The document discusses how the media product represents particular social groups. It notes that the magazine represents its target audience through the clothes and images used, which are similar to what the target audience typically wears. However, the document acknowledges that this could be seen as stereotypical since people with different styles may also be interested in the music and bands. The photos in the magazine feature people dressed in a rock/punk style consistent with the genre. While this presents a stereotypical image, such images attract the target audience. Social groups related to the magazine's genre are often portrayed through stereotypes like emo, goth and scene, though not all who dress that way identify as such.
2. For the cover of my magazine, I had to
make sure that she was dressed an
posed in a way that would go with the
whole genre of my magazine, and so
that she didn’t look out of place on the
front cover. I wanted her to look like a
lead singer of a band, and I asked her to
dress in a rock/punky way to go along
with the rock/metal genre of the
magazine.

3. TARGET AUDIENCE
My product represents it’s target audience in the colours and images used
throughout the magazine. The clothes that the models and people wear
within the magazine are most likely similar to the clothes that the target
audience wear. Although this may be considered as stereotypical as there
are also people that would read this magazine and be interested in the
music and bands talked about inside that wouldn’t be seen wearing
anything like that… even someone who is classified as a ‘girly girl’ can be
interested in this sort of magazine.
4. MISE-EN-SCENE
In the pictures that I have used for my magazine, I made sure
that the anyone I asked to take pictures of were dressed up in
a rock/punky way to go along with the genre of the magazine.
Although this may be the stereotypical image of the target
audience, the images that are used in many magazines like this
are part of what attracts the target audience.

C O M M O N I D E A S O F YO U R S O C I A L G R O U P ?
Social groups are often portrayed as a stereotype, in the case of my magazine
the most common stereotypes would be Emo, Goth and Scene. This is
because of the way rock/metal magazines are laid out, and how rock/metal
bands are portrayed. In my magazine I represent my social group in a way that
the magazine reaches the target audience I am aiming for. For example, I made
sure that the person I was taking a picture of for my front cover was dressed in
a rocky way, and this dress style sometimes gets classified as Emo, or even
Goth when in actual fact not everyone who wears that sort of clothing would
put themselves in any of those stereotypes.
