Overview
Mr. Marphis has over 30 years of experience in the Oil and Gas, Electric
Utility and Power Generation industries, performing detailed electrical
design tasks required for the preparation of construction packages.
His work involves researching of vendor data, creating and/or updating
switchgear and motor control one-line diagrams, motor schematics &
wiring diagrams, cable & conduit schedules, panel schedules, power
plans, cable tray plans, lighting plans, grounding plans, heat trace plans
and area classification plans as well as creating the required installation
details and BOMs for construction packages.
He is also experienced with instrumentation interconnecting wiring
diagrams and loop drawings and routing of instrumentation cables from
field instruments to instrumentation junction boxes, marshalling cabinets
and PLC cabinets.
His field experiences enables him to gather information during field walk
downs with clients prior to the design phase of a project as well as
providing onsite support during construction and commissioning.
He also has 12 years of experience in the electric utility industry which
includes transmission line upgrades, high voltage substation and
switchyard design and upgrades, fossil fuel power plant projects and
nuclear power plant projects.
He is very proficient in the use of AutoCAD versions 2011, 2014, 2015,
Raster Cad, 3D modeling software, Microstation V8.i and Thermon
Electric Heat Tracing Design software.

URS/AECOM, New Orleans, LA, Lead Electrical Designer, 2015–Present
Worked closely with engineers, designers, drafters, other disciplines and project managers to create and
issue complete electrical construction drawing packages. Specific major clients and projects included:
Lead Electrical Designer, Mt. Belvieu, TX, Enterprise Products: Assisted engineering with design
of refinery’s electrical distribution system powering multiple new units consisting of over 20 motors
and Electrical Control Buildings with 5kV Switchgear, 5kV VFD’s, 480V MCC’s. Design U/G duct
banks, cable tray layouts, substation-type transformers locations, and heat tracing. Coordinated
design work with other disciplines for placement of electrical equipment into overall site 3D model.
Incorporated design into AutoCAD drawings.
Lead Electrical Designer, Belle Chasse, LA, Phillips 66 Alliance: Assisted Engineering with
design of refinery’s electrical distribution system powering new product dock including: normal power
and emergency power system designs, modification of 5kV Switchgear and 480VMCC equipment.
Design of cable tray systems, new lighting layouts, and design power feeds in duck bank to
substation-type transformers. Coordinated design work with other disciplines for placement of
electrical equipment into overall site 3D model. Incorporated design into AutoCAD drawings.
Lead Electrical Designer, Bruce Mansfield, PA- Dewatering Project, Coal Power Plant, First
Energy: Assist other lead designer and engineer to bring in the main feeders to the Dewatering
System from two different power plant units for redundancy. Aided with design installation of three
new transformers to support the conveyors, dewatering facility and loading dock. Revised wiring and
schematic diagrams and conveyors systems. Design duct bank, cable bus, and bus duct. Also,
located proper location of new panels, motors, motor starters and transformers. Incorporated design
into AutoCAD drawings.

Worked on the Chesapeake Energy Green Field Compressor Facilities. Developed construction
packages for two large green field compressor facilities which included Area Classification plans,
equipment location layouts, cable tray plans, one-line diagrams, motor schematics, duct bank layouts,
grounding, lighting, power and heat tracing plans and all details and sections as required to develop
complete deliverable construction package.
Independent Contractor, New Orleans, LA, Lead Electrical Designer, 2010–2010
Contracted to Entergy at the Nine Mile Fossil Power Plant to provide services as a senior electrical
designer. I provided support for the migration of all controls for that plants No. 5 Burn Management
System to change over to the new Ovation (DCS). My tasks included field work to determine equipment to
be demolished, updating/revising drawings, and coordinating vendor data to set up new drawings with the
proper digital input and output assignments.
Wink Engineering, Inc., New Orleans, LA, Lead Designer, 1997–2010
Provided electrical design to develop one-lines, motor elementary and wiring diagrams, area
classifications, equipment layouts, conduit and cable schedules, power, cable tray, grounding and lighting
plans, panel schedules and miscellaneous details. Coordinated projects with civil and piping disciplines
and obtained required information from clients and vendors. This work involved field trips as necessary.
Specific major clients and projects included:
Marathon Refinery, Garyville, LA- Provide electrical design and construction packages for two tank
forms which included a new Motor Control Building, Substation type transformer, 480V MCC
equipment, Power and control cable routing, duct bank and cable tray installation and ground grid for
the GME plant expansion project. Provide demolition and construction drawings for the relocation of
electrical equipment for the Delta,Valve Project.
Shell Motiva Oil Refinery, Norco, LA- DU5 Compressor Replacement Project which required
temporary power for various equipment that was being switched to different power sources and the
replacement of the DU 5 Compressor.
Delta valve Modifications Project, provide demolition and construction drawings for the relocation of
electrical equipment.
3. RCU Upgrade Project; replace the air cooling system for the RCU Control Room which involved
demolition of old systems and installation of new air handlers, coolers and compressors.
Upgrade Lighting in Coker and HC Units, provided field work to identify dark areas in these units and
revised existing lighting circuits plus add new lighting circuits as required.
Provided design construction packages for numerous upgrades throughout the facility which involved
revised/adding pumps, providing power/control, grounding of new equipment, upgrading ground grids
and new cable tray systems.
Entergy Systems, Inc., Traveled throughout the Gulf and Middle South on two year project visiting
substations yards to determine what electrical equipment needed replacing such as transformers and
upgrading buss bar/tubing. Updated associated relay drawings and diagrams as well as equipment
plans and details. Also, updated drawings for high voltage transmission lines feeding substations.
Provided assistance to line crews in Arkansas after ice storm by scouting ahead of line crews to
determine materials/equipment needed to facilitate repair of down power lines.
BP Refinery in Belle Chase, LA; Worked on site for eighteen months as lead electrical designer on
their Polypropylene Project. This involved running cable tray systems to new pumps along with all
power and control and the installation of a motor control building.
Valero Refinery in Aruba; Provided support for migrating all power and control circuits for their
cooling water pumps and associated equipment from obsolete power sources to new switchgear and
motor control centers in new Motor Control Building.
Murphy Oil and Chalmette Refineries in Chalmette, LA; Replace and install new pumps, cable
tray systems and updated affected plan drawings, motor schematics and one-line diagrams
throughout various units in these refineries.
Entergy Waterford 3 Nuclear Power Station, Taft, LA, Nuclear Engineering Assistant 1987–1997
Produced electrical design packages in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Plant
procedures as well as coordinated construction efforts between Electrical Engineering and construction
crews during scheduled plant outages and provided on-site construction support during seven refueling
outages.
Independent Contractor, Hiroshima, Japan and Cook Inlet, Alaska, 1983–1987
Provided Electrical and Architectural Cost Engineering services to Marathon Oil Company for their
offshore Steelhead Oil Producing Platform during construction phase of the topside modules at the
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Yard in Hiroshima, Japan and later provided the same type of support during
the topside modules installation while offshore in Cook Inlet at Kenai, Alaska. My duties were to provide
reports for construction work performed, contractor hours expended verify the validity of extra work
request by contractors.
McDermott International, 1975–1983
Provided electrical material take-offs and generated Bill of Material for onshore installation equipment and
ship loose material for offshore hook up installation on overseas oil platforms.
