2. Process
- After my survey conclusions I started
sketching up ideas, this being the first
thing I ended up doing and liking.
- Because my Album cover/CD is
supposed to be space/galaxy themed I
thought I’d start with a simpler planet
design to hopefully spark some more
ideas
- I used a speckled brush/pen to create
the affect of stars in the background. I
added a like and dark side of the
planet buy putting a layer of white on
one side and black on the other and
then blending it out until it looked
more like highlights and shadows.
- I used a paint-like brush/pen for the
blending of darker and lighter tones
for the planet, making a quite realistic
look.
- I’ve done quite a lot of
practice drawing planets
as it’s a nice thing to
doodle
- I added a small highlight
to the already lighter side
with a few dots of white
blended out
3. Process
- This is the first big Idea I had, I don’t
know where I got the idea but I think
it’s quite a normal album cover thing to
do to cover your (or someone else's)
face with something such as pumpkins,
helmets, signs, etc. I have seen a few
popular albums like that.
- The galaxy-like drawing in the back was
my first attempted at drawing
something like/resembling a milky way
or something similar. For my first
attempt it’s okay, but I’ve already
improved my skills from it which is all
part of the process.
- I traced a picture of me wearing this
hoodie as I thought It would be cool if I
called the artist/band Dids because it’s
one of my nicknames but when the
results of the survey came through
everyone wanted something more silly
and random so I ditched that idea.
- I don’t like how cartoony it
looks, and how much the
black lines take away from
other things
- I did try and soften/blend
out the dark lines but it didn’t
end up looking much better if
better at all.
4. Process
- The first, “actually looks like an album
design” design, I came up with a
corelating album title and band/artist
name either for this experiment or
maybe for my final product.
- I added a few differently designed
planets to show diversity and not
have the focus only on one part of
the cover.
- I used the same dark and light,
shadow and highlights method as I
did in my first sketch, although a bit
dimmer and more realistic in this
example.
- You can see the new and improved
milky way/ galaxy design in the
background, more realistic, more
colour differences, more sparse but
also more filled in, still not extremely
accurate but you can see the
progress.
- I used a liquifying effect on
the lettering to give more
character
- I used the same font for
both titles, in a contrasting
white.
5. Process
- This design has only 2 planets and the
design on the small, almost burnt sienna
one is a little more similar to the pink one
than it is the other one like it in the first
proper album cover design
- This is my most recent quick idea,
Because I ended up liking the band/artist
name
“Your mother’s souvenirs” I decided to think
about what
Souvenirs/things I thought about when I heard
the word “souvenirs”
I could incorporate with my final product
design
- I added the same kind of highlight I added
to the planets, to the glass of the outside
of the snow globe
- I like this design a lot and I think that if I
work harder on it, it could become a really
good Album cover
- I used a wood effect on
the stand of the snow
globe
- It will be interesting if/when I
choose a colour for the
background of this drawing, which
will probably hold the titles. I
wonder what colour I will choose?
6. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I really like the planet designs I’ve come up with so hopefully I’ll be
able to use those
• I like the band/artist name “Your mother’s souvenirs” so unless I
come up with something a lot better soon, I will be using that.
• Hopefully I will be able to incorporate the design of actual souvenirs
into my product.
• I want to work on the milky way/galaxy design a little but I would
like to incorporate that also.
