A presentation of my planning for images to capture in my music magazine

2. Front Cover
Image 1 Front cover image of Joshua Hudson
Description of image Josh will be looking directly into the camera, with hands behind his back (in his back pockets)
Connotations/
Signifiers
The fact that he will be looking directly at the audience will build a connection between his story and the audience.
As he will be alone in this shot, and will be the centre of visual interest, it connotes his male dominance in the
magazine, which is essentially what is being portrayed throughout the magazine – and also conforms to what I have
researched in other magazines of this genre, which are usually male-dominated. It also indicates that he is the main
subject of the magazine – the cover story, and given that he is an unknown artist, will give him the opportunity to
increase his popularity. Lastly, the fact that his hands will be behind him shows that he is inviting the audience to
know his story and, more generally, Indie Rock music is inviting to all.
Shot/ Angle Medium close up, although I will also experiment with the different shots I use here, such as long shots, high angles,
low angles, side angles -with the actor looking directly into the camera and at side views.

Connotations/
Signifiers
Same as Image 1 – having his hands in his pockets will signify him appearing casual and friendly, and may
connote him not looking overly confident or egotistical as he is still an unknown singer striving to become
better known. In this sense, he will come across as humble and modest, which may attract more people to
buy the magazine.
Shot/ Angle High angle – this will make the actor appear rather powerful and dominant – suggesting that Indie Rock
music itself is a powerful genre of music.

Signifiers
This image will simply show that he is one of the contributors of my magazine – this is a small feature I
wanted to include on my contents page. He will be wearing smart casual clothing to also represent the
target audience, yet with his inviting smile and smart approach, indicate that he is part of a professional
product.

I will capture this upcoming band during mid-performance as they perform at an intimate gig. It will be the whole
band, and possibly some of the audience, too.
Connotations/
Signifiers
This image will indicate that they are still a young, upcoming band, performing to a small number of people. This is
exactly the sort of band that I want my magazine to promote.
Shot/ Angle Long shot, high angle – I may try to experiment with different shots and angles

the guitar illustrates how consumed he is in his work.
