Existing Product The Big Bang TheoryThe Big Bang Theory is a US sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It mainly focuses on one subject (science) and focuses on a group of people
that works in different fields of the subject. The audience for the show is people who are interested in video games, science and board games. When
the show started, it focused on five people (Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard and Raj). As the show went on, it introduced new characters.
Leonard and Penny’s relationship is one of the biggest features of the show. It starts in the pilot episode. When they first appear together, Leonard
instantly likes penny. She doesn’t notice straight away, but later in the series she notices. As the series goes on, they have an on off relationship. When
they take a break from each other they go out with other people, but it’s easy to see they get jealous of each other. At the end of series 8, they both
marry.
Sheldon and Amy (known as shamy) met on a dating website, which Howard and Raj signed Sheldon up to. They both met in series 3. Amy is a ‘Mrs
Sheldon’ because she acts a lot like him at first, making them a good match. Amy considered Sheldon as a ‘kinda sorta boyfriend’ while Sheldon
considered Amy as ‘a girl who is his friend, but not his girlfriend’. It’s obvious their relationship was unconventional, then it slowly grows into a normal
relationship. Also, Amy’s personality changes as she turns into a more likeable person. They get married at the end of series 11.

relationship has had all the milestones (dating, engagement, marriage and kids).
The show has guest starred lots famous people playing fiction characters of themselves. People like Stephen Hawking who often appeared when

Jones appear when Sheldon finds James earl jones in a restraunt and says he’s a fan of star wars.

story goes on, she changes to a more likeable person.

high school. The show features his twin sister Missy, older brother Georgie, his mum and dad and his grandma

Existing Product The Big Bang Theory
and Young Sheldon Similarities
Both Sheldon’s have the same personality.
The mothers have the same personality – they’re both very religious and follow gods
rules.
The Big Bang Theory and Young
Sheldon Differences
The Big Bang Theory is more modern, whereas Young Sheldon is set in older times because it tells the story of how Sheldon grew
up.
Although Meemaw loves her grandchildren, in Young Sheldon, she doesn’t like having a responsibility and isn’t bothered with the
way people act. In The Big Bang Theory, she loves and cares for Sheldon, but is strict and likes everyone to be polite.
Young Sheldon uses non-diegetic sound because Jim Parsons narrates every episode describing how Sheldon is growing up. The
Big Bang Theory doesn’t have a narrator because the character is easy to understand.
In Young Sheldon, there’s no laughter in the background whereas there is in the Big Bang Theory.
In Young Sheldon, music is played in the background at the start and end of each scene, letting the audience know they’re moving
onto something else. In The Big Bang Theory, a sound effect is played when they move onto different scenes.
The Big Bang Theory uses scientific graphics when moving to each scene. In Young Sheldon, they move from scene to scene
straight away.
Young Sheldon features Sheldon’s dad, whereas The Big Bang Theory doesn’t feature him because he died between Sheldon’s
child hood and adult life.

Winnie
Winnie is easily fooled and takes jokes to seriously leading onto double entendres (e.g she asks Mr Foley for a quickie when she really means quiche).

Grandad

The Big Bang Theory Season 12 Trailer
studio/location
The trailer is mostly filmed in the apartments and other areas of the building, but snippets are filmed in the café of the university
Effects
The show starts with a dramatic voice saying ‘It’s the beginning of the end’. This draws the audiences attention in because it makes them
wonder what the trailer is talking about. Then it shifts to the characters reactions, which aren’t reactions to it being the last series, but
reactions to a story in the series. Most reactions are quite dramatic whereas some are quite calm.
Angle
The camera angle doesn’t change throughout the trailer. It looks at the characters faces throughout.
post-production
The trailer has been cut down to 30 seconds, using scenes from each episode of series 12.
Lighting
The lighting is bright throughout.
Fonts
Fonts are used in various points of the video. There Big and bold making it easy to read, and it looks good against the background.
On some of the letters, they’ve added an atom graphic which shows it’s a science comedy show.
Colours
The colour of the font and backgrounds make them work well together. They don’t look too busy, making them easy to read and look good.
Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
It appeals to the audience because some of the acting/reactions involve cliff-hangers (e.g. Penny’s reaction WHAAA!). Penny's reactions is so
big it makes me wonder what she’s reacting to (e.g. big news?)

