3. MIND MAP ANALYSIS
My mind map ideas are all quite good, they all could be used to create a very good and
effective factual web series episode. However, after reviewing my mind map, I have decided to
create a batman themed episode. I went with this decision as I am obsessed with the character
of Batman meaning that my passion for him will hopefully allow me to create the bet possible
product. Adding to that, I think that the concept for the product well work very effectively. This
is because the idea of Burton coming along ad changing the superhero universe is a massive
topic meaning there is so much I could do on the topic. The idea of me using the classic bat
symbol transition to change shots all work perfectly and add a nostalgic feel to the product.
Similar to this, I am planning to include the bang and pow graphics to my product again
sending the audience back in time. These features also link to the topic of the product as I am
talking about how Tim burton changed the universe from the camp 60s Adam west Batman, to
the dark 1989 Tim burton Batman.
I decided not to choose either of the others. This was because I felt the Harry Potter based
product would have been worked quite well however, I wasn't sure on the topic of the product
(how the different Hogwarts houses has had an affect on peoples lives). This is because I felt it
didn't really make much sense and also the batman idea would work so well. I decided to not
go with the Hitler idea as I am not as passionate about that topic as the other two and also I felt
like it might end up quite dull and I want my product to be very enjoyable.
4. MOOD BOARD
This image has been added to my mood board as it is an interview
from a batman fan meaning there is clearly going to be some features I
can pick up. I like the fact that the subject is wearing a batman t-shirt,
this symbolizes his passion for batman. I have also noticed that the
subject is not centered, this is a common theme throughout different
documentary interviews perhaps meaning I should try and incorporate
this technique into my product. The background also includes an
element of black therefore relating to the theme of the batman
character.
I chose this image of Ben Affleck as it contains a few good qualities.
Firstly, the background is very heavily batman themed. This instantly
portrays the subject of the product which is very important as it needs
to constantly be in the audiences mind. The dark background of the
product is also a clever feature as this again links to the batman theme
and conveying the tone of the character. For my interviews I would
like to include this quite dark lighting as not only does it look effective,
it also fits the batman theme perfectly.
5. MOOD BOARD
This image has been added as I would like to include a similar
batman themed transition. This specific one is good as its bat
symbol links to the batman character, it also contains some dark
colours to link with the batman theme however, also includes
some more vibrant colours and shades to fit the more light-
hearted tone of the Adam west Batman series. This feature also
adds layers to the product therefore adding a sense of complexity
to the series.
This Bam image has been included as I would like to include
similar graphics in my product. What I like about the subject is its
authentic look and how it relates heavily to the batman image. I
am going to use this in my product to transition perhaps to
different shots as if feel if I make it work right, it will look so
effective. The image worked for the 60s tv series because of its
vibrant colour therefore fitting the very “camp” tone of the series.
6. MOOD BOARD
I have chose this image as there is certain aspects which I like
which I think would work well with the shots of my presenter.
Firstly, the presenter is centered adding a professional look to
the product, he is also wearing a batman t-shirt therefore
ensuring that he maintains the theme of the video and
constantly keeps the videos subject in the audiences minds.
Adding to this, in the background of the shot, there is a
number of different batman themed books and figures which
is used for the same purpose as the presenters t-shirt. The
lighting used in the background is a darker shade of blue. This
heavily links with the theme of batman as some of the batman
costumes have been re-create into a blue and grey colour
way, so perhaps the presenter is going for a unique and
alternate look.
This shot works well for its purpose. This is because its
bright vibrant lighting fits the marvel theme perfectly, the
presenters microphone also ensures that the theme of the
product is shown throughout. This is a good little feature to
include as it constantly keeps the videos subject in mind.
The location of the product is also perfect as it is in the
heart of superhero fans therefore really conveying the
superhero theme.
7. STRUCTURE
Presenter- My product will begin with shots of the presenter sat in a small set. The set will be
batman themed, this will include dvds, posters etc. The presenter will also be wearing a batman
shirt to match the theme of the product and to also show that they are a fan of Batman himself.
want the idea of the presenter to be a fan to be conveyed as this will make the audience listen
what they are saying as it will appear that they are very passionate about the topic therefore
a good knowledge of the character. The shots of the presenter will be used when needed, and
there to add layers to the product and make it interesting to watch.
Still images/videos- Both these features will be included in my product when they are needed.
This will be when the presenter is talking about a moment or character from the Batman
therefore I will feel the need to display this one screen mainly for the audience. This will allow
audience to not only get an aural image but also a visual image making them have a better
understanding of the product. The addition of images and videos also adds layers to the
therefore adding a sense of complexity and professionalism to my episode.
