Existing Product
1. Type of image = The location of the
shoot was set inside a studio with a
black wallpaper behind. The angle was
set in the middle so that the main
character can be the star of the show
and be highlighted. The effects that
were used are none. With the black
wallpaper the character’s face is
highlighted and isolated which makes it
more appealing.
2. Lighting = The character’s face is only lit up on
one side and left dark on the other side. This
maybe because they want to show that this
character has a good side and a bad side.
3. Composition = The character and the
surrounding really tell us it’s horror themed.
4. Costume = The character is wearing a black
turtleneck as black fits the horror themed film.
5. Colours = The colours are red, black, white and
grey.
6. Fonts = The fonts used are big, clear and eery.
Audience appeal = for horror junkies they
would love it as the character made direct eye
contact to the readers eyes. It also said they are
40 new movies on the cover which intrigues the
reader to buy and read it.
Existing Product
1. Type of image = The location of the
photoshoot was set inside a dark studio with a
dark wallpaper behind. The angle of the
camera was quite low to include the neck and
the facial expression of the character. There
were no effects used. With the black wallpaper
the character’s face is highlighted and isolated
which makes it more appealing.
2. Lighting = the light was set from below so that
light ray will be pointed to the character’s face
from below.
3. Composition = The character and the
surrounding really tell us it’s horror themed.
4. Colours = black, red, white and grey.
5. Fonts = The fonts are big, clear and eery which
fits the theme and the genre of this magazine.
Audience appeal = The character’s facial
expression draws in audience to read the
magazine. There are also catchy phrases
that shows a glimpse of what the articles
are in the magazine.

background to highlight the colour of
the blood to be more vibrant. The
angle of the camera was set below the
character to add more dramatic effect
on the character.
2. Lighting = The lighting as a little bit dim towards
the character’s face to kind of give a dramatic and a
mysterious effect onto the character.
3. Composition = The composition of this magazine
cover is excellent as all element of horror are
included including blood and a weapon.
4. Costume = the costume used by the character is
possibly gloves and a fur jacket. This is maybe to
show to the audience that the film took place
somewhere cold.
5. Colours = colours used are black, red, white and
brown.
Audience appeal = interesting catchphrases such
as “the 20 worst movies ever” will draw in readers
to buy it. The character’s posture as well will
intrigue the readers on the story behind it.

– I’ll use suitable fonts and colours to decorate my cover
along with the main character and catchphrases.
