1. 6. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process
of constructing this product?
By Louis Piper
2. Research
• For our pre-production work we used a range of different forms of technology,
one example being "Blogger". The whole group used "Blogger" so that we could
record and upload all our research and planning. In addition to "Blogger" we used
the worldwide search engine "Google" to research the supernatural horror genre
and films that come under it to make "The Remembering" as accurate and scary
as possible.
• We additionally used "Google" to research the cinematography used in
supernatural horror films and to use the lighting, sound and locations in our
script, which was designed and written on Celtx, to create an accurate
representation of a supernatural horror and to professionally make "The
Remembering" scary.
3. Researching the style
• When analyzing different films I used "Google" to search for the films
and then viewed them on "Netflix" and took photos of the first
15minutes so that I could record my analysis and photos and then
published my work onto "Blogger".
• To research the common styles of supernatural horror films I
reviewed similar films that come under the genre and sub-genre
analyzing the first 15minutes of one horror film and the title
sequence of another. This research helped me identify styles and an
idea on how to produce a successful supernatural horror film and
how to edit it to make it scarier. When researching I was able to note
the common elements of a supernatural horror film; such as jump-
scares, crucifixes and ghosts, so that when it came to producing our
film we were able to incorporate these elements into our film to
make it as scary and successful as possible and comparable to the
popular films I studied.
4. Planning
• In terms of the script, the software Celtx is a professional software that prints the
script in an easy-to-read font and a director's style to the print containing the
dialogue for the film and the technical side to the filming of our film and the edits
for each shot. Celtx helped us film our film quickly and made the film more
accurate to the script and more effective on screen.
• Celtx made planning our film easier as we were able to include all the important
aspects of our film; dialogue, action and cinematography onto an easy-to-read
script so that when it came to applying the theory work behind our film onto the
camera, our representation would be accurate and our film would be produced
the way we intended and could be successful.
5. Title Sequence
• The websites I used for my research were "Art of The Title" which helped me find
a title sequence and analyze it in depth through each frame of the sequence. To
present my research I used a basic document on Microsoft Word pasting
screenshots of the sequence and then my in-depth analysis before publishing it
onto "Blogger".
• Art of The Title additionally helped in making our film successful as it helped
point out the common themes in a horror films; the themes of music and images.
My research on these themes helped create a clear presentation of a
supernatural horror film and boosted the film’s fright factor leading onto its
success.
6. Production
• When filming we used a Camera 700D to record the shots as well as using a Zoom H1
sound recorders to record our voices for the voiceover news report. When filming we
also used a tripod to enable us to film from the perfect angle and range between levels
if necessary. The 700D camera is very professional and improved our overall film as the
shots it filmed were clearer and created a professional edge to our film.
• As soon as we finished filming we imported our shots onto the computer and saved
them onto a file so that we can find them when it came to editing. The only negative
was that sometimes the camera would take longer to focus on some shots more than
others meaning filming, at some parts, took longer than it needed to.
• To add a supernatural and paranormal effect onto our film we used a software app
called Corel video studio pro x8 to create a ghostly, unsettling feel to the flashback and
downloaded our music from "Freesound" where the music wasn't copyrighted and was
perfect for "The Remembering" and emphasized its fright factor. These aspects of
technology all worked in making our film success and as frightening as it was intended
to be, music and images are the basic content of a frightening horror film and by
carefully collaborating them together we produced a frightening supernatural horror
film that scared our audience.
7. Post-Production
• After filming came the editing of the film and combining all the shots, edits, recordings
and music all together to produce "The Remembering" and make it a successfully scary
horror. To edit the film we used the software "Adobe- Premiere Pro" which was
excellent and very useful which allowed us to import all the shots and music we wanted
as well as editing the whole 3 minutes adding spooky twists and suspense and gripping
edits to improve our film and turn the shots into a great film. Furthermore "Adobe-
Premiere Pro" was easy to use and didn't take us long before we were able to export
our final cut and view our film.
• After the film was finished I was then able to answer the 7 evaluation questions which I
answered through different styles of computer software such as Microsoft Word and
PowerPoint, Prezi and imported my animated questions through Slide Share so that I
could uploaded them onto "Blogger“ to be viewed. These different styles of software
were easy to use and helped me present my evaluation professionally as well as
allowing me to range between different styles to present my work.
