Similarities Between Friends And Friends
Friends is a show that took place from 1994 through 2004 about Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica,
Joey, and Phoebe navigating their lives together by having friendships and romances while spending
much of their time at Central Perk and Monica's apartment. How I Met Your Mother aired from
2005 through 2014 and tells the story of how Ted came to meet his wife with his friend group:
Marshall, Lily, Barney, Robin, and Tracy. The mother of his children, Tracy, is not a character on the
show until the last season as it is the story of how he grew to be the man his children's mother knew.
Friends and How I Met Your Mother are both great sitcoms with undeniable similarities with the
characters and location, but the better show is Friends due its final season.
Friends and How I Met Your Mother have a multitude of similarities that make the shows eerily
similar. The characters seem to be alike with the same traits are Ted and Ross, Marshall and
Chandler, Robin and Rachel, Joey and Barney, Lily and Monica, and Tracy and Phoebe. Ted and
Ross both have intellectual jobs, Ted is an architect and Ross is a paleontologist. At different points
during their career they work as professors for major New York universities. Their respective friend
groups consider them the "nerd" and find that a lot of what is said by them is correcting other
people.
An additional similarity is that both are in love and have unreliable relationships with the charming,
career based woman of their

Friends
Friends is an American sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman and produced by
Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
In 1993 David Crane and Marta Kauffman initially named friends as Insomnia Café. They presented
the project to Bright, and together they purposed it to NBC, which is a commercial TV broadcaster,
this means that this broadcaster is financed by advertisers. Regarding the society issue, Friends
satisfy the need for pluralism, more precisely, it can be watched by different publics (different ages,
tastes, ethnics, genres, etc.)
In 1994, after many changes and updates the sitcom was finally named Friends and aired on ... Show

They live together, share their problems, happiness, successes and failures. Friends was a great
success and this created a strong relation between the broadcaster and the viewers, which in a
certain way pressured the broadcaster to want to continue broadcasting Friends and even offered a
superior amount of money than the revenue from advertising. This strong link allowed the
production of two new seasons, in which the last one had the highest price in television history for a
30–minute series.
Historical, social, cultural, political environment of Friends
Historical environment With the early system modifications many sitcoms and telefilms series
started to be produced in Hollywood. Friends is one of these examples.
Friends portrays the 90s period of the United States in which there were no serious problems. In this
comedy we can see the daily life of the characters and there's no focus on the historical environment.
Social environment
Friends changed sitcoms' rules. Particularly, it changed the narrative environment in a sitcom,
changing the main object, the family, to a friends' group. During all series friends have a strong
impact in each other's lives, the characters don't live with their families, but with each other, and in
some situations the friends become lovers. They spend the thanks giving holiday together, without
their families, which started to become common in

The One with the Three Parts of Freuds Psyche
The One with the Three Parts of Freud's Psyche
According to Sigmund Freud, every human has three parts of their personalities. One part is the id:
the part of a person that is pleasure driven. It is the part of the personality structure that runs on
instinctual desires. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is superego. Superego is the section of
one's personality that is only concerned with others' opinions and must have perfect behavior in
order to please others. Finally there is ego, the reality of one's personality. It is what one actually
does to try to please both extremes of their personality. Though everyone has parts of each within
them, some people have one part of their personality outshine the others. In the tv series "Friends",
directed by Robby Benson, the three parts of the psyche are demonstrated through the three main
characters Chandler, Ross and Joey. Joey Tribbiani represents the id, he lives by the pleasure
principle and is concerned primarily with immediate gratification. Ross clearly corresponds with the
ego and operates on the reality principle. While he certainly likes the same pleasurable things as
Joey, he derives his satisfaction through more realistic long term means. Lastly, Chandler completes
the set representing the superego. He internalizes cultural norms and expectations which realizes the
feeling of guilt or shame. In the episode, "The one with all the Jealousy", it shows Joey, Chandler,
and Ross's freudian characteristics very

Chandler Bing
The show Friends can be recognized and referenced across the country amongst almost every age
group. The show features a group of six friends who face the struggles of dating, friendship, and life
as young adults. One of the most relatable aspects of the show is the dynamic of the friend group. It
seems that everyone can relate to having a friend similar to those on the show. Amongst these six
friends, the "jokester" is Chandler Bing, played by actor Matthew Perry. Chandler was born in 1968,
making him 26 in the pilot episode and 36 in the show's finale. He is the son of erotic novelist Nora
Tyler Bing and cross–dressing burlesque star Charles "Helena Handbasket" Bing. Some of
Chandler's most defining character traits include; sarcastic, commitment–fearing, ... Show more

Chandler's personality may be fun, but his psychological issues hold him back from being his best
self. Chandler shows a fear of commitment, social insecurities around his sexuality, and other issues
revolving around his turbulent childhood. To best explain Chandler's behavior and personality
development, his character can be analyzed through the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator, Carl
Jung's theory on femininity and masculinity, George Kelly's Personal Conduct Theory, and Freud's
Id theory.
Chandler Bing's quick–wit and tendency to play devil's advocate helps to define him as an ENTP
according to the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is based on a self–report
questionnaire which, for obvious reasons, Chandler Bing cannot take himself. I have taken into
consideration Chandler's personality characteristics and character progressions in order to make the
best guess at his personality type. He is extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. The
evidence of Chandler's extroversion can be found in his ability to come up with jokes and sarcastic
comments quickly. This outward thinking that he demonstrates is a tell–tale sign of an extrovert.
Also, the fact that he has lived with roommates for the majority of his adult life