Mrs Brown’s Boys season 2 Trailer
• Studio/location
• The show is filmed in an indoor studio where a live audience can watch. Although the series is set in Ireland, it’s filmed in Scotland. The locations in
the studio are Mrs Brown’s house (living room and kitchen), and the pub.
• Angle
• There’s a lot of distance and wide shots because it’s filmed in a studio. And it shows the characters movements in more detail. They show a lot of the
set.
• Effects
• There’s not many effects apart from having the light on. They show the fact it’s somebody’s living room and shows everyday items (lamps, clocks,
TV).
• post-production
• The trailer has been made cutting scenes from every episode in the series. This is to try and persuade the audience to watch the show. They’ve
added a voice over explaining what’s to be expected in the new series.
• lighting
• The lighting changes throughout the trailer because the settings are in different times of day or in different locations.
• Colours
• The colours and style is very old fashioned. It looks like it’s set in the twentieth century, even though the show is set in the twenty first century.
• Fonts
• The font is quite small, but still easy to read because it’s not too squiggly. It’s bright and bold, and it stands out against the backgrounds. The last bit
of text could be improved because some of it is yellow text against a yellow background which some people might find difficult to read.
• Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
• The trailer appeals to the audience because it shows a lot of
• Why have you chosen to look at this? What have you learned that can help you in your project?
• I chose to look at the trailer because I know it’s a popular show and there’s a lot of one-liners, puns and slapstick involved. Also, in the episodes they
leave some of the outtakes in, making it even funnier to watch.

Young Sheldon Season 1 Trailer
studio/location
The trailer is filmed in various locations. The trailers first scene is in the church. Although it doesn’t show anything yet, it is explained in the first episode.
The next scene is outdoors either at a bus stop or at a school. It’s easy to see it’s school related because theirs a yellow school bus in the background. The
next scene is in Sheldon’s house and it starts showing the characters personalities.
Angle
The angles and shots in the church scenes are distance and close up. This shows the type of location it’s set in and and it shows what the characters are
doing in more detail. Most scenes are filmed close up which shows the characters facial expressions/emotions.
post-production
The trailers been cut using scenes from the first episode only. This advertises what the show will be about and introduces the characters. Some music has
been added to the background to make the video flow better. If there was no music, it would put the audience off watching it because it makes the story
runs better/brings it alive.
Fonts
The fonts are big and easy to read, and they stand out against the blue/white background. The Font is placed in the white areas, making it easy to read. If it
was placed over the blue area, it would be harder to read because the font is blue as well.
Lighting
The light is bright throughout which is effective and in some ways it isn’t. it shows the show doesn’t have any dark storylines.
composition
The placing of the characters is really effective because it shows what's happening in a scene. When Sheldon is being told off, his dad is in front of the
camera with his hands on his hips showing he’s annoyed with him about something.
Costume
The characters costumes show there personality in more detail because it says more about them and what they like.
colours
The colours/theme shows the era the show was set (late 80s). There are lots of brown/beige in the room and on the characters clothes.
Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it?
It makes the audience want to watch it because it has humour. People who are interested in The Big Bang Theory will watch it because it shows what
Sheldon is like growing up. I chose it because it has characters who will inspire me for my trailer.

Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
• All the comedies I researched have a strange character which is at the centre of the show.
• Most of the comedies include slapstick which makes it entertaining
• They all have good plots/storylines.
• Some shows include non-diegetic sound (laughter) which has been put in during editing (Fawlty Towers and Allo Allo). Whereas other
shows might include a live audience laughing at what's happening (The Big Bang Theory and Mrs Brown’s Boys)
• The Big Bang Theory is very fast paced and punchy.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your own production work?
• I plan on including non-diegetic sound. This will be at various funny points of the trailer.
• I’m going to add some slapstick to the trailer. This will make the audience laugh and make them want to watch more.
• I want to use an explosion effect in the final scene making the trailer end on a cliff-hanger. This will have an impact on the audience
because it will make them wonder what happened, making them want to watch more.
• In my script I will try to make it sound fast paced and punchy so the story is told in the right way. This will have an impact on the
audience becauseit won’t be boring it, and it will keep them interested.

