New Delhi (PTI): The
South Delhi Municipal
Corporation (SDMC)’s
property tax collection
hit an all-time high as
it collected Rs 1,075
crore during the finan-
cial year 2021-22, said
an official.
Joint assessor and
collector Radha Kris-
han, who heads the
property tax depart-
ment, said that it was
possible as the corpo-
ration collected the
tax from the 4.60 lakh
properties under its
jurisdiction.
Krishan said it was
made possible as the
department, through
constant survey,
brought more proper-
ties under the tax net
resulting in an in-
creased amount col-
lected. The depart-
ment conducted an in-
spection of commer-
cial properties to eval-
uate the exact amount
of tax and served no-
tices to big defaulters
for the payment of out-
standing dues of prop-
erty tax, he added.
The department
also pursued the mat-
ter of outstanding
dues of government
properties and build-
ings and followed them
with the officials con-
cerned to get the due
amount.
The SDMC had col-
lected 823.61 crore
against the target of
Rs 1,100 crore in the
financial year 2019-20.
Subsequently, it had
collected Rs 943.14
crore in the financial
year 2020-21. SDMC

Gyanesh Bharti said
that to increase the
number of taxpayers
and to ensure payment
of outstanding dues,
the property tax de-
partment along with
local RWAs organised
camps in all four
zones.
“Through these
camps, people were
motivated to pay their
property tax on time
and avail benefits of
the amnesty scheme
(if applicable).
Through the camp,
taxpayers were facili-
tated so they could file

sle,” said Bharti.

are also held at an inter-
val of one month each.
Therefore, the ques-
tion is whether this time
the elections of
Himachal Pradesh and
Gujarat will be held to-
gether? Last time i.e. in
2017, all 68 seats of
Himachal went to polls
on November 9. Exactly

polling took place on 14
Decemberandthecount-
ing of votes took place
on 18 December. The de-
cisioninthisregardisto
be taken by the Election
Commission and does
not require the approval
of the states. If the Elec-
tion Commission wants,

it is still a mystery as to
why the EC, which talks
about holding all the
elections together, is un-

Will HP Guj elections be held simultaneously?

HYDERABAD PUB RAID: ACTOR,
SINGER AMONG 144 DETAINED
Banjara Hills SHO suspended; singer detained was part of ‘drug-free Hyd’ drive
Hyderabad (Agen-
cies): Tollywood actor
Naga Babu’s daughter
and actor Niharika Ko-
nidela and singer Ra-
hul Sipligunj were
among 144 people de-
tained by police for par-
tying at a pub in Hy-
derabad beyond the
stipulated hours.
The pub at Radisson
Blu Hotel in posh Ban-
jara Hills was raided
around 3 am by Task
Force personnel of Hy-
derabad City Police,
who also found cocaine
and other banned sub-
stances from the prem-
ises.
Those found party-
ing also include daugh-
ter of a former Direc-
tor General of Andhra
Pradesh Police and a
son of a MP belonging
to TDP and children of
some other VIPs.
As the police found
some packets of co-
caine and after the
place was raided, some
of those partying threw
away the packets, po-
lice whisked away
those present in the
pub to the nearby Ban-
jara Hills police station
and questioned them.
Ironically, singer
and winner of Big Boss
Telugu reality show
Rahul Sipligunj, who
was among those de-
tained, was part of
“drug-free Hyderabad”
campaign launched by
the police. He sang a
song as part of the
campaign.
Those detained in-
clude 33 women and
some staff members of
the pub, which was
found violating the
rules by allowing the
party beyond permit-
ted hours.
Taking a serious
note of these viola-
tions and the police sta-
tion concerned failing
to act, Hyderabad Po-
lice Commissioner CV
Anand suspended SHO
of Banjara Hills Police
Station and issued a
charge memo to Assis-
tant Commissioner of
Police, Banjara Hills,
M Sudarshan.
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): The Delimita-
tion Commission will
visit Srinagar and
Jammu on April 4 and
5 to hear members of
the public and civil so-
ciety groups who have
submitted sugges-
tions and objections
on its draft delimita-
tion proposal for the
Union territory
.
Around 300 repre-
sentations were re-
ceived by the panel
between March 14,
when it placed its de-
limitation proposal in
the public domain,
and March 21, the last
date for people to sub-
mit objections and
suggestions.
The public hear-
ings will give a chance
to the people and
groups that have filed
objections and sug-
gestions on the pro-
posed reconfiguration
of assembly and par-
liamentary constitu-
encies in JK, to pre-
sent their arguments
before the delimita-
tion panel.
Sources said most
of the representa-
tions received by the
delimitation commis-
sion are from Jammu
(around 60), Anant-
nag (40) and Kupwara
(40). The ones from
Anantnag mostly re-
late to objections re-
garding the proposal
to redraw the Anant-
nag parliamentary
constituency to in-
clude areas from both
Jammu and Kashmir
region and rechris-
ten it as Anantnag-
Rajouri.
Not a single repre-
sentation has been
received from the two
districts of Pulwama
and Shopian, sources
told media.

