story goes on, she changes to a more likeable person.

and Young Sheldon Similarities
Both Sheldonâs have the same personality.
The mothers have the same personality â theyâre both very religious and follow gods
rules.
9. The Big Bang Theory and Young
Sheldon Differences
The Big Bang Theory is more modern, whereas Young Sheldon is set in older times because it tells the story of how Sheldon grew
up.
Although Meemaw loves her grandchildren, in Young Sheldon, she doesnât like having a responsibility and isnât bothered with the
way people act. In The Big Bang Theory, she loves and cares for Sheldon, but is strict and likes everyone to be polite.
Young Sheldon uses non-diegetic sound because Jim Parsons narrates every episode describing how Sheldon is growing up. The
Big Bang Theory doesnât have a narrator because the character is easy to understand.
In Young Sheldon, thereâs no laughter in the background whereas there is in the Big Bang Theory.
In Young Sheldon, music is played in the background at the start and end of each scene, letting the audience know theyâre moving
onto something else. In The Big Bang Theory, a sound effect is played when they move onto different scenes.
The Big Bang Theory uses scientific graphics when moving to each scene. In Young Sheldon, they move from scene to scene
straight away.
Young Sheldon features Sheldonâs dad, whereas The Big Bang Theory doesnât feature him because he died between Sheldonâs
child hood and adult life.

The show was originally called Mrs Browneâs Boys and aired on RTE 2 FM (an Irish radio station) in 1992.
Mrs Brown
Mrs Brown is shameless , rude and witty, and gets away with anything. She says what she thinks. Although her attitude towards the other characters isnât nice, she does care about them and tries
to help them when they need it. She also has a very dirty mind.
Winnie
Winnie is easily fooled and takes jokes to seriously leading onto double entendres (e.g she asks Mr Foley for a quickie when she really means quiche).

Maria is another hard working person. Sheâs very kind and considerate towards people.

Buster is very dumb person who struggles to understand things (e.g jokes). He will laugh at a joke and then take it seriously. He likes taking big risks (e.g scamming people). He will ask Dermot to
help him with a prize draw scam, handing out raffle tickets to everyone, but them he falls for the scam he sets up by buying tickets for himself.

15. The Big Bang Theory Season 12 Trailer
studio/location
The trailer is mostly filmed in the apartments and other areas of the building, but snippets are filmed in the cafĂŠ of the university
Effects
The show starts with a dramatic voice saying âItâs the beginning of the endâ. This draws the audiences attention in because it makes them
wonder what the trailer is talking about. Then it shifts to the characters reactions, which arenât reactions to it being the last series, but
reactions to a story in the series. Most reactions are quite dramatic whereas some are quite calm.
Angle
The camera angle doesnât change throughout the trailer. It looks at the characters faces throughout.
post-production
The trailer has been cut down to 30 seconds, using scenes from each episode of series 12.
Lighting
The lighting is bright throughout.
Fonts
Fonts are used at the start if the video. There Big and bold making it easy to read, and it looks good against the background.
Colours
The colour of the font and backgrounds make them work well together. They donât look too busy, making them easy to read and look good.
Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
It appeals to the audience because some of the acting/reactions involve cliff-hangers (e.g. Pennyâs reaction WHAAA!). Penny's reactions is so
big it makes me wonder what sheâs reacting to (e.g. big news?)
17. Mrs Brownâs Boys season 2 Trailer
⢠Studio/location
⢠The show is filmed in an indoor studio where a live audience can watch. Although the series is set in Ireland, itâs filmed in Scotland.
⢠Angle
⢠Thereâs a lot of distance and wide shots because itâs filmed in a studio. And it shows the characters movements in more detail. They show a lot of the
set.
⢠Effects
⢠Thereâs not many effects apart from having the light on. They show the fact itâs somebodyâs living room and shows everyday items (lamps, clocks,
TV).
⢠post-production
⢠The trailer has been made cutting down scenes from every episode in the series. This is to try and persuade the audience to watch the show. Theyâve
added a voice over explaining whatâs to be expected in the new series.
⢠lighting
⢠The lighting is bright throughout to make it clear itâs not horror.
⢠Colours
⢠The colours and style is very old fashioned. It looks like itâs set in the 20th century, even though they say in the show itâs set in the 21st century.
⢠Fonts
⢠The font is quite small, but still easy to read because itâs not too squiggly. Itâs bright and bold, and it stands out against the backgrounds. The last bit
of text could be improved because some of it is yellow text against a yellow background which some people might find difficult to read.
⢠Props
⢠Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
⢠The trailer appeals to the audience because it shows a lot of
⢠Why have you chosen to look at this? What have you learned that can help you in your project?
⢠I chose to look at the trailer because I know itâs a popular show and thereâs a lot of one-liners, puns and slapstick involved. Also, in the episodes they
leave some of the outtakes in, making it even funnier to watch.
19. Young Sheldon Season 1 Trailer
studio/location
The trailer is filmed in various locations. The trailers first scene is in the church. Although it doesnât show anything yet, it is explained in the first episode.
The next scene is outdoors either at a bus stop or at a school. Itâs easy to see itâs school related because theirs a yellow school bus in the background. The
next scene is in Sheldonâs house and it starts showing the characters personalities.
Angle
The angles and shots in the church scenes are distance and close up. This shows the type of location itâs set in and and it shows what the characters are
doing in more detail. Most scenes are filmed close up which shows the characters facial expressions/emotions.
post-production
The trailers been cut using scenes from the first episode only. This advertises what the show will be about and introduces the characters. Some music has
been added to the background to make the video flow better. If there was no music, it would put the audience off watching it because it makes the story
runs better/brings it alive.
Fonts
The fonts are big and easy to read, and they stand out against the blue/white background. The Font is placed in the white areas, making it easy to read. If it
was placed over the blue area, it would be harder to read because the font is blue as well.
Lighting
The light is bright throughout which is effective and in some ways it isnât. it shows the show doesnât have any dark storylines.
composition
The placing of the characters is really effective because it shows what's happening in a scene. When Sheldon is being told off, his dad is in front of the
camera with his hands on his hips showing heâs annoyed with him about something.
Costume
The characters costumes show there personality in more detail because it says more about them and what they like.
colours
The colours/theme shows the era the show was set (late 80s). There are lots of brown/beige in the room and on the characters clothes.
Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
It makes the audience want to watch it because it has humour. People who are interested in The Big Bang Theory will watch it because it shows what
Sheldon is like growing up. I chose it because it has characters who will inspire me for my trailer.
21. Research Analysis
⢠What common features do the researched
products have?
⢠All the comedies I researched have a strange character which is at the centre of the show.
⢠Most of the comedies include slapstick which makes it entertaining
⢠They all have good plots/storylines.
⢠Some shows include non-diegetic sound (laughter) which has been put in during editing (Fawlty Towers and Allo Allo). Whereas other
shows might include a live audience laughing at what's happening (The Big Bang Theory and Mrs Brownâs Boys)
⢠What aspects of the research will you include
within your own production work?
⢠I plan on including non-diegetic sound. This will be at various funny points of the trailer.
⢠Iâm going to add some slapstick to the trailer. This will make the audience laugh and make them want to watch more.
⢠I want to use an explosion effect in the final scene making the trailer end on a cliff-hanger. This will have an impact on the audience
because it will make them wonder what happened, making them want to watch more.

