3. Tyjuan (Keith) McKee
• Obtained a degree in Visual and Performing Arts
from Alabama State University.
• Was part of the theater department at ASU.
• Wardrobe Stylist for 10 years
• Freelance Designer for 4 years
4. What do you feel are the most important
skills to have for managing your staff?
• “Being human first but also understanding that
this is a business and no decision is a personal
one.” -Keith McKee
5. What do you find most satisfying in your
position, when managing your staff?
• “The internal growth and fulfillment. I just want to
set my people up for their ‘what’s next’ or their
next level.”-Keith McKee
6. What is most challenging
when managing staff?
• “Keeping everyone’s focus the same at all
times.”- Keith McKee
7. What is your method of evaluating
your staff’s performance?
• “I watch their area, such as growth and
development. If their not growing at the pace of
other areas we identify what is causing the lack
and discuss it, looking at possible opportunities
for growth. And not looking at it like they’re being
reprimanded but being helpful.”-Keith McKee
8. What qualities do you believe
are essential in your personnel?
• “All I need is an open mind and willing spirit and
if they have those they are definitely trainable.
With me, the less they know the more I can
develop.” -Keith McKee
9. How do you motivate your staff? How do
you encourage your staff to value your
business?
• “Just simply remind them to take one step at a
time. Breathe, plant, and plow is my
philosophy and the end result will outweigh
the now. I always express that even though I
started the brand, it’s OUR brand and it’s a
reflection of US. Not just me. What I’ve learned
is people respond better when they not only
feel that they have a voice but their voice is
being heard.”- Keith McKee
10. Lessons Learned
• I learned from Keith that with passion and
determination you can take what would have
been a one time event for your birthday, and turn
it into a company! I learned that you can use
your passions to help people grow both
personally and within their careers. Respecting
your staff is very important and making them feel
that they are apart of the bigger picture is
essential to success.
11. My Ability
• I feel like I have a great eye for detail and am very
passionate about the things that I love just as
Keith is passionate about his brand. I believe that
I have the leadership and organizational skills that
it would take to be the owner of this type of
company. Currently I lack much of the experience
and the education to properly run a company like
this. Also I am more interested in the music and
film parts of the industry therefore I would start a
company working with musicians rather than
models.
