I have included the director Quentin Tarantino
as I want to include a feature similar to the
blood and gore which he includes in his films.
This is because it makes the film seem more
brutal which is exactly the theme I want to
convey in my product. However, I will use mine
to create suspense whereas he uses his in a
slightly more light hearted way. I also don’t
think mine will be as extreme as his. As well as
that, I feel this will appear to my target
audience the most.
I have included a scene from the
film the Machinist starting
Christian Bale. This is because
the whole film has a very dark
and depressed tone to it which
symbolizes the story of the film
perfectly. This is similar to what I
want to do with my trailer as I
want the aesthetic of my product
to almost tell the story as it will
portray the trailers dark story.
I have included the film taken
in my mood bard. This is
because it fits into a similar
genre as my product. I would
also like to include some
similar features to what Taken
does. For example, I would
like to include some of the
films intensity as it manages
to build this up very well. The
seriousness of the film is also
an aspect I’d like to include.
This is because this element
will attract my target
audience and portray an
overall very mature tone.
I have included the film jaws. This is because not only does the film
include an element of violence and brutality, the film also builds up
tension incredibly well. It does this by having an incredible soundtrack
dedicated to the shark which plays every time an attack may happen.
This forces the audience to be on the edge of their seats as it makes the
scene very intense. The fact that the film also doesn't’t reveal the shark
till later in the film leaves a sense of mystery which is also a great
technique as it creates even more tension and suspense.
I have included the
Netflix series Dark on my
mood board. This is
because its colour
scheme is very similar to
what I want to include
for the day shots in my
product. This is because
it creates a very dull and
emotionless atmosphere
which is the theme I
want to convey in my
trailer. This will relate to
the emotionless attitude
of the stalker/murderer
and help the product
maintain a
corresponding theme.
This is very important as
it will attract the target
audience and keep them
interested throughout
the trailer.

6. Mood Board
I have included the director
Tim Burton on my mood
board. This is because Burtons
films are usually very dark
themed and are also very
unique. This inspires me as
although I want my product to
be very dark and gripping I
also want it to be unique and
stand out from other products
in the same genre.
I choose the film Dracula Untold
to go on my mood board. This
was mainly because of the
gloomy colour tone of the film. It
creates a very dark atmosphere
for the film which is exactly what
I want to include in my product.
It allows the audience to know
the films theme without even
having to really watch it as it
portrays such a clear theme. The
film also includes quite violent
aspects which is also similar to
what I would like to include in
my product however, I think they
will be more extreme and gory in
my product. In certain places,
the film also builds up some
tension which is obviously an
element I would like to include in
my product.
This Dark Knight Rises poster
interests me mainly because of
its extremely dark theme. It
highly reflects the theme of the
film and advertises the film
truthfully. Although I am
planning to have my colour
pallet this dark for my product,
its mature and dark theme
significantly inspires me.
The film IT has given me
inspiration for my product
because of its thriller genre.
The film builds up the tension
well and creates a very scary
atmosphere. Although I may
not want to exactly scare the
audience, I do want to build up
tension and suspense. This is
so the trailers purpose is
achieved.
I have included the film the Dark Knight on my mood
board. This is because the films action sequences and
suspenseful scenes highly inspire me. I would like to
include some similar techniques in my thriller as they
work perfectly for their purpose.
American Psycho inspired me
because of Christians Bales
psycho nature. I would love to try
to include the films element of
danger and intensity in my trailer.
This is to create a mature tone
and to fit the thriller theme. The
film is also directed incredibly
well.

7. Mood Board
This piece of photography
inspires me because of its
colour scheme. The picture
includes very low saturation
and was clearly taken in quite
low lighting. I also love the
background. It creates a very
dark and mature tone for the
photo. Although everything is
very dark in the photo, the man
still highly stands out from the
background. The photographer
has managed to do this by
focusing on the man and trying
to capture every detail on his
face. I might use a similar
technique in my product as it
works incredibly effectively.
I have included these images because of their level of saturation. The images include a very low
level of saturation which is what I would like to include in my product. This creates a very eerie
feel to the trailer. I also like the location of the images as they both look quite discrete which
may be a good location to film in for my trailer. One of the images includes fog. This is also good
inspiration for me. The dead trees in the right image also creates quite a suspenseful
atmosphere which would perfectly in my product as I want to make it as gripping as possible.
I have included Batman begins.
This inspires me because the film
includes a dark tone which is
similar to what I want to include.
As well as that, the film is also
filmed and portrayed very
realistically. This is because of
the director, the sets and the
characters. I think I would like to
include this element in my
product because it makes the
film seem more intense and
exciting.
The film Heat inspires me a lot. This I
because it fits into the same genre as
my product therefore I can collect
inspiration from many different
aspects of the film. For example, the
film incudes quite a dark tone
because of its shots and low
saturation. It also includes intense
action scenes which creates
excitement for the viewer. Although
my product is only a trailer I would
still like to include action a then it
portrays the tone for the rest of the
film.
I have included this shot of James from the
first twilight film. This is because the
character of James shares a few qualities of
what I want my villain in my product to
have. James is very obsessive and shows no
mercy. This is one of my inspirations for my
villain. The film as whole is also filmed in
very low saturated light. This creates a
moody and negative atmosphere. This is
similar to what I want to do for my product.