Played ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, MNS leader held
Mumbai (Agencies):
A Maharashtra
Navnirman Sena
(MNS) leader was tak-
en into police custody
for allegedly playing
‘Hanuman Chalisa’ on
loudspeakers without
permission at the par-
ty office in Mumbai’s
Ghatkopar on Sunday.
“They’ve taken
away my amplifier.
But I’d like to say, in
the coming times, ‘Jai
Shree Ram’ will be
played on loudspeak-
ers,” said Mahendra
Bhanushali while ad-
dressing the media.
Addressing the party
workers on Saturday,
Thackeray had asked
the state government to
remove the loudspeak-
ers from mosques and
warned of putting loud-
speakers in front of the
mosques and playing
‘Hanuman Chalisa’.
New Delhi (PTI): The
Ministry of Home Af-
fairs (MHA) has written
to states with sizable
numbers of tribal popu-
lation, to set up a sepa-
rate training module to
handle crimes in tribal
areas, sources in the
government said.
The states have been
asked to set up special-
ised training centres
and at-least six to eight
week training must be
given to the cops before
posting them in police
stations in tribal areas.
The police officials
who have been posted
long in these areas
should share their expe-
riences in the training
centres about the ap-
proaches to handle
crimes in tribal areas
and training manual of
the States may also be
amended so that the po-
lice officers are made
aware of local tradi-
tions, the officials said.

