2. My first concept for the production was to create a review page, directly
aimed at retro video games. The first thing I looked into was the font for the
title of the page, although whilst I first chose to use Zrnic (the same font
used for the PlayStation logo), I eventually decided on using VCR OSD Mono,
which although looks fairly generic, it appear to be more suitable for a
retro-style review page. The font for the rest of the copy didn’t need to be
anything unique, but they do range from a bold font for the games’ titles, to
a light font for the descriptions for each game. Alongside all of the copy,
there is also box art for each of the games, as well as screenshots to help
viewers digest what occurs in each game., a general convention for video
game zines.
3. This is how the final concept for the
first page resulted. Numerous changes
and additions I made to the final
concept was a different background – I
took a high resolution photo of the
Seaside Hill landscape (Seaside Hill
being a level in Sonic Heroes) and
blended it underneath a gradient
pattern of the colours red, blue, and
yellow that I layered on top of it, to
match the colour scheme of Sonic
Heroes.
Another change that was made was
adding a stroke to the heading of the
page, as well as a sharp-textured drop
shadow behind it to ensure it catches
the eye of the reader easily enough.
Along with the title, the games’s box
arts also have drop shadows, this time
more faded in order to help the image
pop out a lot better – as well as
erasing all of the backgrounds for each
cover, especially noticeable on Crash
Bandicoot.
4. The second concept page I produced was based on the interview
article I am intending to create for the final piece. The font used was
GameCuben (the same font used for the Nintendo GameCube
console). The background is taken from a screenshot of Battlefield
2042, as well as the colour scheme once again, and the screenshots
dotted around the double page spread are intent to be used as
example screenshots for what will describe the article that will be
written – the games include Battlefield 1, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,
WWE 2K22, and Saints Row 4. Additionally there is the logo for
ThisGenGaming, a YouTube channel who I plan on asking the
questions for my interview, and his niche in regards to his content
creation revolves around WWE games.