Aristotle's Six Elements Of Drama Essay
In the popular sitcom TV series Friends (1994– 2010), has displayed all of Aristotle's six important
elements throughout the show that were required for the drama. The main plot of the show is
revolving around six best friends living together in Manhattan, and following up with their everyday
personal and professional lives. Throughout the show, all six elements of drama are being taken
place in the modern series showing that regardless of small changes here and there, there are still
connections back to Aristotle's view.
Aristotle's first element is Plot which requires to have the whole, complete, and magnitude. In the
first episode of season 1: The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate, the storyline starts out with
Monica meeting her old high school best friend Rachel. And since Rachel was having some personal
life problems, she ends up moving in with Monica and stays as her best friend till the end of the
show. The whole of the show is Monica and Rachel's relationship from the beginning till the end has
stayed the same. Although eventually Rachel had to move out of Monica's apartment, their
friendship still continued on and is considered to be stronger compared to the beginning of their
meeting. The complete which is also known as the unity of action was displayed because when the
two girls were having problems, both were able to solve and help out each other. They were able to
put each other as their main priority and showing each other the attention they need. And the
magnitude is absolutely present because although it was quite abrupt with Rachel is moving in with
Monica, but as the story went on. Everything was relevant to all the other characters: Chandler, Joey,
Ross, and Phoebe. Which show the whole purpose of the show, friends are meant to stay together till
the end, even though they all had problems with one another at one certain point, but were still able
to move past and have a stronger, inseparable bond throughout the whole sitcom series.
The second element is Character and each of the characters have displayed moral goodness, true to
life, and had a consistent appearance throughout the show. The first character is Monica Geller, who
is known to be the mom of the group. She has always provided

The Writers Of The Television
Since the creation of the television, thousands of sitcoms have been created. Most spend a few years
on the air and are quickly forgotten after they have ended. Very few TV shows paved the way for
what television is today and, after spending ten years on the air, Friends is one of those few. Friends
was so groundbreaking because of its unique writing, its cast chemistry, and its ability to resonate
with the people in its era. Friends consists of six friends, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica, and
Phoebe, living in New York and discovering themselves. The writers of the show were able to do
something extremely rare in television; they created an ensemble cast of six main characters. No one
person played a larger role then the others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writing of the series played a large role in making it so iconic but making it even more iconic
was, perhaps, it's ensemble. The chemistry, or lack there of, between cast members has been the
downfall of many television series, but that was never a problem for Friends. Not only was each
actor perfect for his or her character, but each actor was also perfect for each other. The show
worked best when all six characters were on the screen. If, for example, Joey had a date, it was
rarely shown on screen. Instead, what was shown was the six friends discussing the date after the
fact. Many supporting characters, such as love interests, were written off because it seemed as if
they somehow go in the way. Monica and Chandler both had many love interests and yet, they
ended up marrying each other. All ten seasons consisted of the same cast, and no one ever got tired
of seeing the same six faces on their TV screen. During season one each cast member was making a
different salary but by the end of the season they were negotiating their pay to be equal, which was
unprecedented at the time. The chemistry was so great that it spilled over into their real lives. All six
cast members remain close friends to this day. Jennifer Aniston is the godmother to Courtney Cox's
daughter and while each has gone on to star in other television series, they will still frequently
appear on each other's show.

Comparison Of Friends And The Big Bang Theory
The TV series Friends and The Big Bang Theory are two of my favorites series. The television show
Friends exhibits six main characters, consisting of three males (Ross, Chandler, and Joey) and three
females (Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe). Ross' role is based on his scientific knowledge and the
importance of his values and his passion for his work. However, every time someone does not agree
with him or believes in something else than science, he feels that not only his career but also his
personal identity is challenged. He is stubborn and has a hard time admitting that people have
different points of view. He has been three times married, has a kid with his ex–lesbian wife who
remarried to a woman. Then there is Chandler who at the beginning ... Show more content on

The TV show exhibits seven characters, consisting of four males (Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and

college when he was not even a teenager. He has an obsessive–compulsive personality disorder of
performing specific activities on specific days and at a specific time, any disruption will distress him
enormously. He has a superiority complex and does not hide his contempt for others peoples'
intellects which result in hurtful and inappropriate comments. Leonard is Sheldon's roommate and
unlike Sheldon, he is interested in building interpersonal and social relationships with the rest of the
characters. He comes from a family of well–known and successful people while he is the only one
who has not reached that point in life yet. Howard is the creepy Jewish guy who tries to flirt with
every girl he meets. He still lives with his mother and has a hard time compromising to his religion's
norms. Raj is the foreign member of the crew, he comes from India and considers himself exotic. At
the beginning of the show, he is unable to speak to women, later he finds out he can only talk to
them when he is drunk. Unlike his friends, Raj is perceived as homosexual because of his particular