Lucknow: There is no
doubt that the cam-
paign of Modi-Yogi has
been ‘aired’ more in Ut-
tar Pradesh, in place of
the usual Modi-Shah,
both during the election
campaign and after the
results. In the wake of
the BJP’s thumping vic-
tory, it was told, in
many ways, that Amit
Shah played a big role
in the victory of Uttar
Pradesh. The risk that
Amit Shah took by tak-
ing charge of western
Uttar Pradesh and the
Braj region, amid the
anger of the Jats and
the farmers, was cer-
tainly going to turn the
tide of the UP elections.
In fact, that is exactly
from where the victory
path of BJP started. So
Shah has his place and
his role. But Yogi’s stat-
ure has increased and
he is being described as
a contender for the posi-
tion of number two in
the national politics.
But is it really so?
Has Yogi really become
the number two leader
after becoming the
Chief Minister of Uttar
Pradesh for the second
time, a feat not accom-
plished in at least the
last three decades?
Well, truth be told, it is
not so now, since he is
not even a member of
the parliamentary
board of the BJP. There
is only one Chief Minis-
ter in the Parliamenta-
ry Board, the highest
decision making body
in BJP and that is
Shivraj Singh Chou-
han. If Yogi Adityanath
is included in the Par-
liamentary Board, then
it will be a big develop-
ment, which is surely
going to increase his
stature. Notably, new
members are to be nom-
inated in the Parlia-
mentary Board in the
next few days.
At present, the BJP
Parliamentary Board
has only seven members
and except one, the rest
are ex-officio members.
The Party president, the
Prime Minister, the for-
mer Speaker, the Leader
of both the Houses and
the Organisation Gen-
eral Secretary are the
ex-officio members of
the Parliamentary
Board. In this regard,
President JP Nadda,
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi, former Presi-
dent- Rajnath Singh,
Nitin Gadkari and Amit
Shah and Organisation
General Secretary BL
Santosh are ex-officio
members. Apart from
these, only Shivraj Sin-
gh Chauhan is the only
member who is not ex-
officio. The Parliamen-
tary Board has previ-
ously had 12 members.
In this context, the posts
of five members are va-
cant. Three members -
Arun Jaitley, Sushma
Swaraj and Ananth Ku-
mar - passed away
, while
VenkaiahNaidubecame
the Vice President and
Thaawarchand Gehlot
became the Governor.
By law, as the leader
of the party in the Rajya
Sabha, Piyush Goyal
should be its member,
but the decision on this
aspect will be taken lat-
er. One woman and one
Dalit or tribal member
will get a place on the
board. Among the wom-
en leaders, the names of
Nirmala Sitharaman
and Smriti Irani are do-
ing the rounds, while
the name of Babulal
Marandi is discussed
from the tribal quota.
Keep in mind that out
of the seven members
of the BJP’s parliamen-
tary board, five are
from the upper castes
and two from the back-
ward castes. So, the
party has to increase
the representation of
the backward castes,
bring in Dalit and Adi-
vasi members and com-
pulsorily have a woman
on the board. If Parlia-
mentary Board mem-
bers are appointed on
this scale then it will be
difficult for Yogi to go to
this apex body. If the
Prime Minister makes
him a member regard-
less of the equation,
then the way for him to
become number two
will be cleared.
Will Yogi be included in BJP Parliamentary Board?
Officials of the Task Force raided the pub around 2:30 am on April
3 and found over 150 persons partying.

All MPs of both the houses will be
present in the meeting. The meet-

Sonia Gandhi focuses the way

in five state elections and the party is trying to remain
united as Sonia Gandhi has pitched herself to keep the
flock together. The party has to face two crucial state
elections this year –Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

The gradual downslide in the
Congress has fuelled the ambi-

Mamata Banerjee who thinks
that her party can edge out the
Congress. Having burnt its fin-

even the Samajwadi Party is not

Congress. None of the opposi-

KASHMIR VALLEY
WINDS OF CHANGE
ashmir, if literally translated,
means land desiccated from
water: “Ka” (the water) and
shimeera(todesiccate).Tradi-
tion says that Kashmir was
originally a lake that was
drained by the great saint of
ancient India Kashyap. It was
included in the empire of
Ashoka Maurya who is cred-
itedwiththefoundationof the
city of Srinagar around the
year 250 BC. During this peri-
od Buddhism spread in Kash-
mir and flourished under the
Kushans, but Hinduism held
itsswayintheregion.Thelast
Hindu ruler of Kashmir was
Udyan Dev but Queen Kota
Rani was the de-facto ruler of
the kingdom. The Hindu rule
in Kashmir came to an end in
1339 with her death and Mus-
lim rule was established un-
derSultanShamas-ud-dinand
his dynasty ruled the valley
for 222 years.
In 1819, Kashmir was an-
nexed by Ranjit Singh and
made a part of his Sikh em-
pire. Later Kashmir transit-
ed from British to DOGRAS
and Maharaja Hari Singh
ruled the state from 1925 to
1952. Maharaja Hari Singh
placed Kashmir under the
dominion of India by execut-
ing an Instrument of Acces-
sion on October 27, 1947. In
1956 Kashmir was integrated
into the Indian Union under
a new Constitution. However,
PoK Kashmir continued to be
under illegal occupation of
Pakistan. Kashmir was a
tourist’s paradise during the
1970’s and early 1980’s. How-
ever, tourism in Kashmir de-
clined during the late 1980’s
and 1990’s, due to terrorism
and disturbances. For years
Article 370 and Article 35A
held the erstwhile state from
achieving its true potential.
However, the Modi- Shah
plan of annulment of Article
370 and the formation of two
new union territories in 2019
has triggered the change and
stabilising with time. The
concerted effort by team Chi-
nar Corps, other security
forces and local people under
the guidance of LG has defi-
nitely stimulated the change.
The government’s recon-
struction plan for Kashmir
with an outlay of approxi-
mately Rs 24,000 crore, in the
fields of infrastructure, edu-
cation, health, civil ameni-
ties, industrial promotion,
employment and income gen-
eration seems to be working
for good. If over six lac tour-
ists pouring into valley since
2021is an indication, then
definitely the valley is wit-
nessing winds of change.
A seamless integration of
security forces and special
Indian Army initiate, the
voices unheard for decades
are finding expression in the
conversations and platforms
being provided to them at
various levels. Discussions
on future of violence-free
Kashmir with integrated
growth paradigms are re-
peated rejection of terrorism
and violence are underlining
themes of these platforms.
The incidents of glorifying a
terrorist killed by SF have
diminished. In a recent case
a lady publically applauding
Army and wishing her son to
be an Army officer only au-
thenticates the change.
Operation Sadbhavana, a

