• The first existing game I will be comparing to mine is FIFA 18. FIFA 18 is the biggest sports game in the world currently,
with over 1.6 million worldwide players.
• The reason I am comparing FIFA 18 to my game is because they’re both football games and most importantly back and
forth in terms of gameplay.
• FIFA 18 gameplay is located in several different football stadiums. I also have the intention of applying a football stadium
in my game. Although FIFA 18 will be similar my to game, It has lots of features that I physically will not be able to apply
to my video game. This includes replays of goals and cut scenes of individual players and fans. In comparison, mine will
be a very basic 2D design and the ball will be placed straight back in the center of the field after every goal.
• FIFA 18 can be played in several different camera angels. Most camera angels are in 3rd person, while some are in 1st
person if you decide to play the Journey on career mode. But because my game only has one option, it will be played in
3rd person perspective.
• Both FIFA 18 and my game will include a soundtrack. FIFA 18 has a playlist with over 20 songs to enjoy whilst you’re in
the options menu, whilst I will hopefully be able to include 2-3 songs in mine through the use of Beep Box.
• Finally, FIFA 18 persuades it’s audience mostly through the gameplay, as it is currently at a stage where some players
look completely identical through player motion. Hopefully when making my game I can apply pixel art to my players
that makes it easy enough for my audience to realize how it is that they’re using. If it works, this will also be a feature I
advertise to influence my audience.
3. Existing Product
• The next game I will be comparing is Pro Evolution Soccer 2018. This game is very similar to FIFA 18 and the game I will be making
myself.
• Pro Evolution Soccer has slowly dropped down the pecking order over the past 10 years due to one major factor, copyrights. They are
well known to include, quite frankly some very amusing replacement names for the teams they couldn’t receive licensing over. An
example being ‘London FC’ in replacement for Chelsea. However, many gamers still play Pro Evolution as it has an estimated 700,000
players users.
• Once again, Pro Evolutions in-game experience is located in each respected football stadiums. These football stadiums include Anfield,
The Emirates and The Nou Camp. Hopefully I might be able to replicate forms of these stadiums in my own game.
• Pro Evolution gameplay includes lots of bright and vibrant colors. I believe they have included these colors because it’s a very fiesta like
game, as it has the licensing to the Brazilian league and teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid. I would like to approach my color
scheme very similar to pro evolution as It will hopefully include several Brazilian players that you can play with in-game.
• Pro Evolution also use classic soundtracks to enjoy whilst you’re in the options menu, such as Linkin Park and Bruno Mars. Once you’re
in-game, you will be accompanied by two commentators, the cheering of the fans and interaction of players! These sounds are very
important because they increase the intensity and excitement. I will also be including the jeering of fans on my game. However, I will
not be able to use commentary because my game is too back and forth to go in an great depth of commentary!
• It is quite clear that Pro Evolution is in the shadow of FIFA 18, so they usually persuade us gamers to purchase the game through
advertising features that they have licensing to that FIFA don’t. This includes Champions League and Europa League football and access
to teams such as Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona as advertised on the cover of their game.
4. Existing Product
• The next game I will be comparing is Madden 18. Madden 18 is the latest American football game and is also produced by Electronic
Arts, just like FIFA 18. Although Madden isn’t the same sport as my game, it includes lots of features that are similar or would be worth
including in my own game.
• As they were in the previous two slides. The game is located in each NFL stadium across America. However, several of these stadiums
can also be used as soccer stadiums as they are also used on FIFA 18. Every team on Madden 18 has their official stadium placed on the
game. The most impressive location is certainly the MetLife Stadium for myself, located in New York. However, the stadium I use on my
game won’t replicate any official stadium as I haven’t got the licensing to do so.
• Madden 18 can be played from several different camera angels in 3rd person, you simply just go to settings to change which angle you
play your game in. My game will also be played in 3rd person perspective and will look very similar to Madden gameplay.
• I believe the most audio and sound effects are used throughout Madden 18 in comparison to any other game I have used in this
PowerPoint. Once again, Madden 18 has it’s own soundtrack, commentators and cheering fans, but Madden also includes these songs
throughout your in-game experience as you can hear it echo throughout the stadium between each quarter. It also applies
conversations between referees when making decisions which gives fans a great insight on the game and gives that extra sense of
realism.
• Each year American football is developing so much, which also helps Madden to develop. These new features will then be applied in
the cover and gameplay trailers for each new Madden game that is released. These new features excite the public and will encourage
them to buy the game, just like I did myself.