Primary Research Summary
I made a survey about What type of comedies do people
like (e.g The Big Bang theory), how do they watch it (e.g
amazon prime), and what do they like to see in comedy
(e.g comedy drama or slapstick or stunts). This helped me
with my idea because it made it easier to decide what
elements to include. This will help make the video appeal
to the target audience because I know more about what
they want to see.
I’m happy with my results because most of them came
back the same. Some came back different than others,
but they still showed what most people want to see.
Summary of Secondary and Primary
Research
The primary research was really useful because it let me
see what my target audience like about comedy (e.g what
elements (slapstick) and kinds of TV shows they like).
Doing this helped because I could add elements into the
story which people liked the most, making the video
entertaining for the audience to watch.
The secondary research was useful because after looking
at the primary research results, I looked at the shows
target audiences. I found this useful because it told me
about the audiences in more detail.
Subject Research British
• British comedy is used on TV, in films, in theatre and on the radio.
It’s best known for the strange characters which are the main
surround to each plot.
Radio comedy
Radio comedy has been made mainly by the BBC. A number of British
radio comedies achieved considerable renown in the second half of
the twentieth century.
TV
Although most popular comedy shows started on the radio, there has
been a lot of successful series on TV (e.g Mrs Brown’s Boys). British
comedy normally has six episodes a series, and a series is broadcast
once or twice a year.
• Most comedies have been made and broadcast on BBC TV and
Radio channels.
• The most popular British TV comedy is Fawlty Towers.
Practical Research
Practical Research
• I did an experiment trying to remake a scene from The Big Bang Theory. I
filmed the lift door shutting, then added the footage to premiere pro. I
found an exploding effect on YouTube, downloaded and added it to
premiere pro. I cut the green screen out using key colour and colour
tolerance. I moved the colour tolerance up 187 which cut the green screen
out completely. If I set it to 255 it distorted the effect.
• It would have been better if the effect was at the bottom of the screen
because you can see a definite square in the centre of the picture when I
cut the green screen down.
Practical Research
• I filmed the lift doors shutting from the inside because I
wanted to see the ‘impact’ from the inside. I downloaded
another green screen explosion from YouTube, and found a
black starry image on the internet.
• I added all footage to premiere pro and cut the green screen
out by moving the colour tolerance to 205. I cut the lift noises
out by unlinking the sound from the footage.
• I’m not happy with the way it finished because there’s a
square in the scene when I cut the green screen. I will
research how to get the shape out if it’s possible.
Practical Research
I downloaded two Big Bang Theory scenes from YouTube. I cut the first scene down to the
part where Bernadette says she’s pregnant, then cut the season 12 trailer down to Howards
funny reaction. I added a reverb so when he shouts ‘NOOOOO!’ for the last time it echo's. I
added audio gain by 25db because when it was set to the original reverb, it was too quiet.
Practical Research
I asked two class mates to be in this experiment. I used the tripod to make the camera steady. I added
the footage to premiere pro and cut it down to necessary bits. I added a green screen explosion, and cut
it down with Chroma key and turning the colour tolerance up to cut the green screen out. I added a
smoke effect for after the explosion. I cut the black background out using colour tolerance, turning it up
to 255.
I’m happy with this experiment, but the only thing that lets it down is the square where the green screen
has been. The flames and smoke only flow within the shape. It would have been better if it could flow
across the whole screen making it more effective.
The solution is to research how to get rid of that shape, or, shoot the scene to the size and framing of the
green screen clip.
Practical ResearchI made a DVD front cover experiment. I used the spot removal tool to remove unwanted
marks from the actors faces. Then I used the polygon lasso tool to remove the backdrop
background. I used the paint bucket to make the background red.
I’m happy with the way this experiment went, but for the real thing, I will try adding
more effects to make it better.

I decided to do a font experiment because I want to make a DVD front cover/poster, and wanted
to see which fonts stood out, looked appealing and which were easy to read. I used fonts from
Photoshop and design fonts from flamingtext.com.
I’m happy with this experiment, but it would have been better if I put every font on the
experiment poster. This would make it easier to decide which font to use.

