1. Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
My idea is a 5 min documentary illustratingwhat
creative individualsin a small towndo andhow
they feel living there affects it.
Why have youdecided to makeit? I want to makethis as my passionis creating, and
the people aroundme do the same. I want the aim
of how the small-town situation effects creatives to
adda meaningto the doc insteadof simply
documentingwhat'sgoing on. I believe my subjects
are challenging the stereotypicalnormsthat come
with living here andI have personally just foundit
very interestingfor a while, andI haveso muchto
say on the subject. I also really want toinspire
othersin small townswho want totry an industry
thatlacks in their area, as I feel when I decided I
wanted to dothis typeof thing that somethinglike
this wouldhave given me sucha confidence boost.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
As I have sucha strongpassionfor creating music,
art and fashionandhave donefor years. Over these
years I havemade certain achievements and
connectionsthatI have always wantedto present
in some way. This is an ideal format todo so. As I
made these achievements, I have begunto
appreciate the others doingthe same thingsas me
a lot. Variouspeople have helped me with various
projects andto be able to thank themby doing this
documentary onthemis somethingI would love to
do.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paper-based
activity)
The main influences are the people aroundme who
I want to makethe doc on. I see these peopledoing
their thing andit really inspires me to gather it into
one place to show others what's goingon. Small
townsand onesin the northespecially are heavily
underrepresentedwhen it comes to urbancreative
topics suchas rave music, graffiti and
skateboardingetc. This is why I am soinfluenced by
simply the people aroundme as there isn't a huge
lot else like me to look at. I think this will come as
an advantage. Outerinfluences include a
compilationof videotypes, notnecessarily
documentariesbutcontent thatrelates tothe type
of thing my subjects create, such as graffiti edit
videosand skateedits. The style I want togo for
2. will be an overall compilation of stylesfrom early
2000sgrimevideossuch as BBK and documentary
style edit videossuch as 1upgraffiti edits.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want to inspire youthwhofeel constraintsfrom
the area they live and showthat it doesn’tmatter
aboutthe resources aroundyouthatyoucan still
live the life youwant too. I also want todeter
people from lives of crime, with the younger
generation thatis often challenging which is why I
use creative outlooksthatrelate to themto inspire.
All kidslike rap andoften rappers voice their
previouslives as a criminal, I really want my music
section to showthis as an optionfor somepeople.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
I want the moodtobe heavily meaningful and
inspirational. I will use an overall script which
speaksvery relaxed yet really showsthe
importance, tryingto emphasiseeach sectionof
the doc to suchan extent anyonewould be
inspired. I also want it to be casual, sortof like
you're outwith the lads in the scene. The script will
also incorporatesort of chat elements and
rhetorical questionsandsmall anecdotes / jokes.
The overall tone will be friendly, yet with an
underlyingmessage thathas slightaggression, the
cliché we do whatwe want and don’tcare who
doesn’tlike it sort of thing. I want the audio to
switch from music to script tolive videodialogue all
the time. It will just be a continuous flow of
material and when needed the videosaudiowill
rise andetc.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
As this style is what I makeanyway. I havemade
music videosandshort films thatwill use the same
style elements. Videos in this style are distinctive
andspecific. This is another motivationasI want it
to be authentic. I want the originality tocome from
the small-town context element and the video style
for relatability.