Number 11 Research Paper
Show business is a tough field, and even the biggest names in Hollywood need to build friendships.
Some of these friendships are fortunate enough to develop into dynamic duos: two people who
mutually support and respect each other without trying to outshine their counterpart. With that in
mind, here are Hollywood's top 10 dynamic duos.
Number Ten: Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev. These girls know how to comfort each other's
broken hearts. After her split with Ryan Seacrest, Nina took Julianne out for a night at a basketball
game. Julianne did the same with Nina when she broke up with her co–star Ian Somerhalder. Always
there to offer their shoulder to one another, these two definitely epitomize best friend goals.
Number Nine: Katy Perry and Rihanna. Not only have they shared the passion in music, but these
two have also bonded over fashion. Katy revealed the story of their friendship that started with a
sparkly Valentino bag. Rihanna also threw an awesome bachelorette party for Katy when she was

Some have labeled Oprah and Gayle one of the most infamous friendships in Hollywood. Winfrey
and King have been friends long before Oprah was a household name. For me, these ladies have one
of the most iconic friendships in showbiz.
Number Seven: Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Although they have feuded and made up a couple
of times, Taylor has been Selena's rock – especially during her extremely public breakup with Justin
Bieber. Not only have these two been friends for a long time, but they also become birthday besties
by throwing surprise parties for each other and their friends.
Number Six: Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts. Both of these Aussie actresses are known for their
perpetually glamorous style on the red carpet. Nicole and Naomi were classmates in high school,
and ever since then the two were always rocking the fashion scene, not to mention killing it with
their critically acclaimed roles in the film

Narrative Essay On Co-Ops
On a cold, Thursday evening, Joey, Monica, Rachel, Ross, and Phoebe are each indulging in a hot
cup of coffee at Central Perk, waiting for their buddy, Chandler, to arrive. "He should be here soon,"
Joey states. "It only takes 97 steps to get here from our apartment. He's had time for at least 85."
Ross rolls his eyes and waves Rachel over so she can refill his coffee cup and take a break from her
tough waitressing job. "You guys actually may want to go ahead and head home," Rachel warns.
"What? Why's that? We don't have anything better to do than nothing, might as well do it here. And
we get free coffee here," Monica explains, lifting her coffee cup for Rachel's attention. As if on cue,

"And, you see, if the co–op ever starts to switch around on you, then you have the power to do
something about it. Once you join, you become a member. Co–ops are kinda like the United States.
You know how we get to choose what goes on because we're citizens? Members of co–ops get that,
too. For example, if you didn't like, I don't know, the glow of your light bulbs, you could tell your
co–op about it!" Ross frowns. "Joey, I don't think complaining about light bulbs would work out,"
Ross tells him, "but from what I understand, co–ops always hear their members out if they have a
meaningful comment. I think that's what Joey means with his United States analogy." "Sounds like a
good deal to me," Phoebe concludes and shrugs her shoulders. "How do I join, though? I don't have
any qualifications, and I'm unemployed." "See, that's the beauty of a co–op!" Joey exclaims.
"Anyone can join!" "Even losers like us?" Chandler asks hopefully. "Yes, even us!" Joey restates.

Monica Geller said the first line of the situation comedy, Friends, which was, "There's nothing to

some comedy. Just as one would expect, Joey Tribbiani continues the plot by adding humor saying,
"Come on! You're going out with the guy. There's got to be something wrong with him." Chandler
Bing continues to add comedy by saying, "All right Joey, be nice. So does he have a hump, a hump
and a hair piece?" Then, with concern in her voice, Phoebe Buffay asks, "Wait, does he eat chalk?

The group of friends encounter many difficulties when trying to be successful in the city, and go
through numerous awkward situations too. The plot of the sitcom Friends is one of the main reasons
that the sitcom lasted a long time. An article titled "5 Generic TV Sitcom Plots That Will Never Die"
claimed that the five generic TV sitcom plots that will never die are working together, when friends
and relatives become involved, pregnancy problems, annoying friends, and when "the one that got

Phoebe and Monica work together in a restaurant. This causes problems for Monica because Phoebe
slows the cooking process down. Monica eventually has to figure out a way to fire Phoebe which
causes tension throughout the sitcom. Tension also arose between Chandler and Joey when Joey
found out that Chandler had kissed on of his sisters. Even more tension came about when Joey
discovered that Chandler did not even know the name of the sister he kissed. Another awkward
situation included in the sitcom is when Ross and Rachel face pregnancy problems. When Rachel

thought he ought to tell him. The previous day, Chandler had simply told Joey he wanted to talk to

didn't question him further. Joey would be at an audition the whole morning, and Chandler felt his

thought he would be able to, but he couldn't. Not after what he had done. He walked past him,
carrying his suitcase. Joey grabbed his wrist and Chandler turned around, still looking at the ground
beneath him. Joey moved closer to him. " Look at me, " he murmured, intertwining their fingers.
Chandler didn't get what was happening. Was this some kind of twisted prank Joey was playing on
him? Slowly, he raised his head and looked at his roommate. They were only inches apart. It
occurred to Chandler how easy it would be to simply lean in and kiss him. " Now close your eyes, "
Joey ordered as softly as before. Chandler frowned a bit, but obeyed. Joey gently placed a hand on
his cheek, making Chandler flinch. He never expected that kind of delicacy from his roommate.
Joey pressed his lips against his. At first, Chandler was taken aback, but relaxed when he felt Joey's

was pressed against the apartment door. Chandler's hands found their way under Joe's shirt,