  • 2. Existing Product The Big Bang TheoryThe Big Bang Theory is a US sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It mainly focuses on one subject (science) and focuses on a group of people that works in different fields of the subject. The audience for the show is people who are interested in video games, science and board games. When the show started, it focused on five people (Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard and Raj). As the show went on, it introduced new characters. Leonard and Penny’s relationship is one of the biggest features of the show. It starts in the pilot episode. When they first appear together, Leonard instantly likes penny. She doesn’t notice straight away, but later in the series she notices. As the series goes on, they have an on off relationship. When they take a break from each other they go out with other people, but it’s easy to see they get jealous of each other. At the end of series 8, they both marry. Sheldon and Amy (known as shamy) met on a dating website, which Howard and Raj signed Sheldon up to. They both met in series 3. Amy is a ‘Mrs Sheldon’ because she acts a lot like him at first, making them a good match. Amy considered Sheldon as a ‘kinda sorta boyfriend’ while Sheldon considered Amy as ‘a girl who is his friend, but not his girlfriend’. It’s obvious their relationship was unconventional, then it slowly grows into a normal relationship. Also, Amy’s personality changes as she turns into a more likeable person. They get married at the end of series 11. Howard and Bernadette’s relationship is the fastest moving relationship in the show. Although they split up, the split doesn’t last long. Their relationship has had all the milestones (dating, engagement, marriage and kids). The show has guest starred lots famous people playing fiction characters of themselves. People like Stephen Hawking who often appeared when Sheldon has a theory. William Shatner appeared when Will Wheaton has a celebrity game of dungeons and dragons., Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones appear when Sheldon finds James earl jones in a restraunt and says he’s a fan of star wars.
  • 3. The Big Bang Theory CharactersCharacter of Penny Penny is introduced as a new neighbour for Sheldon and Leonard, as well as a love interest for Leonard. As the series goes on they have an on and off relationship. Later in the series, they get married. She’s very sarcastic and doesn’t understand science, until she trains to become a pharmaceutical salesperson. At the start of the series, she’s a waitress at ‘The Cheesecake factory’ and an actress. Character of Sheldon Sheldon is a very smart, but stubborn person. He has a very specific schedule. He likes everything to be very specific. He likes everything to go his way. He doesn’t understand sarcasm. Character of Leonard Leonard is very content. At the start of the series, he fancies penny and they have on and off relationships. He gets jealous when penny starts going out with another man. Character of Howard Howard’s personality is very strange. He has a loud relationship with his mother because they shout at each other even if it’s about something civil. Character of Raj Raj is very timid. He can’t talk to women unless he’s drunk. He’s very shy and nervous, but he later grows out of this and becomes more confident. Character of Amy Amy is introduced later in the series as a love interest for Sheldon. Her personality is a lot like Sheldon’s when she first appears, but as there story goes on, she changes to a more likeable person. Character of Bernadette Bernadette is introduced later in the series as a love interest for Howard. Her personality is nice, but she can be strict when it comes to Howard (e.g Oh boo-hoo you’re not going to space). She says this when Howard has the opportunity to go to space, but she disagrees.

