2. MASKING
• MASKING WAS A NECESSARY PROCEDURE WHEN EDITING OUR FILM.
• We had to re-cast last minute due to an illness in Tyler Beever, who was going to originally
be the role of Luke.
• We chose Theo Clarke instead.
• However, we had already filmed the cinema shots previous to this, where Theo is in the
background playing the role of a minor character – a student at the cinema on a Valentines
date.
• We didn’t have time to re-film the cinema shots as we were bound by time restrictions.
• So, instead, we used the “masking” effect on Premier Pro to try and fade out Theo’s face
and darken the background.
• As we had never used masking before, it was difficult at first to adjust to using it effectively.
• We didn’t want to mask the shot too much that the focus on Harriet and Isaac was
distracted.

4. COLOUR CORRECTION
• We found it difficult to find the perfect colour correction for our shots.
• We used a cinematic effect to make the shots more defined, saturated and brighter.
• However, some of the shots were much too warm-toned and meant the shots looked
yellowish.
• We knew this opposed the typical conventions of shots in romantic comedies as they are
always bright and well-lit with a clear focus.
• Unfortunately, when we used colour correction on the warm-toned shots, we noticed how
the blue hue we had to use to counteract, was probably too strong and didn’t present the
appearance of natural lighting.
• We lowered the blue colour and found the shots were still too warm-toned but no colours
would help this. We attempted as best as we could to improve the colour correction on the
shots.
• They improved the shots but we were unhappy with the final outcome as they were still too
warm toned and we didn’t have enough time, under the limit, to spend any more time on it.

6. VOICEOVER, MUSIC, DIALOGUE
• We found it difficult to balance the non-diegetic and diegetic sounds along with the
music so everything could be heard.
• It was a challenge because the music was clear and loud, however we found the
voiceovers and some of the diegetic sounds of the film were too quiet and under
emphasised.
• We used the audio mixers to decrease the music, and make the voiceovers and
diegetic sounds as loud as we possibly could by balancing them correctly.

8. TRANSITIONS BETWEEN FILMS
Too many jump cuts made the film less fluid and reduced the understanding of the narrative.
We added the shots outside of the cinema and inside the cinema to make the film more clear.
