5. The humanism is taken from the word ‘Humaniora’ meaning
study of human body and surrounding nature. The word
Humanities is also derived from it.
Humanism is a psychological thought that places prime
importance on the welfare of human beings.
It emphasises the importance of the inner world of human
beings and places the individual’s thoughts, feelings, and
emotions at the fore-front of all human developments.
6. Humanistic school is a modern (contemporary)
school of psychology.
Human beings are considered most important.

Self theory, by Carl Rogers
12. It is meaningful and significant.
It posses a quality of personal involvement.
It stimulates the feelings and cognitive
aspects of personality.
Main concern of this approach is student’s
growth and self actualization.
It respects students feeling and aspirations.
It rejects whatever pupils feel bad and
encourages friendship and cooperation.
13. It doesn’t favour test dominated approaches,
rejects strict and rigorous approaches.
Empathetic understanding of learners and
active interaction are given importance.
Development of human values, sensitivity to
human emotion, self-evaluating and self-
monitoring.
14. Its concepts are too vague.
Critics claim that humanistic psychology is
not a true science because it involves too
much common sense and not enough
objectivity.
Lack of clear cut definition of the aims of
teaching.
15. High dependence upon the capabilities of the
teacher.
Inadequate focus on high academic
achievements.
Over emphasis on emotional expression.
Requirement of high teacher’s competency.
