2. Initial Reaction
Upon being introduced towards the man project/task in hand, I had positively approached this by initially
displaying my creative side in generating ideas around this vague brief, to produce a magazine around a
general topic of your interest.
. Originally, in having already been announced the brief, I had immediately associated this with some topics
which are recognisable around this type of media publication, these predominantly congregating around gaming
and photography; by representing a familiar subject in the magazine industry, this seemed most appropriate in
engaging my audience more and being able to easily associate this with a magazine. However, it is important to
recognise that not much originality is present when producing something around a topic that is frequently used;
with this being something significantly crucial to acknowledge in my magazine, I will therefore alter the
publications matter of thought, through still incorporating some aspect around photography, but primarily
focussing it around a more terminal matter of spotlight.
. Furthermore, when referring towards magazines, it seems most obvious that a very contrasting, bright and
aesthetically pleasing range of images/colours must be present within the overall design; these aspects all help
reflect engagement and grabs the attention of my audience, yet it is also similarly used across the market in
this category, all of which is effective yet not original and follows the general stereotype across the phrase AIDA
(Attention Interest Desire Action) in the media industry. In contrasting ideals, and acknowledging the previous
proclamations about design, I intend on contradicting this by portraying a more simplistic visual across my two
page spread, this will help evoke a unique style across the publication, but also emphasise its originality from
differing magazines of the similar genre.
In conclusion, the overall reaction towards the brief that had been proclaimed, in recognition to the magazine
project mentioned, had positively reached my expectations in achieving a range of ideas and creativity in my
project.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Across the selected range of images, and different techniques that are displayed thoroughly in the mood board
previously shown, there are some clear differences between some of the color presets/variations, techniques applied,
and format in the general layout/positioning of things; juxtaposing in similarities, there's and evident lack in identity
across the captions including people, and contrasts in colors displayed within the image.
Originally when recognizing differences, the color variations seem most obvious when acknowledging the different
moods in the portraits, these predominantly reflecting either a colorful, vibrant or greyscale, black and white image;
contrasting well, these help emphasize the difference whilst also being effective in there own matters within what is
being resembled in the illustration - one denoting a shard of a mirror being grasp within the subjects had, from which
evidently portrays the person behind the reflection, this is sufficient through evoking forms of mental health influences
as well as self deprivation in society. This may not be as effective within my photography or gaming magazine, yet the
other style would; reflecting much more dynamic and vigorous colors, this is more engaging and aesthetically
pleasing/attention seeking towards the eye of my audiences, captivating their interest and evidently being persuasive in
purchasing the publication - something that is incredibly profound and crucial across the media industry - whilst also
conforming towards theories in AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action).
Now in comparison with similarities, there is most evidently a lack of clear identity for the personals that are denoted
across some of the present images, these mainly consisting around either a silhouette outline, objects obstructing their
face, or dampened colors help define these unusual aspects; having been present in both greyscale and colorful
formats, they immediately create an intriguing factor throughout their audience, something that is very effective and
efficient in this industry and the displayed illustrations as they also evoke a strong sense of attention, this from which
develops a desire to find their integrity, further demonstrating an efficient use of general human characteristics and
persuasive techniques embedded within - also reflecting the use of AIDA. Upon thinking about use within my own
magazine, this could be very compelling and elicit to demonstrating a strong engagement, and so i would most likely
use this technique of silhouettes within my own work; moreover, it would be most beneficial to incorporated this
because it can arouse determination and a source of entertainment in my audience, something that is very necessary
when they would doubtlessly use the publication as an origin of escapism from their presumed poorer realities - this
being the target audience of lower to mid income generations.
7. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL
PLAN
SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Research, Initial
Response,
Audience
Research
. Begin the process of refining information regarding different aspects, features, and elements within magazines;
alongside this, also evoke the different promotional techniques which provoke an interest towards this publication, and
how they are/may be effective within my own work.
. Upon being introduced towards the main assignment, a range of various emotions and action responding to this newly
gathered sources had been aggravated; here a shall respond, in my initial reaction, to the briefing and general project
that has been acquainted towards myself and the others within my class.
. Additionally, it is also important to recognize the different audiences/styles that magazines specifically are more
addressed to; and so in acknowledging this, it seems most important to reflect my attention and an interest in this
category so early in the production line.
2 Production
Experiments,
Proposal,
Planning
. Producing suitable, yet efficient production experiments is the next process forward with in this assignment;
specifically, producing a quick magazine cover and feature page around a set audience and brief, this offers the
opportunity to experiment with a various amount of different tools and techniques, all of which will evidently help when
generating a sufficient project in this main task.
. Following, a proposal into the project and my ideas i want to reflect across the work, will be evoked across this source
of information covering a documentation form; this will effectively portray the different ideals and main genre
throughout my peers more, all of which makes the process much more understanding and clear when beginning the
production phases in the following next couple of weeks.
. Concluding this week's work comes the planning stage of the development line; holding a lot of importance and
significant information, here I will produce a range of techniques and/or features (including a focus point) towards
different components making up the product that i will produce for this assignment.
3 Production . This aspect cumulates across both the next two weeks, and consists of beginning the production of my end product to
the assignment, as part of the magazines project given at hand; this predominantly will be just me creating the final
product, however ,it is also crucial to acknowledge that these aspects will take a prolonged amount of time to achieve
to an outstanding level - something that is significantly important within my own goals across the whole course.
4 Production . Considering last weeks progress in the production phase, this will also consist of similar activities, regarding why this is
much shorter than previous summaries along the schedule being created.
5 Evaluation . And most finally, to finish off the whole production line around this assignment, i would complete an evaluation;
considering each element within the whole process, meaning each phase, this would help evoke the different meaning
around some aspects, but also reflect my work ethic and style throughout the course of making the publication.