Episode 'The One With The Butt'
Friends is a TV show follows a gang of six twenty–something year olds (Chandler, Monica, Rachel,

off with crew settling in as they prepare to watch Joey in his new play, Freud!, which is a musical
about Sigmund Freud. In this episode, Chandler briefly dates a woman in a very open relationship,
Joey is hired and fired as the butt double in the new Al Pacino movie, and Monica deals with her
obsessive need for organization. I believe that the disorder that is being portrayed in Monica is
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This anxiety disorder, has a wide spectrum of intensity. It is
persistent, recurring, involuntary thoughts, images, or impulses that invade the consciousness. Some
characteristics of people with this disorder compulsively are checking, counting, cleaning,
organizing, and hoarding (packrats being a lesser version). Monica displays in this episode a chronic
need for organization. I believe that this show accurately portrays Monica's problem and that this

the camera follow both of them, in other word, a dolly shot. Although the shot was fairly shaky, it

just like in a real life situation.
In the next scene, Chandler and Monica then decided to go to the casino, letting the dice decide
whether they will get married or not. While they are walking through the casino, the sound only
focuses on the characters, ambience sound is rarely heard, where in the background, we can see
people talking to one another, a waiter bringing drinks to the customers, and people playing the
machine. At one point, we can hear cash noises from the machine, but even that, the sound is very
small that the audience might not have catch it. When Monica throw the dice to the table, we could
hear the dice rolling on the table clearly, and the worker talking clearly. During this scene, the
director want the audience to focus on the characters movement, not the ambience. The lighting in
this scene is again flat, and they lit the light brighter to the area where the characters are going to be.

Is Friendship Part Of One 's Life?
Is friendship part of one's life? What are the requirements for a friend? Are friends there whenever
one needs him or her? Is there constant communication between friends? How many people
remember the lyrics from that Houdini song? "Friends, how many of us have them? Friends, the
ones you can depend on." The philosopher Aristotle said, "In poverty and other misfortunes of life,
true friends are a sure refuge. They keep the young out of mischief; they comfort and aid the old in
their weakness, and they incite those in the prime of life to noble deeds." In the show F.R.I.E.N.D.S
Rachel Green, Ross Geller, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing and Phoebe Buffay are all
friends, living off of one another in the heart of New York City. Over the course of 8 years, these
average group of friends go through massive mayhem, family trouble, romances, fights, laughs,
tears and surprises as they learn what it really means to be a friend. Therefore the TV show
F.R.I.E.N.D.S represents friendship as dependable, honest, and disclosure.
Being supportive of others in their bad times is a defining quality of a good friend, but being
supportive of others in their good times is also essential. Friends show a true depiction of being

love–hate relationship. Ross is a Paleontologist, with an introverted personality and Monica is a
chef, with a very competitive attitude towards everything, and is also a neat–freak. Then, there's the
open and brutally honest character, Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow). Phoebe is a massage therapist
and an aspiring singer, who would rather live each day to the fullest than have regrets. The fifth
main character is the fashionable, selfish, and confused Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston). Rachel's
job is at Ralph Lauren, and she is heavily dependant on her wealthy father. Finally, there's the actor
Joey Tribbiani (Matt Leblanc), who is a very social and humorous character, who never settles down
in relationships.
These six friends formed a friendship right from the start despite their diverse personalities and
aspirations in life. This has a positive impact on society, by showing that you can be friends with
whoever you want, no matter what, and you shouldn't be characterized to who you should hang out
with. The characters in Friends are constantly hugging and thanking each other, and showing what
true friends are. In fact, Rachel said to her friend Monica, "None of the amazing things that
happened to me in the last 10 years would've happened if it wasn't for you"

Cherokee Indians
The Cherokee Indians were one of the civilized tribes in the United States. They were located in the
southeastern part of the U.S. This includes the western parts of North and South Carolina, The
northern parts of Alabama and Georgia, Southwest Virginia and the Cumberland basin of Tennessee.
It appears the Cherokee settled in 1000 A.D. to 1500 A.D. Their development took place in two
stages or phases. The Pisgah which took place 1300 A.D. to 1540 A.D. and the Qualla which took
place 1540 A.D. to 1750 A.D. The first period was primitive and the second was influenced by

Now she is allowed to marry.
Marriage is looked at as a life long venture. If a man wants to marry a certain woman he has to ask
both his and her parents for their permission. If both parents agree then a priest is told. On the
morning of the ceremony the priest prays asking for a sign as to whether a couple should marry or
not. To get the sign that he is looking for he holds two roots in his hand. If the roots moved together
in his hand then it was O.K for a couple to marry. But if the roots did not move or moved together
and one died then the marriage would be forbidden. When the roots came together with no problem,
the ceremony went on. The priest prayed over the couple and warned them about being unfaithful
because if they did then they would go to a "bad place" when they died.1 Divorce did happen but
was a rare occurrence. All that had to be done was the dividing of blankets. Priests were allowed to
marry but the woman had to be of utmost character. She must be a virgin. She could not be a widow
or divorced. Also this marriage has to be approved by seven counselors. Once a couple is married
then they can focus on having children.
When a woman learns that she is pregnant she tells her husband whom then goes and builds her a
place for her last three months of pregnancy. Men were not allowed to be present at the birth of a
child unless he was a priest who was invited to pray over the mother while she was in

