ACHIEVEMENTS
• At a major New Zealand government department John was a member of the small team
implementing a data warehouse system. He was involved in carrying out a technical
investigation of a major design weakness and in devising a workable solution for this.
He was also involved in the technical testing of the application, and in working with the
end users to assist them with user acceptance testing.
John has now worked on data warehousing projects in New Zealand, Australia and the
UK.
On an Agile project for money market trading at a major New Zealand bank, John
developed user stories, supported the end users during the implementation phase, then
investigated and documented a major issue with late sales (trades booked while the
close of day processing was running) which arose as a result of shortcomings in a data
feed from an external source.
At the same major New Zealand bank John worked with business users and existing
data warehouse systems to merge the bank’s two brands. He was involved in ensuring
that the bank’s accounting software was migrated as expected. John had earlier been
involved in a bond issuance project where he was a ember of the team extracting data
from an existing data warehouse system in support of this major fundraising project.
• At a major New Zealand government department John worked with other members of a
consulting team to develop and document business analysis training for the permanent
staff.
• For a major Wellington retailer, John developed business requirements documents for
proposed changes to their stock management software. In some of these cases he then
wrote specifications for application changes, while in others he was able to developed
changed business procedures to meet the needs which had been identified.
At an Australian software developer John wrote the operations manual (roughly fifty
thousand words) for their major software product.
At a major Australian bank John developed and documented software implementation
policies and procedures.
At a major Australian telecommunications company John was one of a small team
responsible for data cleansing for a new customer billing system.
At a major UK manufacturer John carried out the investigation and design work for one
of the UK’s first data warehouse systems.
SCHEDULE OF EXPERIENCE
Senior Test Analyst – Z Energy Ltd
Scope of Role:
Involved in the development of software for managing the distribution of what is currently
Chevron NZ’s products as part of a takeover project of Chevron NZ Ltd by Z Energy. One
of the conditions of the proposed takeover is that Z Energy may not use Chevron’s
computer systems after they take ownership of the New Zealand business, and so a large
team of developers have been working to allow Chevron’s New Zealand business to be run
as a separate legal entity for the next few years.
John has had particular responsibility for the lubricants business, which is an entirely new
business are for Z Energy, and has required a new development using the JD Edwards
toolset.
3. Résumé for John Reid 3 of 6
Responsibilities:
• Test planning and execution (system, user acceptance)
John’s contract at Z Energy concluded on the 18th of December 2015.
Test lead – Ministry of Justice
Scope of Role:
Involved in the development and testing of a data warehouse for cases before the courts.
This uses an Oracle database and the Oracle data resynchronization tool, GoldenGate.
Responsibilities:
• Test planning (system, performance, user acceptance) using Ministry standard
documents
Technical investigation of an inherited design weakness and the design of a workable
solution for this
• Development of SQL scripts for these tests
• User support, defect management and rectification
This short term role has involved the development of a data warehouse which is kept
synchronized with the Ministry’s court management system (CMS). Existing SAS-based
reporting is to be pointed to the new database, and is expected to behave as it does at
present. John was involved in planning and carrying out the testing for this project. He also
worked with the developers to diagnose the major defect identified, and then to devise a
robust solution for the underlying design problem. This contract hasbeen extended once,
and concluded on the 14th of April 2015.
Test team lead/ Business Analyst – ANZ Bank
Scope of Role:
Involved in development & implementation of changes to a money market trading system
with Oracle and Windows components.
On earlier projects at the ANZ Bank was involved in the New Zealand Simplification project
(merging theANZ and National Bank brands and using a common IT platform) and loan
securitisation.
Responsibilities:
• Business requirements gathering
• Test planning (unit, integration, performance, user acceptance)
• User support, defect management and rectification
• Management & mentoring of other team members
John began work at theANZ Bank Group on the 1st of July 2010, initially on a three month
contract, since renewed several times. John initially worked on changes being made to the
CashMan application, which is used to track the cashflow in the Bank’s foreign currency
trading. In this role John was responsible for both planning and carrying out all of the work
required. In addition to generating all of the standard bank documentation John was
required to develop a number of complex SQL queries in this role.
He then worked on the redevelopment of a major treasury system used by the bank for the
securitisation of loans. In this role he has managed a team of two and was also responsible
for both the planning and for carrying out a substantial proportion of the testing. This role
has also involved extensive use of SQL, TOAD and Oracle 10.
4. Résumé for John Reid 4 of 6
He then worked on the New Zealand Simplification project (merging theANZ and National
Bank brands and using a common IT platform).
John’s part of this project was to work on the MIS systems used at the bank, in particular on
OFSA, the bank’s Oracle-based data collection system for its accounts. In this role he has
planned the tests and carried them out. These tests were concerned with showing that the
functionality was delivered as expected and that the data conversion process was both
generating valid data and converting all of the data from the source systems. He has also
been involved in the data cleansing work for this part of the project. He then worked on a
variety of reports and systems changes on the bank’s Oracle-based systems.
From July 2013 John was responsible for planning and carrying out the testing on what is a
major redevelopment of one of the ANZ’s wholesale banking systems in New Zealand, now
being adapted for use throughout theANZ Group. This project made extensive use of an
Oracle database (Oracle 10g) and used Java for the messaging feed (deals struck in the
course of each trading day were received through this feed). Both of these aspects of the
application were developed and tested as part of this project. The messaging feed had
performance goals which required addition testing, which John planned and carried out.
After the project went into a pilot phase in November 2013 John worked in a testing and
support role. In this phase of the project he investigated and developed SQL scripts based on
the business requirements as part of the new MS Test-based automated test system. These
were then incorporated into the test suite. The scripts John has written provide checks for
the validity of input data and verify that interest on loans and deposits is being calculated
accurately.
He has also worked with the business in the investigation of new requirements and minor
teething problems with the new application. His tasks here have involved the investigation
and specification for late trades (trading while the application is involved in end of day
processing – important for a 24 hours a day trading environment) and refinements to a
major balances report.
This project used the bank’s new Agile methodology. John was part of the development
planning, including carrying out most of the investigations to establish the business
processes for generating cashflows, and has been responsible for many updates to the
project documentation. His current contract concluded on the 30th ofApril 2014.

division of the bank.
Responsibilities:

development and management practices within Global Wholesale Financial Services.
While the general practice was very good, there was some scope for improvement in the
precautions taken to ensure that the existing procedures were always followed – not
least because in a large bank it is important to not only do the right thing, but to be seen
to do so.

five thousand words) and was involved in the planning of Year 2000 testing for the
bank’s existing software.