  • 5. Existing Product Young Sheldon Young Sheldon is a prequel to Big Bang Theory created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The show idea was created by Jim Parsons (The actor of Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory). It focuses on what Sheldon is like as a child. The series is set in 1989 and follows Sheldon from the age of 9, when he lives with his family and starts going to high school. The show features his twin sister Missy, older brother Georgie, his mum and dad and his grandma (who he calls Meemaw). His friends and family have to cope with his unique and stubborn personality. The show guest stars Professor Proton which is Sheldon’s favourite TV show and favourite person when he grows up. When the show is on, he won’t let anyone watch anything else.
  • 6. Young Sheldon Characters Sheldon Sheldon is stubborn likes everything to be done his way. Missy Missy is very mischievous and likes picking on Sheldon, but in situations when Sheldon needs help or is upset, she’s kind to him by helping him out. Georgie Georgie is very lazy, and has a ‘I don’t care’ attitude towards everything. He doesn’t care about Sheldon. Mary Mary is very religious and likes everyone to follow gods rules. She’s very charitable. Meemaw Meemaw doesn’t seem to have a sense of responsibility. George George is the father of Sheldon, Missy and Georgie. He is a PE teacher at Sheldon’s school. He likes to back off the kids and let them deal with things in there own way, but there are times when Mary likes him to step in.
  • 7. Young Sheldon Set Natural light Lamps (props/adds more light to the set) Wall (makes the set look like it’s set in the 80s) Old style TV (makes the set look old fashioned because it’s big and boxy) Chair (looks slightly modern, trying to make the set look not as old as it should look) Floor
  • 8. Existing Product The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon Similarities Both Sheldon’s have the same personality. The mothers have the same personality – they’re both very religious and follow gods rules.
  • 9. The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon Differences The Big Bang Theory is more modern, whereas Young Sheldon is set in older times because it tells the story of how Sheldon grew up. Although Meemaw loves her grandchildren, in Young Sheldon, she doesn’t like having a responsibility and isn’t bothered with the way people act. In The Big Bang Theory, she loves and cares for Sheldon, but is strict and likes everyone to be polite. Young Sheldon uses non-diegetic sound because Jim Parsons narrates every episode describing how Sheldon is growing up. The Big Bang Theory doesn’t have a narrator because the character is easy to understand. In Young Sheldon, there’s no laughter in the background whereas there is in the Big Bang Theory. In Young Sheldon, music is played in the background at the start and end of each scene, letting the audience know they’re moving onto something else. In The Big Bang Theory, a sound effect is played when they move onto different scenes. The Big Bang Theory uses scientific graphics when moving to each scene. In Young Sheldon, they move from scene to scene straight away. Young Sheldon features Sheldon’s dad, whereas The Big Bang Theory doesn’t feature him because he died between Sheldon’s child hood and adult life.
  • 10. Allo AlloAllo Allo is a British sitcom created by David Croft. It’s set in Nouvion, German occupied France. Café owner Rene and his team have to look after the painting of ‘The fallen Madonna’ until after the war, then the Germans will keep it for themselves. As well as having to hide two British airmen from the French resistance. As part of the plans, they use a radio in the bedroom to keep in contact with England, letting them know where the British airmen are. The resistance are helped out by Officer Crabtree, a British spy dressed as a French policeman. They send him out because he can speak French, but actually can’t speak French because whenever he says good morning, it comes out as ‘good moaning’. Character of Rene Rene is very sarcastic and doesn’t put up with nonsense. He’s having affair with several women behind his wife’s back and is trying to keep them a secret. Character of Edith Edith is very jealous and worries that Rene is having an affair whenever he’s near a woman. She’s very strict and slightly stubborn. Character of Officer Crabtree Officer Crabtree is the undercover policeman for the British airmen, and the ‘English idiot who cannot speak French’. His famous catchphrase is ‘good moaning’ meaning good morning. He’s brainless when it comes to speaking ‘French’ but when he’s in a situation, he uses his brain. Character of Michelle Michelle is very strict and likes everyone to listen to her ‘only once’. She’s very good at working in different disguises. Character of Mimi Mimi is a trier – she works hard at anything she has to do. She comes up with good (ish) ideas which Rene usually disapproves of. She doesn’t like it when she’s been demeaned.

This mainly happens when the guests come to stay because he ends up being at there beck and call most of the time. The show has guessed starred people like Bernard Cribbins who plays an arrogant and high maintenance character. This character gets on Basil’s nerved the most throughout the series. Basil Fawlty Basil is a rude and tense person to be around. He has a very sarcastic sense of humour which is uses at inapropritarte moments. Sybil Fawlty Sybil is bossy, but she can control the hotel more than Basil can because she’s polite and can talk to the customers without letting them wind her up. Manuel Manuel is the Spanish waiter. He gets very confused easily because he doesn’t understand English. He tries to do good things, but when he’s in a situation it goes from bad to worse very easily (e.g. When there going to do a fire drill and he sets the kitchen on fire) Major Major is a resident of the hotel and has a good friendship with Basil. He’s another character that gets confused because he can talk about one thing and it can change instantly to something else, and someone has to correct him. Polly Polly is a reasonable person. When Basil gets annoyed when dealing with a guest, she can calm him down.

  • 15. The Big Bang Theory Season 12 Trailer studio/location The trailer is mostly filmed in the apartments and other areas of the building, but snippets are filmed in the café of the university Effects The show starts with a dramatic voice saying ‘It’s the beginning of the end’. This draws the audiences attention in because it makes them wonder what the trailer is talking about. Then it shifts to the characters reactions, which aren’t reactions to it being the last series, but reactions to a story in the series. Most reactions are quite dramatic whereas some are quite calm. Angle The camera angle doesn’t change throughout the trailer. It looks at the characters faces throughout. post-production The trailer has been cut down to 30 seconds, using scenes from each episode of series 12. Lighting The lighting is bright throughout. Fonts Fonts are used in various points of the video. There Big and bold making it easy to read, and it looks good against the background. On some of the letters, they’ve added an atom graphic which shows it’s a science comedy show. Colours The colour of the font and backgrounds make them work well together. They don’t look too busy, making them easy to read and look good. Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it? It appeals to the audience because some of the acting/reactions involve cliff-hangers (e.g. Penny’s reaction WHAAA!). Penny's reactions is so big it makes me wonder what she’s reacting to (e.g. big news?)

