Types of content - Initially, upon reviewing this
magazine front cover, it is most obvious to mention that not
much is present when regarding information and
knowledgeable info to the ‘Eureka’ brand; in recognition of
this, a severe lack of articles, reviews and adverts is
present, restricting myself from analysing this source’s
judgement of use in these particular regions, of which
contradicts the general stereotype around this field in the
media industry. However, there is a sustained amount of
photography accustomed in the central illustration,
portraying their affective use of photography, as
predominantly science relatable and recognisable aspects
are within; these images are an efficient method in
representing some background information (of which had
been previously eliminated), as for it is distinctive
characterises the genre of paper source. Furthermore, the
significance of these various amount of images include most
likely being gathered across the internet, and not being new
pieces from a studio/location of choice, this can be
visualized through aspects of pencil sketching's and or older
pieces; alongside this, some aspects may be originally
produced, as for the main denotation of a presumed
business man could have been simply edited across a
software (doubtlessly Photoshop with its imaginative
features to alter photographic captions).

Conventions – It is evident that the profound colour
green is portrayed throughout the whole of the main caption for
the front cover; in recognition of specifically the colour green, it
is regularly referred towards nature and the different forms it can
be under, and when contrasting this to the ’Eureka’ cover, this
links efficiently through science being all about natural causes in
the world. Additionally, a serif font is present throughout the
whole front cover, this creates connotations around
professionalism as well as the retro theme; regarding
professionalism in the cover, this links effectively across the
‘businessman’ in the main caption for the illustrations, whereas
with recognition to the retro theme, this holds a relationship
between the primarily pencil sketching's of the various amount
of images displayed. Also, in acknowledging the retro theme, it is
most evident that this magazine is targeted towards the older
generation of people within the interest of scientific elements,
portraying yet another reasoning behind the old-fashioned style
as its suiting and easily recognisable for its audience. Following,
the text to picture ratio holds a significant difference, with the
main caption being the predominant definition of the magazine
cover; this can infer that more of a focus towards the
photographs is endorsed, something that seems likely in the fact
that it effectively represents the style and genre of the magazine
- through the consistent implementation of stereotypical
scientific values.

Codes – It is most profound that the masthead ‘Eureka’
is denoted across the top half of the magazine cover, yet it is
important to understand why this has been executed. Initially,
when implementing this across the top half of the page, this
is a structural significance as all audiences will read from top
to bottom, and so it emphasises the brand before any sort of
information, meaning that this is the most memorable aspect
of the magazine through being the first; furthermore, the
relevance of the magazine name ‘Eureka’ also signifies the
representation of the genre of publication effectively, for
when regarding a scientific breakthrough, sometimes the
statement ‘Eureka’ is used to evoke excitement, from which
can only interpret the magazine has some resemblance to this
recognisable proclamation. Additionally, and now in
recognition of the bottom heading ‘The future face of
science’, which efficiently links across the main illustration of
a presumed ‘businessman’, this literature piece engages its
audience forcefully by evoking emotions around mystery and
an intriguing manner to read the extract; alongside this, the
use of alliteration is displayed across ‘future face’, this being
something that makes it both aesthetically and aurally
pleasing to determine, of which evidently captivates the
audience's attention.

Audience Appeal – It is most evident that the
audience profile for this specific magazine consists of the higher
income, scientific interest, and mid aged people categories of all
genders, but it's important to identify were this is emphasised and
targeted. Initially, and most obviously through the displayed images
within the main illustration, a large variety of recognisable features
in correlation to scientific attributes are present; this justifies an
interest to this genre within its audience effectively, as most objects
here that are implemented across the design will be easily perceived
and relatable towards their profession/avocation, otherwise it will
not be responsive and understandable - all of which helps refine its
audience to people within their interests. Following that, the design
of the whole cover is quite simplistic and organised, this immediately
filters its peers to the higher income and more professional readers;
this is primarily because it will be more recognisable in this category,
for genuinely the higher the income the more professional, simplistic
and organised factors are introduced, whereas in juxtaposing jobs of
lower incomes it will be less organised and more homely.
Additionally, also in acknowledging the design, there is no reference
towards celebrities and or entertainment factors, with a significant
reduction in headlines in comparison to other magazines, this also
instantaneously refers it more towards the higher income of people;
this is mainly because the working class seek enjoyment factors
more in a sense of escapism from their poorer backgrounds, of
which differs to people in the categories that resemble ‘Eureka’.

