2. I attracted my audience by using bright colours like yellows and reds within the flashers and outlines, also bold fonts were very effective when initiating an aesthetical attraction. Also on the main image I made sure that my models were looking directly at the camera in order to address the reader directly and make them feel included in the magazine immediately. I feel that the price (£2-£3) that I would retail the magazine at will attract my target audience as they are of the ABC1 social class so that sort of money will be at their disposal when buying luxuries like a music magazine. A barcode has been incorporated into my cover to provide the price and issue number, this gives an element of professionalism. Finally I have used my editing skills to apply effects like a drop shadow and stroke which will stand out to the eye and entice them into looking at things like the footer which will encourage them to buy the magazine and read on.
3. Likes: ‘ Colour scheme looks really good’ ‘ Masthead makes it look Professional’ ‘ Good manipulation to create the shocker’ ‘ Catchy puff line’ ‘ Good adjustment of image levels’ Dislikes: ‘ Choice of shot could be more imaginative’ ‘ Clearer props other than the jackets and small earphones’
4. On the contents I have ensured that the magazine logo has been continued to make sure that the reader recognises the magazine and if the cover is successful makes them want to read the contents. The large ‘Contents’ title acts as an informative feature yet catches the eye with effects applied like a drop shadow and stroke. The unconventional yet interesting layout of the magazine, in particular the slanted main image with a surrounding frame, immediately catches the eye and adds an element of excitement which is continued in the text below. These unconventional elements break away from normal magazines and give the audience something different, consequently producing more sales and subscriptions. This is reinforced by the bright yellow, bold text in the subscription box and the quick response code.
5. Likes: ‘ Colour scheme looks really good’ ‘ Nice image manipulation’ ‘ Love the frame created for the main image’ ‘ Nice variety within camera angles’ ‘ Structured yet quirky’ ‘ Good adjustment of image levels’ ‘ Very eye catching’ Dislikes: ‘ Possibly too much empty space’ ‘ Image overlap is a little messy’
6. For the double page spread I have used a dynamic main image with a three dimensional element as one of the props are closer to the lens of the camera than the rest of the shot. This adds interest and excitement within the mind of the audience. I have used a bright yellow shocker with a red stroke effect which attracts the audience and directs them to the written article page. Pull quotes like ‘Smashin it’ have been used to personalise the magazine, this is done effectively as the last phonemes of the word ‘Smashing’ are not pronounced. This corresponds to the rebellious nature of indie. The logo has been continued, a large title has been used and a drop quote disrupts the predictable flow of the text which all combines to create a double page spread that attracts the target audience.
7. Likes: ‘ Like the way that you’ve continued the colour scheme and logo’ ‘ Nice image manipulation’ ‘ Creative shot’ ‘ Effective drop quote and pull quotes’ ‘ Articulate and sophisticated language’ Dislikes: ‘ Image levels adjusted too much maybe’ ‘ Not sure about the radial gradients’