Graphics/transitions- In my product, I am planning to use the 60s bat transition for when I
switch between some shots. I wanted to include this because it make the products aesthetic fit
the theme perfectly whilst also looking very clean and authentic. I am also planning to use the
pow and bang graphics from the original series. Both aspects would add a nostalgic feel to the
product which is a nice feature for any older audience watching
8. STRUCTURE
Interview- I want to include an interview in my product because it allows the audience to get
a view from another persons perspective. For my interview I will also choose someone who is
huge fan of batman. This is good as there passion will be displayed on camera. The fact that
they are passionate shows that the interview will actually be useful for the audience as they
actually a fan of batman meaning that they know what they are talking about. I think I will
the interview inside. I am still debating what location to film my interview in. This is because
there is pros to both inside and outside. Filming inside would be good as I could mess
with lighting and make sure that it is perfect. This will create a better shot and make the
product look much more professional and clean. Whereas, if I film outside the interview will
look more realistic therefore adding that realistic and authentic feel to the product which I
would like to add. However, the problem with filing outside is the shot might not look as
and I may have a slight problem with the audio if there is strong wind.
Music- I will use music through the majority of my product. This is to add a sense of
complexity to the product and make it seem as professional as I can. I will use music to fit the
tone of the dialogue or what images are displayed. This is used to convey the tone further
just the images displayed on screen. My product will definitely include some sort of either
stereotypical superhero music or more specifically the batman theme music.
9. SCRIPT
Fade in:
Presenter- sat in the studio: Batman, one of the biggest and most famous superhero's of all
time. Famous for his outstanding detective skills and infamous villains. A hero like no other
as he does not infact possess any superhero powers, Batman relies on his martial arts skills,
physical strength, detective skills, intellect and wealth to face the criminals of Gotham city.
This has lead to a lot of controversy for the character as some believe him not to be a
superhero because of his lack of supernatural abilities. Never the less, It is well known that
batman is the biggest on screen superhero of all time but how did the character get where
he is today? Hello my name is Leonard Sabine and welcome to the first episode of Batman
uncovered.
Bat Transition
Presenter-narrating over some videos/images: It all started with the 1960s batman tv series
and the 1966 film Batman starring Adam West as the caped crusader and Burt Ward as
Robin. The series aired 120 episodes split between 3 seasons from January 12 1966 to
March 14 1968. It was known for its upbeat music, “camp” style and light-hearted nature.
The series was mainly aimed at a younger audience which is very clear when watching the
series. Infact, the series was described as by its executive producer William Dozier as “the
only situation comedy on air without a laughing track.” Despite this, the series was loved

Presenter in the studio- The series however was still represented as very camp and cheesy
which meant that the Batman character wasn't taken as serious as he should be. For the next
decade, there was no batman released on screen. The comics were obviously still being
printed however, batman on the big screen was very dry and he was still left in the very
lighthearted image of the 60s.
This was until Tim Burton was assigned the role in 1986 to direct the 1989 Batman.
Bat Transition
Presenter narrating over images/videos. The film was not actually allowed to be greenlit
until after the success of Burtons Beetlejuice. He cast Michael Keaton as batman which
caused a lot of controversy. This was because of his previous roles, he had been typecast as
a comedic actor therefore many fans doubted that he could portray a serious role. Jack
Nicholson was cast as joker however, he only accepted the role under strict conditions
which included top billing, a high salary, a portion of the box office profits and his own
custom shooting schedule. When released, the film was a critical and financial success
earning over $400 million in the box office. Keaton's portrayal of the character was loved by
many and is still considered one of the best batman's performances of all time.
Burtons retake on the series was huge for the batman character. He portrayed a significantly
darker tone and allowed the character to transform form the cheesy batman from the 60s
11. SCRIPT
Presenter- sat in the studio: Adding to that, lets hear an interview which I managed to get
with Nigel, a batman superfan to see what his views are on the subject.
Interview
Presenter- sat in the studio: Burtons success opened peoples eyes to how superhero films
could be portrayed on screen, his two batman films definitely opened the door for the
marvel film universe, starting with x-men and Spiderman in the early 2000s and then
spawning the marvel cinematic universe with Iron Man in 2008. It is clear that Burton had a
significant influence on the success of the enormous marvel cinematic universe which is so
loved today. Without Burton, superhero films would not be as they are in todays society, we
should all thank him for what he has done for all superhero fans across the world.
Thank you for watching the first episode of Batman uncovered. Come back next week when
we talk about the effect of Ledgers joker on the franchise. That’s all from me, I’ve been
Leonard Sabine and I’ll see you next time, have a good one guys.

14. RESOURCES ANALYSIS
I have collected all of my resources for my project very specifically. All of the ones I have
chose will not all make the final cut of my product however have all been chosen as they fit
the theme of the product perfectly and also fit the script well. I feel like a lot of the images
will not be used as I want to make sure the products always a constant pace. I feel images
would slow down the pace and not allow the product to run as smoothly as it possible
could.
I think I do still want to include a few images, this is so I can include the classic 60s Batman
fighting sound effects when the images are displayed. I want to include this feature as it
creates a prominent nostalgic tone for the product whilst also linking to the batman theme
incredibly well.