Globalizatons and Cherokees
Globalization has caused extreme change on the Cherokee ways of life, institutions, customs and
traditions. The Cherokee people are incorporating more and more of their past traditions in to their
institutions way of life in a means of trying to preserve them in this every changing world. Once a
culture of people that held high their beliefs and way of life was nearly an extinct culture after the
European, and colonization forced these people out of their land. It is important to see look at the
affects that globalization has on the Cherokee people because looking at this we can see how
globalization affects human dignity both in a positive manner and in a negative manner.
The education institutions that are on the boundary give the Cherokee children the right to self–
fulfillment; it does this by providing them with the right education to go to college or so on if they
wish. The school has incorporated ideas from all over to make sure that their children have the best
possible education that they can get to survive and thrive in the modern world today. Our culture has
played a huge impact on how they view technology. Our culture is constantly obsessing over the
newest and greatest technology, because of this there are tons of jobs in this field. The Cherokee
schools teach children as early as elementary school how to work with different technology to give
them a head start in the culture that surrounds them so that they can keep at a solid pace with us.

Sex refers to the biological distinction between males and females; by contrast, gender concerns the
social differences between males and females. In episode 15 Joey uses pickup lines to try to attract
girls to him which is an example of sex. Also in season 2 episode 4 Rachel rented a movie for the
girls to watch, however Ross does not understand why he is not allowed to join them for movie

Furthermore, the male leads had arguably more respected and higher paying jobs than the female

large multinational corporation. Joey was shown being not as well off financially but was an actor in
a popular daytime soap opera. This is a prime example of how gender plays a vital role in

John Ridge, his father Major Ridge, and his cousin Elias Boudinot were part of the treaty process
that would relocate the Cherokee Nation called, "The Treaty of New Equota". It is evident in the
book that John Ridge was in favor of signing the treaty because he thought that he would be
protecting the rights of the Cherokee people. It becomes clear that the Cherokees are going to be
moving, it was just how they will be moved that made all the difference. The book talks about the
Americans thirst for land and how the gold rush in Georgia would eventually force the Cherokees
out. The story begins with background of John Ridge and how he came to be a factor in the
Cherokee nation. The upbringing of Ridge was an important aspect and where he went to school
also played a role. Ridge's life was assimilated to the white American culture; he even married a
white woman from New England. It's important to know this when you try to understand why he
would sign the treaty. The book focuses on major events happening at the time and how it will affect
the Cherokees and then switches to what will John Ridge do with his own home, like accepting
many white ways, but not accepting Christianity. It also mentions the actions of other nations like
the Creek and Choctaw, and how they reacted to the whites. During the reading, you begin to see

New Beginnings In American TV
New beginnings occur in epic showdowns or with a simple "hello", but with every new beginning is

their emotional confusions, their friendship takes on a new definition: parenting. F.r.i.e.n.d.s was an
iconic 90's American TV series that shaped culture in many ways, but has also deceived society to

Many may disagree on surrogate mothers because the paternal mother does not have the same
connection as a mother whose baby is growing and developing inside her. Some may argue that
Monica could not have kids, but that point can be fought with the choice of adoption. Surrogacy was
supported by a few states and traditional surrogacy in the 1990s was not commonly nor legally
supported. One case in 1990 explains how a surrogate mother wanted to have custody of the child
after admitting she had developed an emotional bondage with the baby. The judge denied her
custody and decided to have the child raised by his genetic parents. The judge thought about the
child's sake; he did not want the boy to grow up with the confusion of having relationships with two
mothers and a father. Judge Parslow stated to the California Legislature that if any surrogate
agreements withstand, the surrogate must understand the "psychological evaluation" she will

Due to Monica believing that her parents only cared for Ross, Monica always felt alone until food
came into the picture. At any moment food was around she would engulf it. For instance, Ross once
said that if he did not eat fast he was not able to eat at all. Additionally, food was a void to keep her
sad emotions in. For example, she had a flashback of when one of her boyfriend's got called into
work after she worked long and hard on a dinner that she prepared for him. Instead of sulking
around, she just began eating. Furthermore, eating was not the only problem that Monica has to deal
with. Similar to her mother, Monica has always had a problem with being a perfectionist. She has
constantly made cleaning a sport and fun activity to spend her time. Sometimes she rather spends
time with her mop and cleaners than hangout with her friends. Also, cleaning does not just end her
perfectionist issue. Organization is the key to Monica. Without her labeler, who knows how Monica
could function the everyday life. When Chandler was looking for a job, she took it in her best
interest to label and file jobs that he could possibly interview for. Chandler asked her why she did
that and her response was so that she could simply use the labeler. Likewise, she is always
concerned about her precious ribbon draw. Out of the blue, she will freak out if she has the slightest
idea that someone could get their hands on it and mess it up. Additionally, she organizes her towels
into 11 categories. Is that not 10 more than needed? Furthermore, one specific rule that Monica has
is that everything needs to be in place where it was before and by that it cannot move a millimeter
without her noticing a change in the room. For example, when Rachel moved in with Monica, she
decided to clean the apartment for her; it did not go that great. Rachel thought that moving the

idea was already out by that time due to all the psychic mediums who were able to communicate

