AUDIENCE CHARACTERISTICS
 I feel that the video meets the requirements for the audience because
it’s advertises an event which will interest them. The audience for the
project was mainly teenagers and adults because they would be able to
understand the questions. If it was to be aimed at children, the
questions would have needed to be a lot simpler for them to
understand. The questions that I put in, they might find difficult to
understand.
RESEARCH AND INITIAL PLANS
 For my research, I looked at ice skating videos because Ice skating was
going to be the original focus of the project. I also looked at interview
techniques, Christmas adverts and theme park adverts because the
focus changed to a Christmas theme park theme.
 For my initial plans, I made a mind map showing what different shots I
will use, locations, software, hardware and type of equipment that I will
be using.
PRE-PRODUCTION AND DESIGN
For my project, I made factual advertisement about Yorkshire Winter Wonderland. As my project developed, the plans changed for practical reasons.
For my planning I made a mood board, a style sheet, a storyboard, a resource list, a music and sound effect list, a list of locations, a contingency plan
and a list of health and safety issues. The planning stage was the strongest part of the project because it gave me a better idea of how long the
project will take.
I emailed Yorkshire Winter Wonderland to ask them if I could use the Ice Rink to film the project, but they said no because it wouldn’t have been
easy to film on there because it’s a public place. I adapted my plan and I used my second Idea which was to do a factual project on Yorkshire Winter
Wonderland as a whole. I asked them if I could interview some of the people that worked there and they said yes.
I made my production schedule early on in the project to help me get further ahead and it helped me get a better idea of how long each task would
take.
Storyboard
I made the storyboard using a character and a green screen as a background because I wasn’t sure what the background was going to be. After
filming, I went back to the storyboard and changed the characters positions – before they were sat down, but when I went to interview them, they
were stood up. This didn't effect the framing because I could still film her from the waist upwards.
Scripts
I prepared a voice over script, but then decided not to use it record a voice over because I thought it wouldn’t fit in with the sequence as things
changed. I also prepared a script for a presenter (myself) to introduce the project, but again I didn’t use it because things changed.
Have you pushed yourself or did you play too safe?
I feel like I did push myself for the planning because even though it’s the strongest part of my projects, I included more content compared to my pre-
production in my previous relating to weather planning, kit booking, and I expanded on my Contingency planning and Health and Safety.
PRODUCTION
I felt that the production process went well because I managed to film and edit
everything in time.
On the day of filming, I managed to film all the footage and the interviews in one go.
Unfortunately I couldn’t use the camera because it kept saying that the SD Card was
full, but it had no images. At the time I wasn’t sure what to do, but then when I told my
tutor, he said it needed formatting. I used my phone to film the footage. I used the
boom microphone to record the voices which made the sound quality a lot better than
what I thought because there was a lot of noise in the background. The interviewee’s
voice was very clear to hear.
During the production process, I tried something new which was making an animated
Christmas tree which wipes over the question to reveal what the question is.
PROBLEM SOLVING
 I had a problem on the day of filming. I had trouble with setting the
camera up. I used my phone instead so I could record the interviews
and the activities around it. Before my next project, I plan to go around
college filming so I get more practice with the camera and it will help
me get more prepared. This will help so I don’t have this problem again.
Due to an issue occurring with my Pre-Production PowerPoint, I
decided to save it in various places so that there was more than one
copy to avoid losing all the work.
AUDIO QUALITIES
Strengths Weaknesses How to improve
The sound recorded for the interview was loud
and clear to hear because the interviewee
project her voice.
There was a lot of background noise which was
slightly difficult to cover up.
Next time when I interview someone, I will try
and film them in a quieter area (e.g a studio or
a quiet room). This will help so that there isn’t
any unnecessary noise.
The music choice helped mask the background
noise, and it wasn’t too loud so the voice of
the interviewee could still be heard.
The music that was playing in the Winter
Wonderland shed can still be heard.
Next time if there is music playing in the
background, I will ask for it to be turned down.
If this can’t be done, then I will increase the
audio of the interview and the music so it
covers any unwanted noise.
There was no distortion There is no audio effects on the music
soundtrack because the music gets louder and
quieter very suddenly.
Next time, I will add an audio effect so that the
music fades in and out appropriately.
TECHNICAL QUALITIES
Strengths Weaknesses How to improve
The footage quality isn’t blurry which
helped make everything clear to see.
The timing with the transitions and the
music is slightly out at times (e.g when the
first question appears).
Next time, I will make the transitions of a scene or animation happen in
time with the music. This will help make them run smoother.
The position of the interviewee is at an
angle from the camera, making it look like
she’s not talking directly to the audience.
The camera is at too much of an angle
because it’s obvious that the interview was
filmed from an angle that the interviewer
wasn’t at.
Next time, I will make sure that the camera operator is behind the
interviewer, but at an angle. This will make sure that she’s not talking
directly to the audience.
The animation runs smoothly as it reveals
what the question is.
When the interviewee is talking about
something, it will cut to the thing she’s
talking about so the audience know what it
is (e.g when she talks about the speedway,
it cuts to the speedway and cuts back a few
seconds later)
AESTHETIC QUALITIES
Strengths Weaknesses How to improve
The overall look of the
video isn’t too bright and
isn’t too dark and it isn’t
too bright.
FEEDBACK FROM DAVE
 Few title cards are out of place
 Music needs to be a lot quieter.
 There is one answer that we almost can’t hear.
 I improved the video based on this feedback. I resized the title cards so
that they fit within the frame size. I reduced the volume of the music so
it made it easier to hear the answer of the question, and I increased the
volume on the audio of the interviews.
FEEDBACK HARRY ADKINS-
PENNINGTON
Strengths
 The camera work was professional for the interview
 The questions were clear and easy to read for most of it and the font was so cute
 The music was festive and fit with the whole video, the music fading out slightly when transitioning worked incredibly well
 The transitions between the interview and the attractions worked really well and they didn't take too long which was good
 Your interviewees answers were very clear and understandable
 The animated tree looked really good, I personally would add a star on top but that is my opinion, I could still tell it was a Christmas tree
Weaknesses
 The transition from the question to the answer was a bit too fast as I wasn't able to read some of the larger questions
 The background noise was slightly louder than I would like but I understand since it was during working hours
 The shot of the Merry Christmas sign was slightly slanted which made it a bit difficult to read
FEEDBACK WILL REID
 Its alright. The music and animation is good. However its mainly
questions follow day the women answering them not really showing
any examples of what is happening. It can be improved by showing
other footage of what is happening.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Have you pushed yourself or did you play too safe?
I feel like I pushed myself because I went out and interviewed people that I’d never met before, which
helped to boost my confidence. Also, the project felt a bit risky because they could have said ’no’ to me
doing a project on the whole Winter Wonderland. In the future, I would like to develop my interviewing
skills and continue to improve my confidence.
What new skills, techniques and ways of working have you used?
I made an animated Christmas tree in Photoshop which added an extra feature to the project. I haven’t
used animation in any of my other projects. It gave the video a bit more of a Christmassy feeling.
What else do you want to learn as a result of this experience?
I want to learn more editing techniques. This could help with developing the products and making them
moter entertaining