  • 17. Mrs Brown’s Boys season 2 Trailer • Studio/location • The show is filmed in an indoor studio where a live audience can watch. Although the series is set in Ireland, it’s filmed in Scotland. The locations in the studio are Mrs Brown’s house (living room and kitchen), and the pub. • Angle • There’s a lot of distance and wide shots because it’s filmed in a studio. And it shows the characters movements in more detail. They show a lot of the set. • Effects • There’s not many effects apart from having the light on. They show the fact it’s somebody’s living room and shows everyday items (lamps, clocks, TV). • post-production • The trailer has been made cutting scenes from every episode in the series. This is to try and persuade the audience to watch the show. They’ve added a voice over explaining what’s to be expected in the new series. • lighting • The lighting changes throughout the trailer because the settings are in different times of day or in different locations. • Colours • The colours and style is very old fashioned. It looks like it’s set in the twentieth century, even though the show is set in the twenty first century. • Fonts • The font is quite small, but still easy to read because it’s not too squiggly. It’s bright and bold, and it stands out against the backgrounds. The last bit of text could be improved because some of it is yellow text against a yellow background which some people might find difficult to read. • Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it? • The trailer appeals to the audience because it shows a lot of • Why have you chosen to look at this? What have you learned that can help you in your project? • I chose to look at the trailer because I know it’s a popular show and there’s a lot of one-liners, puns and slapstick involved. Also, in the episodes they leave some of the outtakes in, making it even funnier to watch.

  • 19. Young Sheldon Season 1 Trailer studio/location The trailer is filmed in various locations. The trailers first scene is in the church. Although it doesn’t show anything yet, it is explained in the first episode. The next scene is outdoors either at a bus stop or at a school. It’s easy to see it’s school related because theirs a yellow school bus in the background. The next scene is in Sheldon’s house and it starts showing the characters personalities. Angle The angles and shots in the church scenes are distance and close up. This shows the type of location it’s set in and and it shows what the characters are doing in more detail. Most scenes are filmed close up which shows the characters facial expressions/emotions. post-production The trailers been cut using scenes from the first episode only. This advertises what the show will be about and introduces the characters. Some music has been added to the background to make the video flow better. If there was no music, it would put the audience off watching it because it makes the story runs better/brings it alive. Fonts The fonts are big and easy to read, and they stand out against the blue/white background. The Font is placed in the white areas, making it easy to read. If it was placed over the blue area, it would be harder to read because the font is blue as well. Lighting The light is bright throughout which is effective and in some ways it isn’t. it shows the show doesn’t have any dark storylines. composition The placing of the characters is really effective because it shows what's happening in a scene. When Sheldon is being told off, his dad is in front of the camera with his hands on his hips showing he’s annoyed with him about something. Costume The characters costumes show there personality in more detail because it says more about them and what they like. colours The colours/theme shows the era the show was set (late 80s). There are lots of brown/beige in the room and on the characters clothes. Audience appeal- how does it make its audience want to buy/watch/play it? It makes the audience want to watch it because it has humour. People who are interested in The Big Bang Theory will watch it because it shows what Sheldon is like growing up. I chose it because it has characters who will inspire me for my trailer.
  • 21. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? • All the comedies I researched have a strange character which is at the centre of the show. • Most of the comedies include slapstick which makes it entertaining • They all have good plots/storylines. • Some shows include non-diegetic sound (laughter) which has been put in during editing (Fawlty Towers and Allo Allo). Whereas other shows might include a live audience laughing at what's happening (The Big Bang Theory and Mrs Brown’s Boys) • The Big Bang Theory is very fast paced and punchy. • What aspects of the research will you include within your own production work? • I plan on including non-diegetic sound. This will be at various funny points of the trailer. • I’m going to add some slapstick to the trailer. This will make the audience laugh and make them want to watch more. • I want to use an explosion effect in the final scene making the trailer end on a cliff-hanger. This will have an impact on the audience because it will make them wonder what happened, making them want to watch more. • In my script I will try to make it sound fast paced and punchy so the story is told in the right way. This will have an impact on the audience becauseit won’t be boring it, and it will keep them interested.

