Nation and State are two similar and
sometimes interchangeable yet different
concepts in political science.
• State is a type of polity that is an organized political
community living under a single system of
government and may or may not be sovereign.
• A Nation (from Latin: natio, "people, tribe, kin, genus,
class, flock") is a large group or collective of people
with common characteristics attributed to them -
including language, traditions, mores (customs), habitus
(habits), and ethnicity.

a type of state that joins the political
entity of a state to the cultural entity of
a nation, from which it aims to derive
its political legitimacy to rule and
potentially its status as a sovereign state if
one accepts the declarative theory of
statehood as opposed to the constitutive
theory.
