2. IMAGINARY FRIEND
Imaginary friends are a
psychological and social
phenomenon where a
friendship or other
interpersonal relationship
takes place in the
imagination rather than
external physical reality.
3. DROP DEAD FRED
This movie starts out with a little girl
(Elizabeth) playing with her imaginary
friend “drop dead Fred” causing all kinds
of trouble because the lack of attention
she was getting from her family and her
over bearing mother. Fred causes chaos
around the house and neighborhood.
When she grows up, she has an
emotional crisis in her life and drop-dead
Fred comes back into her life to “cheer her
up” as he did when she was a child.
4. THE BEGINNING
When Lizzy ends up starting
her day off bad by losing her
house, her car, wallet and
husband she starts going
through some mental issues
and ends up having to move
in with her parents while
she's going through her
divorce. While she's in her
old bedroom she finds the
box Drop Dead Fred was last
“put” and when she opens it,
he comes back into her life,
unexpectedly.
5. LINKING OLD
HABITS
When people go through tough times
it seems like a lot of people go back to
an old habit or a form of something
that was a stress reliver. In Lizzy's case
it was her imaginary friend “outlet” she
grew up with only herself and Fred.
Although Fred was fun in her younger
age, she's trying to find a job and work
on her life and he's causing
disruptions instead of helping.
6. TRAUMA
When Lizzy was a young girl, she did not
have any other friends except for Fred,
having a very distant mother she was
mostly alone and made a friend to help
her not be so alone, although he did do
things, she was the only one that could
see him. She went to him for comfort and
stability when she got in trouble. He
always brought a smile to her face.
7. COPING
At the beginning of the
movie Lizzy walks into a
court room late explaining
how she just lost all her
belongings and her husband
wants a divorce. When Fred
arrives back into her life, she
does not want him around
anymore because all he is
doing is causing trouble
while she is on the process
of getting her life back
together.
8. EXPLANATION
Later in the show when she is still a little girl it shoes Fred and
Lizzy “playing together” except everything they were doing they
were destroying things around the house; I think it was her way of
trying to get attention from her family because at the time all she
had way Fred.
10. THE
PSYCHOLOGY
BEHIND IT
I think everyone has their own ways of coping with
stress, anxiety and depression including going back
to old habits. People do not like being out of their
comfort zone, sometime people act out in their
coping ways.