Yes, it is a sitcom so the main focus is to bring laughter to the viewers. However, if it want to stick

Phoebe saying goodbye to her triplets, Ross and Rachel's breakup, to the final goodbye between the
gang. The most touching and memorable scene for me would be when Monica and Chandler found
out they cannot have a baby. It all started when Rachel was giving birth to her child that the two

Chandler and Monica decided to go get themselves tested and see what's wrong. What follow was

Heteronormativity In Nbc's Friends
NBC's hit show Friends has become one of the most–watched and highly acclaimed sitcoms of all
time. Instead of revolving around family and work, like prior sitcoms such as Family Matters and
Full House, Friends changed it up and revolutionized the sitcom landscape by featuring six 20–30–
year old friends living in the New York City borough of Manhattan as they attempt to discover
themselves. From the constant change of careers, whether it was getting laid off or promoted, to
going from relying on their parents to being completely on their own, Friends is able to relate to so
many and remains the show that captures the age group of 10–20 almost perfectly. Although Friends
has been around for nearly two decades, it has recently risen to prominence ... Show more content

Compulsory heterosexuality refers to the idea that women and men are innately attracted to each
other emotionally and sexually and that heterosexuality is normal and universal (Rich, 1). I have
evaluated two episodes of Friends that display this phenomenon in which the main characters
assume that heterosexuality is the norm, which often leads to prejudice and stereotyping. Through
these assumptions based off of compulsory heterosexuality, Friends displays evident
heteronormativity. The first example of compulsory heterosexuality occurs in the pilot episode of
the series. In the beginning of this episode, Ross, one of the main male characters, is seen
complaining about his divorce as the rest of his friends try to comfort him with jokes and sympathy.
Eventually, Ross questions the group by asking "What if there's only one woman for everybody,
y'know? I mean what if you get one woman– and that's it?" ("The One Where Rachel Gets A

Chandler: A Fictional Narrative
He grabbed his hands in his and kissed them. " Eeeh, look at me, Joe, " he asked, keeping his voice
down. Joey liked it when Chandler did that. It made his voice sound softer. His eyes filled with tears
when he realized this might be the last time Chandler talked to him that way. Or talked to him at all.
Joey looked down at him. " I don't know what upset you like that, but I'm here for you. I'm not going
anywhere, " he smiled softly. Chandler then stood, letting go of Joey's hands, and sat on the bed, his
back against the bedhead. Joey joined him by sitting between his legs so his back was pressed
against Chandler's chest. " Did you know Mr. Treeger wanted to evict the girls ? " Joey finally said.
His voice ( almost ) sounded foreign

