Soundtrack
• Clip 1
– Quite menacing.
– Music that would fit in a
horror movie.
• Clip 2
– More happy.
– Type of music that would
fit better for a date or
something else romantic.
Shining
• They added in a more happy sounding narrator and
different voice clips spliced in to give off the effect
this film is supposed to be a more family friendly
movie.
• Happy music playing in the background.
• Colourful lighting.
• Editing in various scenes, cutting and removing the
horrifying and scary scenes, to make it feel more nice
and heart-warming.
Scary Mary
• Changed the texts and even the name to make
the viewer on edge.
• Lighting has been made darker, to add to the
horror aspect.
• Shows children crying and edited to make it
look like Mary Poppins is harming the
children.
Stereotypes
Men
• Usually seen as heroic.
• Strong and powerful.
• Usually in charge, and have
most of the jobs.
• Work hard.
Women
• Usually the damsel in
distress.
• Mostly do house works.
• Are not as dominant or
powerful as men.
• Do not have jobs most
often.
Stereotypes
Upper Class
• Wear fancy suits,
monocles and jewellery.
• Capitalists, only care
about money.
• Own fancy houses with
nice furniture.
• Usually seen as
overweight.
• Have big jobs like owning
factories.
Working Class
• Rough clothing.
• They care about each other
and want to be able to
afford more nice things.
• Usually live in houses that
are not as clean, and do not
have such nice furniture.
• Seen as underweight
usually, since they cannot
afford to eat normally.
• Work in rough jobs like in a
factory.
Stereotypes
Old People
• Slow to learn things like
technology.
• Always keep talking
about the past.
• Usually have wisdom and
knowledge.
• Wrinkled, have long big
beards, usually seen as
retired wizards.
• Seen needing canes to
help walk properly.
Young People
• Carefree.
• Immature.
• Usually seen as
punks
• Usually teenagers
dealing with family
troubles or
depression.
Iconography- Western
• Sandy deserts with cacti.
• Old style wooden buildings.
• Old style swing doors.
• A saloon bar.
• Riding a horse.
• Cowboy hats and boots.
Iconography- Sci-Fi
• Takes place within space, either on a
space ship, or a planet inhabited by alien
like creatures.
• Weird alien creatures that have usually
different languages, as well as try to
have human like traits.
• Would include advanced technology, to
suggest it takes place within the future,
such as how it would have mechanic
forms of life such as robots.
Iconography- Fantasy
• Many different creatures, like Unicorns, Pegasus’s, dragons,
etc.
• Magic used by wizards and mages, maybe even witches.
• Stories usually involve a heroic knight like character who has
to save a princess who is in distress.
• Villages of mythical creatures that usually act human-like, as
well as do normal stuff humans would.
• A medieval like setting.
Narrative
• Narrative Definition
– A bunch of different events that all connect to
each other, usually in a spoken or written form, a
story pretty much.
• Linear Narrative Definition
– Start to finish storyline that has no flashbacks or
flashforwards.
• Linear Narrative Film Example
- Disney films, with how they usually would make
straight forward films on classic storytales.
Narrative
• Non-Linear Narrative Definition
– Usually contain flashbacks to older events of the story,
or flash-forwards to future events that could happen.
Sometimes the stories usually happen within a weird
non chronological order.
• Non-Linear Narrative Film Example
- Tarantino’s movies, he usually has the films in non
chronological order, such as Pulp Fiction, how that film is
split across different stories by which each events happen at
different times, until eventually crossing together building
up the entire films narrative.
Clip Analysis – Kanan and Erza vs Darth Vader
fight from Star Wars Rebels
• For costumes Darth Vader wears a all black suit with a black cape, whereas the other characters
wear clothes with more formal natural colours. The good characters look more rounded and human
like to appeal to us, and implies to us that they are the protagonists, while Darth Vader and the
Storm Troopers look more robotic and serious, to imply they are the antagonists.
• There are various fast camera angles, since this is supposed to be more action packed, mostly to
make Darth Vader look more powerful and imposing as a threat to the heroes, such as how it
usually uses mid or high shots when looking at him. One example would be the beginning of the
clip, where the camera turns to Darth Vader walking towards the camera as it slowly zooms in, until
it then cuts to the fight happening, to give Darth Vader a more imposing entrance to both the
characters as well as the audience.
