1. 2. How does your media product represent particular
social groups?
2. I believe my magazine represents teenagers to young adults mostly to the indie/pop groups but
also a slight mixture. I think I have represented them in a nice way, my features show they are
excited for summer and enjoy music and fashion. This challenges the dominant stereo-typical view
of them as it does not fit with the ideology and way that many people see them as the parts of the
magazine that I have created do not mention many of the bad things that are associated with
them such as drink and drugs.
3. My central image along with the other image in my magazine are light as happy, not the type of
images that would be explained by many members of the public. The model I used in my images to
represent the social groups. The posture of hands in his pockets on my contents page appears to
represent that of many teenagers just as many music magazines do. The costume and hair of my
model clearly represents that of a teenager but with no hoodie or tracksuit bottoms it isn’t a bad
one. Although there is nothing extreme about his look so he would not show any stereo typical
looks.
4. I made the chose to represent these social groups in this way to appeal to my target audience as
they are mostly this group. I felt this would make the magazine sell as my target audience would
not read something that makes them appear bad. The language I used was a mixture of informal
and formal. If I had used all informal language them the magazine may have appeared too lazy but
if it was all formal it would not have appealed to my target audience. I also didn’t why many
shortened words such as “soz”; I felt that these would stereo-type my audience and magazine.