Similarities Between Friends And Friends Friends is a show that took place from 1994 through 2004 about Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Joey, and Phoebe navigating their lives together by having friendships and romances while spending much of their time at Central Perk and Monica's apartment. How I Met Your Mother aired from 2005 through 2014 and tells the story of how Ted came to meet his wife with his friend group: Marshall, Lily, Barney, Robin, and Tracy. The mother of his children, Tracy, is not a character on the show until the last season as it is the story of how he grew to be the man his children's mother knew. Friends and How I Met Your Mother are both great sitcoms with undeniable similarities with the characters and location, but the better show is Friends due its final season. Friends and How I Met Your Mother have a multitude of similarities that make the shows eerily similar. The characters seem to be alike with the same traits are Ted and Ross, Marshall and Chandler, Robin and Rachel, Joey and Barney, Lily and Monica, and Tracy and Phoebe. Ted and Ross both have intellectual jobs, Ted is an architect and Ross is a paleontologist. At different points during their career they work as professors for major New York universities. Their respective friend groups consider them the "nerd" and find that a lot of what is said by them is correcting other people. An additional similarity is that both are in love and have unreliable relationships with the charming, career based woman of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Visual Cultures Essay Milano 2010 Table of Contents: Friends Friends is an American sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman and produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. In 1993 David Crane and Marta Kauffman initially named friends as Insomnia Café. They presented the project to Bright, and together they purposed it to NBC, which is a commercial TV broadcaster, this means that this broadcaster is financed by advertisers. Regarding the society issue, Friends satisfy the need for pluralism, more precisely, it can be watched by different publics (different ages, tastes, ethnics, genres, etc.) In 1994, after many changes and updates the sitcom was finally named Friends and aired on ... Friends was a great success and this created a strong relation between the broadcaster and the viewers, which in a certain way pressured the broadcaster to want to continue broadcasting Friends and even offered a superior amount of money than the revenue from advertising. This strong link allowed the production of two new seasons, in which the last one had the highest price in television history for a 30–minute series. Historical, social, cultural, political environment of Friends Historical environment With the early system modifications many sitcoms and telefilms series started to be produced in Hollywood. Friends is one of these examples. Friends portrays the 90s period of the United States in which there were no serious problems. In this comedy we can see the daily life of the characters and there's no focus on the historical environment. Social environment Friends changed sitcoms' rules. Particularly, it changed the narrative environment in a sitcom, changing the main object, the family, to a friends' group. During all series friends have a strong impact in each other's lives, the characters don't live with their families, but with each other, and in some situations the friends become lovers. • 14. The One with the Three Parts of Freuds Psyche The One with the Three Parts of Freud's Psyche According to Sigmund Freud, every human has three parts of their personalities. One part is the id: the part of a person that is pleasure driven. It is the part of the personality structure that runs on instinctual desires. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is superego. Superego is the section of one's personality that is only concerned with others' opinions and must have perfect behavior in order to please others. Finally there is ego, the reality of one's personality. It is what one actually does to try to please both extremes of their personality. Though everyone has parts of each within them, some people have one part of their personality outshine the others. In the tv series "Friends", directed by Robby Benson, the three parts of the psyche are demonstrated through the three main characters Chandler, Ross and Joey. Joey Tribbiani represents the id, he lives by the pleasure principle and is concerned primarily with immediate gratification. Ross clearly corresponds with the ego and operates on the reality principle. While he certainly likes the same pleasurable things as Joey, he derives his satisfaction through more realistic long term means. Lastly, Chandler completes the set representing the superego. He internalizes cultural norms and expectations which realizes the feeling of guilt or shame. In the episode, "The one with all the Jealousy", it shows Joey, Chandler, and Ross's freudian characteristics very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The show features a group of six friends who face the struggles of dating, friendship, and life as young adults. One of the most relatable aspects of the show is the dynamic of the friend group. It seems that everyone can relate to having a friend similar to those on the show. Amongst these six friends, the "jokester" is Chandler Bing, played by actor Matthew Perry. Chandler was born in 1968, making him 26 in the pilot episode and 36 in the show's finale. He is the son of erotic novelist Nora Tyler Bing and cross–dressing burlesque star Charles "Helena Handbasket" Bing. Some of Chandler's most defining character traits include; sarcastic, commitment–fearing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chandler's personality may be fun, but his psychological issues hold him back from being his best self. Chandler shows a fear of commitment, social insecurities around his sexuality, and other issues revolving around his turbulent childhood. To best explain Chandler's behavior and personality development, his character can be analyzed through the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator, Carl Jung's theory on femininity and masculinity, George Kelly's Personal Conduct Theory, and Freud's Id theory. Chandler Bing's quick–wit and tendency to play devil's advocate helps to define him as an ENTP according to the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is based on a self–report questionnaire which, for obvious reasons, Chandler Bing cannot take himself. I have taken into consideration Chandler's personality characteristics and character progressions in order to make the best guess at his personality type. He is extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. The evidence of Chandler's extroversion can be found in his ability to come up with jokes and sarcastic comments quickly. This outward thinking that he demonstrates is a tell–tale sign of an extrovert. Also, the fact that he has lived with roommates for the majority of his adult life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aristotle's Six Elements Of Drama Essay In the popular sitcom TV series Friends (1994– 2010), has displayed all of Aristotle's six important elements throughout the show that were required for the drama. Very few TV shows paved the way for what television is today and, after spending ten years on the air, Friends is one of those few. Friends was so groundbreaking because of its unique writing, its cast chemistry, and its ability to resonate with the people in its era. Friends consists of six friends, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe, living in New York and discovering themselves. The writers of the show were able to do something extremely rare in television; they created an ensemble cast of six main characters. No one person played a larger role then the others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The writing of the series played a large role in making it so iconic but making it even more iconic was, perhaps, it's ensemble. The chemistry, or lack there of, between cast members has been the downfall of many television series, but that was never a problem for Friends. Not only was each actor perfect for his or her character, but each actor was also perfect for each other. The show worked best when all six characters were on the screen. If, for example, Joey had a date, it was rarely shown on screen. Instead, what was shown was the six friends discussing the date after the fact. Many supporting characters, such as love interests, were written off because it seemed as if they somehow go in the way. Monica and Chandler both had many love interests and yet, they ended up marrying each other. All ten seasons consisted of the same cast, and no one ever got tired of seeing the same six faces on their TV screen. During season one each cast member was making a different salary but by the end of the season they were negotiating their pay to be