8. Mood Board Analysis
How does your mood board inspire your project?
My mood board inspires my project because it includes many different types of films which I have collected
inspiration from. They have inspired my product because of many reasons. Firstly, the different colour tones
included in the films. I have choose films with a very low saturated colour tone as this will portray the
message and create the correct atmosphere for my thriller genre trailer. I have also took inspiration from
characters. I have choose stalkers who will share similar qualities to the one I want to include in my product.
This allows me to see a good example and try to translate that into my product. My mood board includes
some location ideas which I have took inspiration from. This is from images I've found and films I have
watched. The mood board allows me to see my idea visually and collect new ideas from existing products. As
well as that, I have collected inspiration from different directors. I have thought about the styles they use
and the type of films they create. This inspires me as I can take what features and techniques they include
and try to use that in my final product.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will highly influence my final product. This is because I have collected many different ideas
and techniques from it. This includes different colour tones. I have decided that I will use similar colour tones
to different films and scenes that I have included on my mood board. This is because the films I collected
may have been either a similar tone or a similar genre to my product therefore, the techniques and features
included in them can be adapted and added into my product. I will also definitely use the idea of suspense
and excitement that many of the films I included on my mood board include. This is because some of them
like Jaws and the dark knight are directed very well therefore I know the techniques included in the films
work and fulfil their purpose.

9. Key Influences
I have included the director Christopher Nolan as one of my key influences. This is
because Nolan has had a huge impact on the film industry and some of his critically
acclaimed “masterpieces” have indulged into the thriller genre. This includes his
dark knight trilogy and Inception. Both these films include some important features
in them which I want to try to incorporate into my product. Firstly, both films
include incredible scores, most famously the dark knight score. The scores are so
renowned and memorable. However, that is not heir best quality. Especially in the
dark Knight, the batman and joker scores work perfectly to create tension and build
up suspense throughout the film. It does this by playing whenever a sense of
excitement or danger could occur. This leaves the audience on the edge of their seat
and completely absorbed in the film therefore, fulfilling the films purpose. Nolan's
films also include very well directed action scenes and a highly gripping stories
which creates a very tense atmosphere therefore again, indulging the audience into
the film.
I have included the writer Stephen King as on of my key influences because he may not be a
film director but he has had a huge impact on the thriller genre as a whole. His books and
intense stories have shown how to build tension just from words on a page. This is has
advanced peoples skills on how to build tension and suspense in every media area. This
influences my product as from his work I can see how to build up tension immensely and try
to translate that on screen. Without King, the concept of building up suspense and tension
may not be the same.

10. Key Influences
The film the Dark knight is one of my key influences. This is because nearly everything
about the film is perfect. But, most important to me, it fits the thriller genre
fantastically. First of all, this is because the action scenes in the film are very well
executed and directed. The fast pace and excitement of the action scenes create an
exciting and intense tone leaving the audience gripped to the film. I would like to try
and achieve this in my trailer as I want my product to be as intense as possible. This
will convey the tone of the actual film therefore allowing the audience to have a slight
preview of what they are in for. As well as that, the soundtrack in the film adds to the
intensity of the film as the two main characters have their own scores. This creates
intensity as we have an idea of what is going to happen but it is not exact. This leaves
the audience on the edge of their seat which is a key purpose for a thriller.
The film includes a very dark theme and tone. This influences my product as it also
going to include a very dark and emotionless tone to my product. This is to convey the
negative message of the trailer and also to portray the emotionless nature of the
stalker. The films seriousness and realistic nature is also an an aspect I will include in
my trailer. This is because my trailer is based on an obsessive stalker therefore it needs
to be taken very seriously. I want the aspect of realism in my product as I want the
tension and intensity in my trailer to be as high as possible therefore I need the
audience to almost believe in what they are watching.

11. Key Influences
The film the boy next door is a key influence to my product. This film may not be the
best made film, however, it did influence my product. This is because the film is based
on an obsessive psycho therefore sharing many ideas with my product. From this film, I
gained the knowledge of how to change the tone of a film. This is because the film starts
very lighthearted however, as as the film progresses, the tone completely changes. It
becomes much more serious and intense. I would like to include a similar feature in my
trailer as this builds up suspense and fits perfectly into the thriller genre.
The film Fear is included in my key influences. This is because the film is
about a psychopath who sees the girl he loves as his possession. This
influenced me as my trailer will be about a man who meets a young girl and
instantly gets attached. From Fear, I can use the films build up as it builds up
to the climax well. Mark Wahlberg's performance is also good as he portrays
the insanity of obsessive nature of his character well. From this, I can pick up
different techniques which I can then tell my stalker to include when
directing him in production.

12. Key Influences
The character of James from the first twilight film was definitely a key influence for
me. Although, the actual film is very poorly written, some of James's characteristics
are very similar to wat I want my stalker to be like. He is very obsessive and tracks
Bella wherever she goes. This influenced my product as I want my villain t share that
quality and track the young girl wherever she goes. If executed correctly, this create
a very suspenseful product. The actual film Twilight also influenced me in the way
that the colour scheme reflects the emotion in the film. I will use a similar feature in
my product as it intensely portrays the tone and theme of the product.
One of my main key influences for my product is definitely the director Alfred
Hitchcock. This is because he is one of the most well known directors in the thriller
film genre. His technique to build suspense is significantly unique however works
extremely well. His style is iconic to many film lovers around the world. This highly
influences me as I want my product to look unique and be different form other films
however, I want to still be able to build significant suspense throughout my trailer.
