4. Components of good brick
Silica(sand) :-50% to 60% It is responsible for preventing cracking, shrinking
Alumina:-20%to30% Plasticity of earth
If present in excess, then the raw brick shrink and warp during drying.
Lime:-5%to10% It prevents shrinkage of bricks on drying.
Silica in clay to melt on burning
Excess of lime causes the brick to melt and brick looses its shape.
Iron oxide:- 5%to7%

Excess of magnesia leads to the decay of bricks.
Strength and hardness.
Redcolour to the bricks.
Excess, then the colour of brick becomes dark blue or blakish.
Less than brick becomes yellowish