equal, which was unprecedented at the time. The chemistry was so great that it spilled over into their real lives. All six cast members remain close friends to this day. Jennifer Aniston is the godmother to Courtney Cox's daughter and while each has gone on to star in other television series, they will still frequently appear on each other's show. ... The television show Friends exhibits six main characters, consisting of three males (Ross, Chandler, and Joey) and three females (Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe). Ross' role is based on his scientific knowledge and the importance of his values and his passion for his work. However, every time someone does not agree with him or believes in something else than science, he feels that not only his career but also his personal identity is challenged. The TV show exhibits seven characters, consisting of four males (Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj) and three females (Penny, Bernadette, and Amy). Sheldon is the child prodigy who started college when he was not even a teenager. He has an obsessive–compulsive personality disorder of performing specific activities on specific days and at a specific time, any disruption will distress him enormously. He has a superiority complex and does not hide his contempt for others peoples' intellects which result in hurtful and inappropriate comments. Leonard is Sheldon's roommate and unlike Sheldon, he is interested in building interpersonal and social relationships with the rest of the characters. He comes from a family of well–known and successful people while he is the only one who has not reached that point in life yet. Howard is the creepy Jewish guy who tries to flirt with every girl he meets. He still lives with his mother and has a hard time compromising to his religion's norms. "And, you see, if the co–op ever starts to switch around on you, then you have the power to do something about it. Once you join, you become a member. Co–ops are kinda like the United States. You know how we get to choose what goes on because we're citizens? Members of co–ops get that, too. I think that's what Joey means with his United States analogy." "Sounds like a good deal to me," Phoebe concludes and shrugs her shoulders. "How do I join, though? I don't have any qualifications, and I'm unemployed." "See, that's the beauty of a co–op!" Joey exclaims. "Anyone can join!" "Even losers like us?" Chandler asks hopefully. "Yes, even us!" It becomes clear that the Cherokees are going to be moving, it was just how they will be moved that made all the difference. The book talks about the Americans thirst for land and how the gold rush in Georgia would eventually force the Cherokees out. The story begins with background of John Ridge and how he came to be a factor in the Cherokee nation. The upbringing of Ridge was an important aspect and where he went to school also played a role. Ridge's life was assimilated to the white American culture; he even married a white woman from New England. It's important to know this when you try to understand why he would sign the treaty. The book focuses on major events happening at the time and how it will affect the Cherokees and then switches to what will John Ridge do with his own home, like accepting many white ways, but not accepting Christianity. It also mentions the actions of other nations like the Creek and Choctaw, and how they reacted to the whites. During the reading, you begin to see that the Cherokees ... Some may argue that Monica could not have kids, but that point can be fought with the choice of adoption. Surrogacy was supported by a few states and traditional surrogacy in the 1990s was not commonly nor legally supported. One case in 1990 explains how a surrogate mother wanted to have custody of the child after admitting she had developed an emotional bondage with the baby. The judge denied her custody and decided to have the child raised by his genetic parents. The judge thought about the child's sake; he did not want the boy to grow up with the confusion of having relationships with two mothers and a father. Judge Parslow stated to the California Legislature that if any surrogate agreements withstand, the surrogate must understand the "psychological evaluation" she will undergo. Due to Monica believing that her parents only cared for Ross, Monica always felt alone until food came into the picture. At any moment food was around she would engulf it. For instance, Ross once said that if he did not eat fast he was not able to eat at all. Additionally, food was a void to keep her sad emotions in. For example, she had a flashback of when one of her boyfriend's got called into work after she worked long and hard on a dinner that she prepared for him. Instead of sulking around, she just began eating. Furthermore, eating was not the only problem that Monica has to deal with. Similar to her mother, Monica has always had a problem with being a perfectionist. She has constantly made cleaning a sport and fun activity to spend her time. Sometimes she rather spends time with her mop and cleaners than hangout with her friends. Also, cleaning does not just end her perfectionist issue. Organization is the key to Monica. Without her labeler, who knows how Monica could function the everyday life. When Chandler was looking for a job, she took it in her best interest to label and file jobs that he could possibly interview for. Chandler asked her why she did that and her response was so that she could simply use the labeler. Likewise, she is always concerned about her precious ribbon draw. Charles and Jean are two very power mutants with extraordinary mind powers allowing them to read minds and levitate objects. While some instances of mind over matter might be like that others tend to be much simpler than that. The idea of telekinesis came to be around the late 1800s, when the ability to move objects became more involved with sciences. The idea was already out by that time due to all the psychic mediums who were able to communicate with ghosts, asking them to move the objects with their powers (Radford Benjamin). Wolfgang Messing was one of Russia's most famous psychics of his time told his story of how his powers ended up saving his life. Messing was a Jewish man born in Poland in 1899 who first discovered his powers when he was eleven. When he was eleven he ran away from his home to Berlin by train, the reason he ran away is unknown. He boarded this train without a ticket knowing that people riding a train without a ticket could be severely punished. When the officer approached Messing asking for a ticket, Messing gave him a piece of newspaper envisioning it to be a ticket. There are so many moments to choose from, ranging from Phoebe saying goodbye to her triplets, Ross and Rachel's breakup, to the final goodbye between the gang. Aristotle's Six Elements Of Drama Essay In the popular sitcom TV series Friends (1994– 2010), has displayed all of Aristotle's six important elements throughout the show that were required for the drama. The main plot of the show is revolving around six best friends living together in Manhattan, and following up with their everyday personal and professional lives. Throughout the show, all six elements of drama are being taken place in the modern series showing that regardless of small changes here and there, there are still connections back to Aristotle's view. Aristotle's first element is Plot which requires to have the whole, complete, and magnitude. In the first episode of season 1: The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate, the storyline starts out with Monica meeting her old high school best friend Rachel. And since Rachel was having some personal life problems, she ends up moving in with Monica and stays as her best friend till the end of the show. The whole of the show is Monica and Rachel's relationship from the beginning till the end has stayed the same. Although eventually Rachel had to move out of Monica's apartment, their friendship still continued on and is considered to be stronger compared to the beginning of their meeting. The complete which is also known as the unity of action was displayed because when the two girls were having problems, both were able to solve and help out each other. They were able to put each other as their main priority and showing each other the attention they need. And the magnitude is absolutely present because although it was quite abrupt with Rachel is moving in with Monica, but as the story went on. Everything was relevant to all the other characters: Chandler, Joey, Ross, and Phoebe. Which show the whole purpose of the show, friends are meant to stay together till the end, even though they all had problems with one another at one certain point, but were still able to move past and have a stronger, inseparable bond throughout the whole sitcom series. The second element is Character and each of the characters have displayed moral goodness, true to life, and had a consistent appearance throughout the show.
