3. Elements of Democracy
• Rule of law
• Lawful opposition
• Freedom of the press
• Checks and balances
4. Salient Points when Philippine Democracy
was restored
• The 1987 Constitution restored pre-martial
law
• Marcos tried to restore economic stability
• EDSA revolution toppled down the authorarian
presidency of Marcos.
• Massive monopoly are still not prevented
despite of the restoration of democracy/
5. Negative Points
• Philippine democratic institutions have
always been controlled by the political
and economic elite
• There a.re little to no incentives for
genuine democratic principles and
values to be upheld.
6. Is Democracy good or bad?
• For me it is bad, because there a risk of voting a
wrong public servants. Truth be told, not all people
are aware of the political and social dynamics in
their country under a democratic regime. The
plurality wins in a democratic system, and there is
little difference between the ballots cast by the
literate and the illiterate. Based on other variables
other than pure and necessary ability, people can
prefer a candidate. Taking these things into account,
the elected official could not always be the right
person for the seat, resulting in incorrect choices.