Types of content - Initially, upon reviewing this
magazine front cover, it is most obvious to mention that no reviews
and or adverts is present; it's also important to recognise that this is
a new blockbuster film (Joker) being the main illustration, which
challenges the customary views on film magazines, as it is
stereotypical to see outstanding reviews as an effect way to engage
and attract attention in its audiences. This being said, the target
audience consists of primarily young adults, from which reviews
and sophisticated information may be seen as unnecessary to
involve. Next, it is crucial to acknowledge that the main caption was
produced under a studio, regarding why the background consists of
a gradient solid dark tone; through the predominantly plain mise-
en-scene present, this effectively captivates the audience's
attention from the other aspect displayed across the cover, in doing
so it engages them and instantaneously allows them to recognise
the representation and understanding of the magazines purpose -
to promote and inform the local community of a new and upcoming
film. Following this, some articles are displayed in smaller vibrant
green to the side of the main caption, centre to the page, staying
‘inside secrets of Spiderman and stranger things’; it is noticeable to
consider that the use of bright green across specifically ‘Spiderman’
and ‘stranger things’ is used to emphasise their importance, these
are also two very popular and recognizable film/Netflix shows, and
so their inclusion can both evoke more of a reason to purchase the
publication and bring in wider audiences.

Conventions – Initially, it is evident that across the front cover
of the magazine, a lot of dark and bland colors are present with the design, these
predominantly consisting of a dark grey gradient; in recognition of the main
colors present, this effectively hints toward aspects within the film - possibly
being dark and corrupt, from which are aspects already inferred around the
character ‘the joker’ - whilst also helping define the joker character more, in his
self and clown visuals, all of which makes it much more of a focus point and
attention seeking in comparison to other parts of the publication which are
darker, including the main heading. Following this, it is crucial to emphasize the
photography displayed across the main caption center of the page, denoting 4
visuals of the same person, yet in different styles and positions; the use of these
images both help support the representation of the ‘Joker’ more, as the
stereotypical white face paint, red mouth, and green hair characteristics are
demonstrated throughout the illustration, whilst also hinting towards key
features to do within the film, this predominantly i shown through the emotions
amongst each face of which infers towards different scenes within the film, whilst
also evoking the struggles and ‘all new look’ amidst the image. Next, the text
and/to picture ratio differs significantly between the two engagement techniques
present, with the main caption ‘Joker’ being the predominant cover by taking the
majority of the front page, and the text being somewhat tiny in comparison,
these fulfil an obvious difference; through the enlarged text stating ‘Joker’, this
can infer that ‘Empire’ wants to emphasis the image illustration, whilst also
signifying that this holds great importance to the magazine that is present.
Juxtaposing against this, the much smaller text, that is displayed across the left
side center of the publication, creates connotations around being less important
in regards to this specific publishing, this can be supported around the fact that
this publishing is focusing around the ‘new clown crime thriller’; however, upon
further investigation, specifically towards the words ‘Spiderman’ and ‘Stranger
Things’, these are similarly styled and portrayed to the main caption, this can
evoke the feeling of slight importance throughout their audience, and is effective
in bringing in the wider congregation of people.

Codes – It is most profound that the masthead ‘Empire’
is denoted across the top half of the publications front cover,
yet it is important to consider the purpose of this. Initially,
when implementing this across the top half of the page, this is
a structural significance as all audiences will read from top to
bottom, and so it emphasizes the brand before any sort of
information, meaning that this is the most memorable aspect
of the magazine through being the first. Additionally, and
possibly most significant to the magazine, it holds a strong
correlation to the san serif font, this is distinctively evoked
through not incorporating fine edges and tips to the points of
each letter forming ‘Empire’; by implementing this across the
main title, this conveys the meaning of time and date that this
has been published, all of which influences the modern era
when considering the title ‘All new look’. Furthermore, when
regarding the phrase ‘World exclusive’, located across the
bottom half of the page above ‘Joker’, this use of a hyperbole
emulsifies its importance in the phrase; alongside this, it also
helps define its audience to take action across this publication
(purchasing it), this is predominantly because it's persuasive in
elaborating its unique difference to other forms of media
across the whole world, all f which is effective and more
engaging target its audience.

Audience Appeal – It is most evident that the
audience profile for this specific magazine consists of predominantly
mid - lower income audiences, people under the interest of
film/media, and most finally ranging between the ages of 16 - 40 year
old's, but it's important to identify where this is emphasized and
targeted in the publication. Initially, and most obviously through the
present captions and images amongst the illustration, a large variety
of recognizable features in correlation to the film industry are
displayed, all of which help justify an interest around this style within
its audience effectively; these are primarily justified across both
‘Spiderman’ and ‘Stranger things’ being stated across the front cover,
with these being two very identifiable and popular franchises, it
makes the magazine brand ‘Empire’ seem most clearly associated
within this genre in the media industry - not to forget that also the
‘Joker’ main title, alongside with some very dominant images, are
displayed. Additionally, the price range for the collection of ‘Empire’
publications ranges from around £4.00, this being something that is
most affordable for everybody to purchase across the market, yet
most primarily for mid - lower income audiences; furthermore in
emphasizing its appealing towards the less wealthy congregations, the
film industry can be fairly cheap when perceiving their sources in a
cinema - from £5.00 to roughly £10.00 dependent on the film length -
from which evidently makes it an effective and cheap manner for
these lower income audiences to reflect escapism in their generally
poorer backgrounds, sourcing hours of entertainment in managing
their more cost effective portrayals.
