2. Process
โข Before working on this project I
had little to no experience in pixel
art and so that made this project
quite a challenge for me. Due to
this I had top keep my ideas basic
so that I would be able to create
them in Photoshop. However I
was able to use my limited
knowledge of photoshop to create
a backdrop that didnโt consist of
pixel art. I used the brush and
blending tools with a variety of
dark colours to create a night sky
effect. Adding dark blues to
purples gave my animation a
slightly sinister tone which is what
I was I aiming for.
3. Process
โข To give the game a more
realistic feel I added multiple
accessible areas into my
animation. The character on
screen is seen entering a shop
where they are able to
purchase equipment to aid
them in their journey. This was
incredibly easy to do without
animating the character
actually entering the building. I
knew I wouldnโt be able to
animate something as complex
so instead I faded the screen to
black. After that I faded back
to where the character was
already in the store talking to
the vendor.
4. Process
โข One of the challenges I found the
toughest was creating a walk cycle
for my characters. However after
some research I found a fairly
basic way of completing this task. I
had to copy a basic 4 stage walk
cycle off of the internet but it
helped my production out loads.
Due to the walk cycle only having
4 stages it doesnโt look the most
professional however I believed
that it was good enough for my
purpose. Having something that I
wasnโt looking forward to doing
made simple helped me focus on
other parts of my production to
make it the best I could.
5. Process
โข The single most biggest
challenge that I had to face
was creating my characters.
Because I had no experience in
pixel art I found this really
difficult and couldnโt decide
how I would tackle the
challenge. However after a
while I was able to create
multiple characters that looked
semi-professional and all
followed a similar art style.
This made my production look
a lot more professional as all
the characters looked different
whilst also maintaining the
same art style.
6. Process
โข The final challenge that I had to
face was creating an original piece
of music to lay over the top of my
animation. The theme of my game
revolved around street culture and
a heavy influence in that culture is
hip-hop/rap music. Because of this
I knew I would have to make a
beat that fit this genre. Luckily the
music I would be creating is music
that I personally listen to so it
made it easier to understand what
I was doing. I created my original
music piece using FL studio using
the stock plugins that come with
the software. This was a challenge
at first but once I got used to the
software and looked at some
tutorials I found it to be quite
entertaining.