⢠British comedy is used in films, TV and Radio.
Itâs best recognised for the strange characters,
plots and settings.
⢠Most comedies have been made and
broadcast on BBC TV and Radio channels.
34. Practical Research
⢠I did an experiment trying to remake a scene from The Big Bang Theory. I
filmed the lift door shutting, then added the footage to premiere pro. I
found an exploding effect on YouTube, downloaded and added it to
premiere pro. I cut the green screen out using key colour and colour
tolerance. I moved the colour tolerance up 187 which cut the green screen
out completely. If I set it to 255 it distorted the effect.
⢠It would have been better if the effect was at the bottom of the screen
because you can see a definite square in the centre of the picture when I
cut the green screen down.
35. Practical Research
⢠I filmed the lift doors shutting from the inside because I
wanted to see the âimpactâ from the inside. I downloaded
another green screen explosion from YouTube, and found a
black starry image on the internet.
⢠I added all footage to premiere pro and cut the green screen
out by moving the colour tolerance to 205. I cut the lift noises
out by unlinking the sound from the footage.
⢠Iâm not happy with the way it finished because thereâs a
square in the scene when I cut the green screen. I will
research how to get the shape out if itâs possible.
36. Practical Research
I downloaded two Big Bang Theory scenes from YouTube. I cut the first scene down to the
part where Bernadette says sheâs pregnant, then cut the season 12 trailer down to Howards
funny reaction. I added a reverb so when he shouts âNOOOOO!â for the last time it echo's. I
added audio gain by 25db because when it was set to the original reverb, it was too quiet.
37. Practical Research
I asked two class mates to be in this experiment. I used the tripod to make the camera steady. I added
the footage to premiere pro and cut it down to necessary bits. I added a green screen explosion, and cut
it down with Chroma key and turning the colour tolerance up to cut the green screen out. I added a
smoke effect for after the explosion. I cut the black background out using colour tolerance, turning it up
to 255.
Iâm happy with this experiment, but the only thing that lets it down is the square where the green screen
has been. The flames and smoke only flow within the shape. It would have been better if it could flow
across the whole screen making it more effective.
The solution is to research how to get rid of that shape, or, shoot the scene to the size and framing of the
green screen clip.
38. Practical ResearchI made a DVD front cover experiment. I used the spot removal tool to remove unwanted
marks from the actors faces. Then I used the polygon lasso tool to remove the backdrop
background. I used the paint bucket to make the background red.
Iâm happy with the way this experiment went, but for the real thing, I will try adding
more effects to make it better.

I decided to do a font experiment because I want to make a DVD front cover/poster, and wanted
to see which fonts stood out, looked appealing and which were easy to read. I used fonts from
Photoshop and design fonts from flamingtext.com.
Iâm happy with this experiment, but it would have been better if I put every font on the
experiment poster. This would make it easier to decide which font to use.