• The final game I will be comparing is VR Ping Pong, which is a virtually reality game of Ping Pong. The reason I
decided to chose this game is because it has a very basic design and layout, which is the exact intention I have
for my game. This game also runs at a very quick pace due to it being a ping pong game. Although my game
isn’t actually ping pong, it will certainly have an aspect of it within my game due to it being back and forth,
just like a game of ping pong.
• Each environment is styled as a stadium with a fully animated audience, creating an immersive playing
environment. The stadium design is very basic, which will look very similar to my own game as I don’t want to
consume too much time working on the architecture of my game.
• VR Ping Pong is presented in 1st person as it is a virtual reality game, however in comparison mine is
presented in 3rd person due to my lack of experience using pixel art.
• VR Ping pong does NOT unfortunatley include a soundtrack, which I personally believe is quite disappointing
because it would increase your adrenaline whilst playing. For this reason I will still be including music in my
game, but I will have to ensure it fits in well with the pace of my game.
• I do not believe any form of persuasion is used throughout the front cover as it is a very basic design, but after
taking some thorough research I noticed that in the PlayStation description it states “VR Ping Pong features
several addictive gameplay modes allowing players to experience the thrill of playing Table Tennis using
PlayStation VR” which is a great form of persuasion.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
• Each game I explored was sports related (Two Football, one American Football and one Ping
Pong) which is very much expected considering my game also comes under sports.
• Two of the games I explored were both made by Electronic Arts, which could suggest that my
game might have indications of EA features included.
• Finally, each game I analysed is used mostly across PlayStation and Xbox, not PC. This could
suggest my game might be more appropriate for a gaming console, not PC?
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
• I will include lots of my research in my final production. I believe the most important feature I will include
is lots of audio. I would like to apply a soundtrack – just like FIFA and Madden, as well as sound effects
when a goal is scored.
• I will also include an options menu where you can select what team you would like to play as, which is
included in every game I researched.
• Finally I would like to apply colours to my cover that indicate what my game includes, just like Pro
Evolution.
8. Interview 1
My initial plan is to create a 1 V 1 football game between two ex-footballers that I will be creating
on Photoshop. Do you think this is a good idea and why?
I believe it is a good idea as you already have a strong passion for football so I will be able to
make my game very accurate as I already lots of sports knowledge
What genre of music do you believe will go well with a football game and why?
An instrument of some sort as it will be able to match the speed and pace that your game is
working at. Drums in particular as it has a very fast pace to it.
Currently each game is played for 1 minute. Do you think this is an acceptable amount of time I
should I make it longer/shorter?
If your game is played at a fast pace then 1 minute should be an acceptable amount of time to
play your game. This is because lots can happen and you don’t want to be concentrating for too
long.
9. Interview 1
• This clearly states that my game will be influencing an audience who enjoys
watching / playing football and sports in general. It also implies that my game will
influence a wide range of ages as lots of different people enjoy rock music.
• My product will apply to sports fans as it is a simple designed football game with
the same concept and rules as a regular football game. They will also be influenced
to play my game when they recognise that my game will include previous ex-
football stars.
• It will also apply to anyone who also enjoys listening to rock music as the drums
and guitars will increase the pace and intensity of the game, if I was to include this
genre of music suggested by Randall.
10. Interview 2
My initial plan is to create a 1 V 1 football game between two ex-footballers that I will be creating
on Photoshop. Do you think this is a good idea?
Yes I think this will be a good idea. The reason I think this is a good idea is because people will
be able to choose from their favourite ex footballers if your designs turn out successful.
What genre of music do you believe will go well with a football game?
I think you should add some dance music to your game. But make sure it includes a good bass
drop so that it will hopefully drop at the same time as you score.
Currently each game is played for 1 minute. Do you think this is an acceptable amount of time I
should I make it longer/shorter?
I also agree on the duration of time that your games will be played. The reason for this is
because it keeps it nice and simple because you don’t want it to drag on for too long
11. Interview 2
• This interview also implies that my game will be influenced towards sports fans as
Aaron took great credit in telling me that including previous football stars will
influence people to play the game. I believe this is a reliable source as Aaron is a
football fan himself.
• However, the game might be influenced more towards a younger audience such as
15-24, as Aaron suggested I apply dance music to my game which is most popular
amongst these ages, which will allow them to enjoy the game even more.
