scenes to include in my short
film. This is because the film has two scenes that are exactly the
same, but include different characters.
Costumes will just be casual wear due to my film trying to capture
realistic life choices and situations. This means wearing any
clothing will look good in my film.
22. DIEGETIC SOUND
These are sounds in the environment, part of the ‘world’ your
character experiences – these can be recorded on location, produced
afterwards using foley techniques, etc. Some use of royalty free
sounds is permitted, but you must list their sources and information
Consider what you might need, how you are going to get it, etc
You could reference similar productions and the effect of their sound
mix and choices
The Diegetic sounds i will be using are the backing noises to the clips i have
taken. This is because my movie style is suppose to be realistic so by
keeping the noises realistic, it will create the effect i am wanting to display.
This will also make my scenes more effective, due to being displayed in a
relatable manor. This effect will give off emotional appeals which my target
audience will relate to. With this audio is will create both tensions and
happiness.
23. NON-DIEGETIC SOUND
These are the sounds/audio that the audience experiences, but
are not part of the ‘world’ of the character[s], this could be music,
sound cues, etc
Consider where you are going to get these, only royalty free
sources and original content is permitted – please track your
sources
You could also produce your own soundtrack using garageband
The Non-Diegetic sounds that i will be needing to include is a heart beat and a
clock ticking. The places that i will locate these noises is on the internet by using
youtube converter and freesound.com. These sites contain loads of royalty free
sound effects which will be suitable for my project. I would create these sounds
myself but they will be disorientated and not clear. For these noises, they need to
be clear and singular. This is because they are there to create tension within my
film.
