The pitch
Genre
• Indie/alternative
Reasons behind my decision:
Both the rock and indie/alternative categories had the highest
majority of votes in the respondents 1st, 2nd, and 3rd favourite
music genres. Rock was chosen more for the 1st favourite
music genre but indie/alternative was not chosen as one
respondents least favourite music genre, unlike rock.
I also believe that there are not enough indie/alternative
based music magazines, and feel it would be refreshing to see
a new music magazine of a different music genre in the
market.
The working title
Possible title names for my music magazine:
• Wave
• Tide
• Pause
• Record
• Stream
• The cut
The final working title:
The choices I came up with all resembled with the
beat of music or how music is made.
I decided to chose the title ‘Wave’.
I chose this title because first of all it represents the
music, and the rhythm in which it is delivered, as it
flows in waves. It also represents the genre of music
in this magazine too. Unlike pop or rock, indie and
alternative music can feel a lot more relaxing and
calm, and this magazine presents that different type
of music.
Cover price
• The price of my music magazine is going to be £3.
• I have chosen this price because I wanted a fair price that was
affordable to a younger audience. The majority of the survey
respondents were between the age of 16 and 20, and the
majority of these votes were for the £0-£3 category,
suggesting that younger people are not willing to pay a lot of
money on music magazines because they simply can not
afford it. I did chose the price towards the top end of that
category though, because I also wanted the price to be high
enough to ensure a top quality music magazine, filled with
content and worth the money.
Reader profile
• The typical ‘Wave’ reader is between the age of 15 and 30.
• The gender of the reader is not specified, as this magazine is not aimed at a
specific gender, just men and women that enjoy the specific genre of music!
• The typical ‘Wave’ reader is relaxed and bubbly, but can quickly turn from chilled
out to the life of the party! After a busy day, their perfect night would either be
listening to music and winding down at home, or out and about at a gig or a dive
bar with friends. A ‘Wave’ reader loves to socialize and drag their friends to music
events and is always eager to check out new bands or latest news. Always relating
to the music they listen to, music helps these readers through the day, and they
always find time to listen to their favourite bands.
Frequency of publication
• ‘Wave’ magazine is going to be published on a monthly basis.
• I decided it was suitable to publish the magazine on a monthly
basis due to content reasons. As this magazine is based around
the genre of indie and alternative music, and may be
considered as less of a popular music genre, news about this
genre of music may not be published as much, or as easily
accessible. A monthly basis of publication means that it gives
enough time to build up the content in the magazine so that
when it is delivered to the reader it is bursting with music
news and has had time to collect up other interesting contents
like new bands and tours that are coming up in the next
month.
Mission statement
• The ‘Wave’s’ mission is to bring a fresh, new outlook on music to young
people that enjoy different sounds. Unlike most other music magazines
that you will see on the shelves, this magazine explores the new varieties
of music that may not usually be presented the way it should be and as
much as it should be. I believe that indie and alternative sounds do not get
enough spotlight, which may lead to young people under-estimating the
power of music which isn’t the typical pop. Bringing ease to the difficulty
of finding new and exciting artists and bands, the ‘Wave’ offers a wide
range of alternative sounds to suit a wide range of ages. We also
understand the importance of music, and how people rely on music in
different ways. When music is always the centre in your life, we believe
subscribers should get more out of their magazine. Subscribing to the
‘Wave’ magazine gives you an opportunity to pay only £2.70 a month,
along side receiving music related discounts and prizes, like concerts,
clothing and CD’S.
Style sheet
• WAVE - This is the font that I used as my masthead and most other text. I chose
this font as it is simplistic and neat, and suited the style of my magazine. This font
is thick enough and easy to read unlike other fonts that I looked at, that may be
too thin. Other fonts that I liked and thought were appropriate for the genre of the
magazine I thought may be too messy, making the font harder to read and
affecting the sleek look I want for my magazine.

• WAVE
For some of the larger cover lines in the magazine, I would
choose a louder font, for example the second on this page. This is
to add drama to the article and create an interpretation for the
reader before they have actually read it. I would also use a font
like this when drawing attention to a certain part of text, for
example, enlarging a quote from an interview. For smaller text, I
would choose one of the more simplistic fonts as it keeps it easy
to read, whilst keeping the text looking sleek and professional.
Colour schemes
I decided to use this white, black and neutral
colour scheme, which includes darks and
pastel colours. I like this colour scheme and
feel like it fits well with the style and genre of
my magazine as it is quite relaxed and simple.
This colour scheme is non-gender specific and
is appealing to my target audience, whilst the
colour scheme is professional yet calm.

As this magazine is based around the genre of indie and alternative music, and may be considered as less of a popular music genre, news about this genre of music may not be published as much, or as easily accessible. A monthly basis of publication means that it gives enough time to build up the content in the magazine so that when it is delivered to the reader it is bursting with music news and has had time to collect up other interesting contents like new bands and tours that are coming up in the next month.
  • 7. Mission statement • The ‘Wave’s’ mission is to bring a fresh, new outlook on music to young people that enjoy different sounds. Unlike most other music magazines that you will see on the shelves, this magazine explores the new varieties of music that may not usually be presented the way it should be and as much as it should be. I believe that indie and alternative sounds do not get enough spotlight, which may lead to young people under-estimating the power of music which isn’t the typical pop. Bringing ease to the difficulty of finding new and exciting artists and bands, the ‘Wave’ offers a wide range of alternative sounds to suit a wide range of ages. We also understand the importance of music, and how people rely on music in different ways. When music is always the centre in your life, we believe subscribers should get more out of their magazine.   • 8. Style sheet • WAVE - This is the font that I used as my masthead and most other text. I chose this font as it is simplistic and neat, and suited the style of my magazine. This font is thick enough and easy to read unlike other fonts that I looked at, that may be too thin. Other fonts that I liked and thought were appropriate for the genre of the magazine I thought may be too messy, making the font harder to read and affecting the sleek look I want for my magazine. • WAVE • WAVE • WAVE • WAVE For some of the larger cover lines in the magazine, I would choose a louder font, for example the second on this page. This is to add drama to the article and create an interpretation for the reader before they have actually read it. I would also use a font like this when drawing attention to a certain part of text, for example, enlarging a quote from an interview. For smaller text, I would choose one of the more simplistic fonts as it keeps it easy to read, whilst keeping the text looking sleek and professional.
  • 9. Colour schemes I decided to use this white, black and neutral colour scheme, which includes darks and pastel colours. I like this colour scheme and feel like it fits well with the style and genre of my magazine as it is quite relaxed and simple. This colour scheme is non-gender specific and is appealing to my target audience, whilst the colour scheme is professional yet calm.
