Email marketing involves companies sending commercial electronic messages to groups of potential customers at a relatively low cost compared to other advertising. It can include images, video and other rich media formats. Email marketing is effective because it can reach a large percentage of internet users, generates higher response rates than direct mail, and has lower costs than other forms of communication. To be successful, email marketers must get permission from recipients, send relevant content on a regular basis, and use metrics like open and clickthrough rates to measure performance.
This document provides tips for building an email list and communicating with subscribers. It discusses the benefits of email marketing and emphasizes the importance of only emailing those who opt-in. It recommends using an email service provider to send CAN-SPAM compliant messages and outlines best practices for list building, email design, tracking results, and relationship building. The key takeaways are to focus on permission-based opt-ins, consistent quality content, and personalization to engage subscribers over time.

eMarketer Webinar: Best Practices for Email MarketingeMarketer
Join eMarketer Principal Analyst David Hallerman as he spotlights today’s best practices for email and offers tips for making it an integral part of overall marketing success.
The document provides guidance on designing effective email marketing campaigns and landing pages. Some key points include:
- Keep email content concise and focused on the benefits for the recipient. Include an unsubscribe link and comply with CAN-SPAM regulations.
- Landing pages should have a clear call to action at the top to capture visitors quickly. Test different page designs and content to optimize conversion rates.
- Use marketing automation to guide visitors through a sales funnel with targeted content at each stage, from initial lead generation to follow up messaging.
The document provides an overview and agenda for taking an email marketing program to the next level. It covers key topics like optimizing opt-in processes, using preference centers, segmenting email lists, improving deliverability, and best practices for subjects lines and welcome emails. Specific metrics and case studies are presented to support the importance of these strategies.
- An A/B test was conducted on email subject lines, with 100 recipients receiving Email A and 100 receiving Email B. Email A had a longer, more descriptive subject line while Email B had a shorter, more direct subject line.
- Email A had a higher open rate of 46.5% compared to 40.4% for Email B. However, the click-through rates were not statistically significantly different.
- The goal of the A/B test was to determine the most effective subject line style to use for future email campaigns. While Email A performed slightly better in open rates, the differences were not large enough to conclusively select one subject line type over the other based on the test.

Digital PR and email marketing are often misunderstood but share important similarities. Both can be accused of being spammy or misleading but effective practices involve getting proper consent, identifying the sender, and allowing easy unsubscription. A best practice is to use email to foster deeper customer relationships through targeted, frequent communications at different stages of the customer lifecycle rather than just one-time mass mailings. Costs for email marketing can be as low as $150 per month to reach thousands of recipients.

Here's the hard truth about marketing: your customers are better at it than you. Over the past decade, marketers perfected content creation, but as a result, things got a lot more competitive for businesses and a lot more crowded for buyers. So while creating content is still your best and cheapest strategy, it should no longer be your only strategy. That's where your customers come in. Learn more.
According to a recent report from Ernst & Young GmbH, both the number of funding rounds for startups in Germany and the overall value of those rounds hit record levels in the first six months of 2017. That tracks with what we’ve found in HubSpot research as well. We recently commissioned a survey of consumers living and/or working in the Berlin metro area, and found that the tech scene there is evolving quickly – 95 percent of Berliners see the number of technology jobs in the city growing, and 90 percent say Berlin also offers access to the technology and digital talent needed to grow a tech company. With Berlin offering the highest post-grad monthly salary for the European tech sector (3,112 euros per month, on average), it’s no surprise that the city has become a hub for fast-growing tech companies. And as of today, HubSpot is the latest to call the city home.

This document summarizes diversity data from HubSpot in 2016. It shows the breakdown of employees by gender, age, ethnicity, and management level across different departments. While diversity is still lacking, especially in technical roles and leadership, progress was made in 2016 with increases in female representation and hiring of underrepresented ethnic groups. Continued efforts are needed to create a more inclusive workforce.
The lack of visible female role models is pervasive in the tech industry, particularly on Wikipedia, where just under 17% of Wikipedia biographies were on women. That's why HubSpot wrote fourteen Wikipedia entries for remarkable women in tech to help inspire young women to reach positions at the highest levels of STEM.
