4. People
Why are people needed in an ICT System (think to Miss
Pascoe’s work)
No ICT system can work without people being involved in
various stages.
The first stage will be for analysis, design, implementation
and testing of a system, which will be varied out by
systems analysis and programmers.
These systems are built to suit a particular client, end user
or audience and the computer specialists will work to meet
requirements of the client.
Systems are much more likely to succeed of the clients and
end users are involved at every stage.
5. People…
Large organizations are often divided up into department that carry out the four main functions
of a business they make sue of IT in most aspects of the business.
Sales, purchasing. Finance an operations.
Departments will communicate and exchange information with each other and with external
bodies such as customers and suppliers. This will be done with various ICT facilities such as:
Email, finance, payroll, budgeting/forecasting using spreadsheet or special purpose software,
stock control using relational database management software, marketing of products and
services including websites and the media.
Networks and intranets can help colleagues to communicate and share data to produce an
efficient organization even if some of the company are in different locations around the world.

9. Data
The definition of data is raw facts and figures or a set of values. The
following are some examples of data that might be input.
Raw facts and figures or set of values. For example:
25, 30, 45, 60
Jones, Smith, Parker
A, B, C, D, E
Data can be inputted by different devices – Name some please….
10. Data
Data can be inputted by some of the following:
Keyboard
Barcode reader
Scanner
Digital camera
Microphone

12. Procedures
Procedures – important to ensure procedures are in place. Most organizations have a code of
practice in place which governs the way in which their ICT system can be used by their
employees. All laws and legislation that have been introduced by government must also be
taken into account when using ICT systems.
These include Data protection Act, Computer misuse act, copyright, designs and patents act and
the freedom of information act.
Users must ensure that they follow security procedures such as the user of usernames and
passwords and anti-virus software.
Any removable media should be checked to ensure that the integrity of the ICT systems are not
compromised.
Breaches of ICT code of conducts should be dealt with inline with various laws and company
procedures.
13. Software and hardware
Software –The choice of software will depend on the system being implemented
to ensure that the desired output can be produced.
What software packages are there?
Hardware – Depend on the type of processing and output intended, storage
space and processing power – key aspects. Storage space and processing power
are two of the key aspects that will be taken into account when making choices
about the hardware that is chosen. Specialist output devices such as color laser
printers may also need to be taken into account when looking at the task that
the ICT system is performing.
What are the main components of hardware required?
14. Identify and define the Purpose of each..
Identify and know the purpose and characteristics of the main hardware
components of an ICT system.
Input devices..
Processors e.g. CPU
Output devices..
Ports and cables..
Storage devices..
15. Main components and hardware..
Input devices.. Keyboard, mouse, scanner, barcode readers,…
Processors e.g. CPU
Output devices.. Printer, speaker monitor/screen
Ports and cables.. Parallel, serial, universal serial bus (USB)
Storage devices.. Hard drive, CD, DVD, memory sticks..
16. Information
The final output is the information produced. Information is data that has been processed into something meaningful.