  • 30. Primary Research Summary I made a survey about What type of comedies do people like (e.g The Big Bang theory), how do they watch it (e.g amazon prime), and what do they like to see in comedy (e.g comedy drama or slapstick or stunts). This helped me with my idea because it made it easier to decide what elements to include. This will help make the video appeal to the target audience because I know more about what they want to see. I’m happy with my results because most of them came back the same. Some came back different than others, but they still showed what most people want to see.
  • 31. Summary of Secondary and Primary Research The primary research was really useful because it let me see what my target audience like about comedy (e.g what elements (slapstick) and kinds of TV shows they like). Doing this helped because I could add elements into the story which people liked the most, making the video entertaining for the audience to watch. The secondary research was useful because after looking at the primary research results, I looked at the shows target audiences. I found this useful because it told me about the audiences in more detail.
  • 32. Subject Research British • British comedy is used on TV, in films, in theatre and on the radio. It’s best known for the strange characters which are the main surround to each plot. Radio comedy Radio comedy has been made mainly by the BBC. A number of British radio comedies achieved considerable renown in the second half of the twentieth century. TV Although most popular comedy shows started on the radio, there has been a lot of successful series on TV (e.g Mrs Brown’s Boys). British comedy normally has six episodes a series, and a series is broadcast once or twice a year. • Most comedies have been made and broadcast on BBC TV and Radio channels. • The most popular British TV comedy is Fawlty Towers.
  • 34. Practical Research • I did an experiment trying to remake a scene from The Big Bang Theory. I filmed the lift door shutting, then added the footage to premiere pro. I found an exploding effect on YouTube, downloaded and added it to premiere pro. I cut the green screen out using key colour and colour tolerance. I moved the colour tolerance up 187 which cut the green screen out completely. If I set it to 255 it distorted the effect. • It would have been better if the effect was at the bottom of the screen because you can see a definite square in the centre of the picture when I cut the green screen down.
  • 35. Practical Research • I filmed the lift doors shutting from the inside because I wanted to see the ‘impact’ from the inside. I downloaded another green screen explosion from YouTube, and found a black starry image on the internet. • I added all footage to premiere pro and cut the green screen out by moving the colour tolerance to 205. I cut the lift noises out by unlinking the sound from the footage. • I’m not happy with the way it finished because there’s a square in the scene when I cut the green screen. I will research how to get the shape out if it’s possible.
  • 36. Practical Research I downloaded two Big Bang Theory scenes from YouTube. I cut the first scene down to the part where Bernadette says she’s pregnant, then cut the season 12 trailer down to Howards funny reaction. I added a reverb so when he shouts ‘NOOOOO!’ for the last time it echo's. I added audio gain by 25db because when it was set to the original reverb, it was too quiet.
  • 37. Practical Research I asked two class mates to be in this experiment. I used the tripod to make the camera steady. I added the footage to premiere pro and cut it down to necessary bits. I added a green screen explosion, and cut it down with Chroma key and turning the colour tolerance up to cut the green screen out. I added a smoke effect for after the explosion. I cut the black background out using colour tolerance, turning it up to 255. I’m happy with this experiment, but the only thing that lets it down is the square where the green screen has been. The flames and smoke only flow within the shape. It would have been better if it could flow across the whole screen making it more effective. The solution is to research how to get rid of that shape, or, shoot the scene to the size and framing of the green screen clip.
  • 38. Practical ResearchI made a DVD front cover experiment. I used the spot removal tool to remove unwanted marks from the actors faces. Then I used the polygon lasso tool to remove the backdrop background. I used the paint bucket to make the background red. I’m happy with the way this experiment went, but for the real thing, I will try adding more effects to make it better.

  • 40. Practical research font I decided to do a font experiment because I want to make a DVD front cover/poster, and wanted to see which fonts stood out, looked appealing and which were easy to read. I used fonts from Photoshop and design fonts from flamingtext.com. I’m happy with this experiment, but it would have been better if I put every font on the experiment poster. This would make it easier to decide which font to use.
