2. Choosing the right mode of address is the key element of
making the writing element of the magazine both suitable and
appealing to the reader.
In my magazine amplified indie I have addressed my audience
on the level of a knowledgeable friend to ensure the formal
and casual element of the magazine I wont to establish is
gained. I have done this as my target audience is 16-mid 20’s a
time of socialising and a period of fun before the responsibility
therefore the best way to address my audience would be on
this level, a friend and informally.
Cover lines reinforce my mode of address further: indies “in”
fashion, Summers hottest and Music and the fashion suggest
the magazines offers more than just music and show how the
magazine is not a serious take on music, this appeals to my
audience as it is casual and on a level they wish to understand
and take in the magazines content- a informal and friend like
manor.
3. The mode of address I chose allows a bond to be made
between both the reader and the magazine article elements
like “our readers” and “we give you” addresses the reader on
a more personal level. Allowing the reader to be addressed in
this ways makes the audience feel they are being spoken to
gaining this friend to friend basis wanted by my target
audience creating a bond between them.
These three elements: cover lines, friend to friend basis and a
personal level of communication allow the audience to bond
with the magazine and is away of attracting the reader into its
content.
4. Colour is also another important element I have used to attract my
audience . The magazine is based around a colour scheme of
black/red/white, I chose these colours as they appeal to a female
audience and represent the genre of music the magazine is about
therefore expressing the two key features of my target audience : gender
and interest.
I choose to use contrasting colours that stand out boldly on my page to
draw readers in as I feel they will wont something eye catching and bright
rather than harmonious and dull colours. My target audience is also aged
16-mid 20’s so therefore I didn't want colours you would find in older
magazines or colours that represented a younger age group meaning my
magazine would seem unsuitable to the audience.
Similarly the colours chosen allow the writing to stand put and create a
strong brand identity allowing my audience to clearly read the writing but
also instantly recognise Amplified Indie something important for the
audience to do.
5. Design is perhaps the most thought out element of my
magazine and perhaps the most important in ensuring the
magazine represents the correct age range.
All the fonts I have used are a mix of both informal and formal
as I felt this was most suitable for my age of audience. I also
wanted there to be a formal element to my magazine to
address the older end of my target age but also as I didn’t
want the font to be to much like bubble writing that it
appeared childish and unsuitable to my audience. I also felt
this combination represented the music genre aimed towards.
In my double page spread I also used multiple entry points to
attract the audience and make the magazine more varied
and appealing to all people in my audience.
Another design element key to attracting my audience was my
USP both fashion and free downloads. The free downloads
appeal to a audience with little money to spend on extra
music and give a bonus to buying my magazine. The fashion
element gives more to my magazine than competitors and
addresses the female element of my audience. Both of these
give bonuses to my magazine attracting the audience to buy
it.
6. Images also play a role in attracting the right and desired audience in this
case females, indie music lovers and 16-mid 20 year olds. In the next few
slides a will shoe examples of how the chosen images in my magazine will
attract my audience.
The left image is a representation of my
female element the picture connotes sexy
and in control due to the camera eye
contact. This attracts the audience as it gives
them something to aspire to and represents
there lifestyle.
The image to the right represents my age group
by using models that are from the younger end of
my age range. The mise-en-scene- costume
represents the genre with them wearing typical
indie associated fashion and the guitar makes it
clear the magazine is about music attracting the
audience.
7. The left image uses again further costume
representing the genre of indie and fashion
associated with this attracting the audience as they
will want these indie looks. The pose however
suggests innocence with the lose eye contact and
attention taken from the lense to elsewhere, this
represents the younger end of the audience.
The image to the right represents dedication to
music and shows the artists in action it is used to
connote commitment to the audience yet still
attract them through age and costume. Similarly
the low levels of make-up suggest further
innocence and take highlight away from being
something else older than your age.
