and I love teaching young minds
7. Bad Joke of the Day
• What do you call a flying policeman?
8. Today’s Agenda
• Polls and Discussion
Question
• Career Highlight: None.
Talking about classroom
success
9. Teacher Communication
• Please answer the phone if your
teacher calls or return the phone call
• Calls are important to relay vital
information
• Set up your voicemail
• If you screen your calls, save your
teachers’ numbers in your phone
10. Teacher Communication Cont‘d
• Webmails are also very important
• If a webmail is titled with the
words: progress, greetings, or
academic intervention, it means
they are high priority
• These webmails require effort
on your part
• They are sent for your benefit
so that you are successful and
can graduate on time
11. Let’s Hit the Polls
• There are 2 polls:
• Who is your criminal justice teacher?
• MOST IMPORTANT POLL (attendance purposes)
• Are you comfortable with the portfolios in your class?
• Feel free to share “why” in the answer pod
• Asynchronous learners: share through webmail
12. Let’s Hit the Polls Cont’d
• There are two open ended questions
• What do you think will be the most challenging
part of your criminal justice class? Quizzes,
discussion posts, portfolio assignments?
Something else? Why?
• What is one thing that you would like to learn in
your class?
13. Navigating your course
• Read all of the course
materials
• online textbook
• interactive presentation
(visual, audio, or both) along
with the study guide
• any other resource (some
lessons have embedded
websites and other
resources)
14. Quizzes
• Read all of the material
first and take good notes
to help you study
• Take your time and don’t
rush the quiz…they should
not be timed
• Eliminate wrong answers
first
15. Portfolios
• Read all of the instructions carefully
• Break in to chunks… some instructions are
very lengthy
• Do one step at a time until it’s finished
• ALWAYS double check your work and use
a spell/grammar checker tool
• This will simple step will save your grade
• If your word doc processor doesn’t have
one, look for a free one online
16. When in doubt: REACH OUT!!!
• Ask your teacher
• If you are provided with
examples, DO NOT CHEAT!
17. Tips for Success
• Stay on top of your planner
• If your planner needs adjusting, call the technical support
line…ask your teacher for their number
• Don’t wait until you are too far behind to start catching up
• Much better to work ahead then to get behind and try to
do several weeks worth of work the last month of the
semester
• It’s not recommended to submit blank docs or other
class’s work in a portfolio item to move on, but if you do,
COME BACK TO IT, they are heavily weighted
grades…hence why it takes work to complete them
Make a copy of this and save it in your own Drive folder.
