Homework 3
1. Homework 3 - Planning/Test Shots
By Francesca Wenn and Tayla Debenham-Scott
2. This is a test shot of a long path in
an isolated location. This shot could
be used when the young girl is
running away from the unknown
male. This is a conventional shot for
a horror film as no one is around
and if something bad was to happen
no one would know.
This is a test shot of a park which is
an everyday location. We decided to
use this because it relates to the
target audience as they visit this
place often. This shot can be used
when the friends of the girl in the
film are waiting for the girl to arrive.
3. This is a shot of a graveyard from
outside the gate. This shot is
conventional for a horror film trailer as
the symbol of death is portrayed which
shows that this may be a theme within
the film. This is a conventional shot for
our horror film trailer as the theme of
death is unknown.
This is a shot of a overgrown path/alley
way. This shot will be used when the
girl is running away when fast pasted
editing is used. This shot will be more
conventional when filmed in a darker
light as you won’t be able to see what's
ahead. This is conventional as it creates
a sense of fear.
4. This is a shot of a single oak tree
surrounded by over grown bushes. This
would be good for when the girl within
our film trailer is running from the
unknown male and stops to take a
breathe. She can hold onto the tree
whilst trying to catch her breath. This is
conventional because no one else is
around and it makes the audience feel
scared as no one is there to save her.
This is a picture of a shed. This is
conventional for a horror film because its
old, spooky and a isolated. This can be
used as a hiding location for the
unknown male in the film spying on the
girl. This is a location which isn't visited
often, so he is less likely to be found out
which makes it scary for the audience as
no one knows he is there.
5. This is a test shot of a White Van. We
decided to use this vehicle as recently in
the news the white van has been
associated with snapping up young girls.
We are going to use this prop when the
male finds the young girl on her own and
takes her. This is conventional for a horror
film as children going missing makes the
audience feel a sense of fear.
This is a test shot of a black leather office
chair. This prop is going to be used in the
office of the unknown male where all the
pictures of the young girl as placed. This is
an appropriate prop as it spins so it can
move with the pan shot we have planned
for that scene.
6. This is a long shot of the hall way inside
the house of our chosen location. This
shot will be used when the young girl
runs back into the house after trying to
escape from her voicemail. What she
doesn’t know is that the male is still
watching her. The is conventional for a
horror film trailer as it doesn’t give away
much which keeps the audience in
suspense.
This is the location where the majority of
the horror film trailer will hopefully be
shot. We’ve chosen this location as it fits
in with our storyline. It is also
conventional for a horror film trailer as
its an everyday location which people are
familiar with which gives is a sense of
reality.
7. This is the location where the unknown
male will have his office full of pictures
of Abigail. We chose this location
because of the old furniture and dated
decor which relates to his personality of
being old. Before the filming the room
will be re organised to make it look more
like an office including the prop of the
office chair.
This is a picture of a rope which we are
going to use as a prop in our film. This
will be used when the male kidnaps the
girl into her van and then ties her up in
her office. The symbol of the rope shows
that she is trapped and there is no way of
her getting free. This is conventional for a
horror film as it shows the audience
something bad is going to happen.
8. This is a photo of the female who is
going to be playing the young girl in our
horror film. She is a happy 13 year old
girl called Abigail who love’s to go out
socialising with her friends. She is able
to relate to our target audience because
either they were that age once or they
are that age.
Having a young girl as a main character
is conventional for a horror film as they
are seen to the audience as being
innocent and when in danger very
vulnerable.
9. This is our other main character, the
unknown male figure who is spying on
the young girl Abigail. He has been
spying on this girl for years. From this
photo you can see that he is very
messed up, and isn't thinking straight
which puts the girl in a lot of danger.
Having a male character within a horror
film is conventional because they are
seen as dominant and powerful. So
when put in comparison to a vulnerable
young girl, the audience can assume
something bad is going to happen.