• There is not too much dialogue, but whenever dialogue its used it is either Darth Vader taunting, or
the main characters cheering each other on, maybe to show that this scene does not need dialogue
to continue or have significance on the narrative.
• The colours are darker, making a more moody atmosphere for the fight, to make the audience feel
more unsettled and on edge, to imply that the characters are more at threat during this fight.
• Most props are laser gun like weaponry, explosives and lightsabers, since this is a fight against Darth
Vader and the Storm Troopers.
• Music is more bombastic and orchestrated, to add to how much of a great threat Darth Vader truly
is, having the music get more fast and bombastic as the fight goes on, until the end when they think
they have defeated Darth Vader the music gets calmer and slower, which makes them feel like they
achieved victory.
• Has a twist at the end, when they think they have defeated Darth Vader, he slowly rises up, which
causes the characters to escape. The camera shots change between having more lower shots on
Darth Vader, while the characters have higher angled shots, would give the impression they have
impowered Darth Vader, which they are just retreating battle, which still makes Darth Vader feel
like a threat.

  • 10. Scary Mary • Changed the texts and even the name to make the viewer on edge. • Lighting has been made darker, to add to the horror aspect. • Shows children crying and edited to make it look like Mary Poppins is harming the children.

  • 16. Iconography- Fantasy • Many different creatures, like Unicorns, Pegasus’s, dragons, etc. • Magic used by wizards and mages, maybe even witches. • Stories usually involve a heroic knight like character who has to save a princess who is in distress. • Villages of mythical creatures that usually act human-like, as well as do normal stuff humans would. • A medieval like setting.
  • 17. Narrative • Narrative Definition – A bunch of different events that all connect to each other, usually in a spoken or written form, a story pretty much. • Linear Narrative Definition – Start to finish storyline that has no flashbacks or flashforwards. • Linear Narrative Film Example - Disney films, with how they usually would make straight forward films on classic storytales.
  • 18. Narrative • Non-Linear Narrative Definition – Usually contain flashbacks to older events of the story, or flash-forwards to future events that could happen. Sometimes the stories usually happen within a weird non chronological order. • Non-Linear Narrative Film Example - Tarantino’s movies, he usually has the films in non chronological order, such as Pulp Fiction, how that film is split across different stories by which each events happen at different times, until eventually crossing together building up the entire films narrative.
  • 19. Clip Analysis – Kanan and Erza vs Darth Vader fight from Star Wars Rebels • For costumes Darth Vader wears a all black suit with a black cape, whereas the other characters wear clothes with more formal natural colours. The good characters look more rounded and human like to appeal to us, and implies to us that they are the protagonists, while Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers look more robotic and serious, to imply they are the antagonists. • There are various fast camera angles, since this is supposed to be more action packed, mostly to make Darth Vader look more powerful and imposing as a threat to the heroes, such as how it usually uses mid or high shots when looking at him. One example would be the beginning of the clip, where the camera turns to Darth Vader walking towards the camera as it slowly zooms in, until it then cuts to the fight happening, to give Darth Vader a more imposing entrance to both the characters as well as the audience. • There is not too much dialogue, but whenever dialogue its used it is either Darth Vader taunting, or the main characters cheering each other on, maybe to show that this scene does not need dialogue to continue or have significance on the narrative. • The colours are darker, making a more moody atmosphere for the fight, to make the audience feel more unsettled and on edge, to imply that the characters are more at threat during this fight. • Most props are laser gun like weaponry, explosives and lightsabers, since this is a fight against Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers. • Music is more bombastic and orchestrated, to add to how much of a great threat Darth Vader truly is, having the music get more fast and bombastic as the fight goes on, until the end when they think they have defeated Darth Vader the music gets calmer and slower, which makes them feel like they achieved victory. • Has a twist at the end, when they think they have defeated Darth Vader, he slowly rises up, which causes the characters to escape. The camera shots change between having more lower shots on Darth Vader, while the characters have higher angled shots, would give the impression they have impowered Darth Vader, which they are just retreating battle, which still makes Darth Vader feel like a threat.
