After seeing the survey feedback, I had decided to merge some of the Ideas that I
have.
• Main Idea – my personal experiences (for the participatory audience)
• Positives and negatives (so they can learn how to use it sparingly)
• Showing what to do instead of social media (help people find their own hobbies)
• Voiceover clips (expository audience)

• From here I decided to look at documentaries such as Blue Planet and The Defiant Ones in order to see how the
storys are told and the format.
Blue planet allowed me to understand:
• How voiceovers work best
• The rise and fall in tension
• L and J cuts
• The Defiant Ones helped me understand:
• How to interview
• How to cut between time with clips

• Escapism
Social media allows people to escape from the world that they
are in if they feel sad or nervous.
• Connecting with friends
By talking to other people or friends, people can escape the
modern world with them. It has been shown that staying
connected online boosts mental health and can increase the
bonds within a relationship. If people aren't able to see each
other, like in lockdown, people can stay connected.
• Self learning/ education
People can also educate themselves on social media apps such
as YouTube. YouTube is better for visual learners and therefore
makes learning easier for them. Anything can be found for free
online, from a result of this, anyone can become anything they
want without the expenses of uni or college.
• Finding people like you and freedom of speech
Freedom of speech is important in the modern world and the use
of social media can help. Because of social media, people were
able to express their feelings towards the George Floyd death
and were able to make protests and change laws.

• FOMO
Fear of missing out is pretty much what it states. People (mostly
in youth) spend hours of their day scrolling on Instagram or
snapchat to see what their friends are doing incase they are
missing out. If they weren't invited, it can make them think
something is wrong with them for people not top want to be with
them.
• Fake bodies
People can select any image they want and manipulate it in any
way for them to look a certain way. This can make people think
that that is a normal body and feel disgusted at their own body.
• Addictive
Not to state the obvious, but social media is highly addictive.
Therefore, people can become more unsociable. In scenarios
where people may need to come out of their comfort zone, they
can hide on their phone and reduces social skills.
• Misguided
Social media is also misguided, people can see extremely happy
on the outside but are extremely depressed on the inside.

• Use apps
There are many apps available that can lock certain apps
on your phone. This can force you to cut down on social
media if it is needed. Although you can stop them while
locked, it adds that extra motivation.
• Go for a walk
After going for a walk many people report that they feel
better about themselves and helps with mental health.
• Try find a hobby
Finding a hobby in your spare time can help with cutting
down on social media. This is because finding joy in other
things means you have more things to distract yourself
with.
• Spend more physical time with others
By spending time with people off social media, it can lead
to having a bigger social life and meeting new people.
When doing a certain activity, you will meet people who
are doing the same thing as you and form a relationship.
By talking and meeting people outside you will also find
that your social skills will improve

• Start off with introduction to social media by showing a compilation of funny tik tocks and YouTube videos.
• My own voice over of how social media helped me escape from the world and then talking about how it allowed me
to stay connected with friends.
• A voiceover talking about how social media helps spread news and problems – showing news videos. Then from
this I can go into news reports of how social media is bad.
• Talk about how social media is bad for the youth and include statistics from news articles.
• Talk about how social media has been bad for me personally and go into how I managed to cut down on my usage.
• Clips of me doing my hobbies with voiceover talking about it helped me come back to “real life”.
The script relates well to the audience since it starts off with a happy momentum but slowly becomes serious and then goes back to
happy. This will allow me to capture the audience as they prefer to be entertained than taught. Therefore, by hooking them in first,
there will be a higher chance of keeping them watching throughout the
12. From my responses, I have decided to leave my ideas alone.
However I have learnt that for future presentations I need to use a loud
voice as most people couldn’t hear my points clearly.
Overall my rational turned out well and the research helped me
understand what to do my documentary about.