tions of people affected by

tion of the State and fast be-

reaching out to far flung are-
as for basic needs of water
and electricity
, access to qual-
ity education and basic
health and hygiene the work
by Indian army has been ex-
emplary. Indian Army has
established 46 Army Good-
will Schools and there is a
growing clamour from local
population for opening
schools in almost all corners
of the State. Approximately
14,000 students are currently
enrolled and close to one lakh
children have obtained pri-
mary/higher secondary lev-
els quality education in last
one and half decades of in-
surgency. Many success sto-
ries like of Shamima khatun
of Baramullah, Ifra Sheikh
of Badgam etc, now profes-
sors in the history depart-
ment of Kashmir University,
is a testimony to the positive
change, a society can experi-
ence through the window of
education. Because of these
positive changes the radical
space is shrinking and bigot-
ed ideology is beginning to
take a thorough beating.
The Kashmir valley is now

Congress in UP facing
existential crisis
Gyanendra Kumar Shukla
Lucknow: In the re-
cently concluded assem-
bly elections in UP, the
Congress party suffered
the worst loss. The
country’s oldest party
ranked first in the mat-
ter of forfeiture of elec-
toral bail. In ten seats,
party candidates got
less votes than NOTA.
After such humiliat-
ing defeat, the displea-
sure of the party work-
ers against the team
handling the election
management of the par-
ty has increased mani-
fold, while at the same
time, the voices of re-
bellion have also start-
ed picking up. While the
process of discussion
within the party is not
being started regarding
the reasons for the de-
feat, at the same time,
the campaign to reorga-
nize the state unit of
the party is also hang-
ing in the balance.
Notably, the Priyan-
ka-led Congress focused
primarily on the ‘wom-
en card’ in the elections.
Avoiding alliance with
any party, Congress
fielded 399 candidates,
out of which 387 forfeit-
ed their deposits.
In the worst-ever per-
formance, the Congress
won just two seats,
Virendra Chaudhary
won from Farenda seat
of Maharajganj district
and Aradhana Mishra
Mona got victory from
Rampur Khas seat of
Pratapgarh in the re-
cently concluded polls.
Congress candidates
came second in just
four seats Mathura,
Kidwai Nagar, Jagdish-
pur and Khairagarh.
Even though Congress
was second in Mathura,
difference of votes be-
tween its candidate
Pradeep Mathur and
BJP’s candidate Shri-
kant Sharma was more
than one lakh.
STF nabs 4 drug peddlers,
opium worth `13.5 cr
Lucknow(PTI): The
Special Task Force
(STF) of Uttar Pradesh
Police on Sunday bust-
ed an inter-state drug
smuggling gang, ac-
cording to an official
statement.
The STF arrested
four members of the
gang and recovered opi-
um worth about `13 cr.
The accused smug-
gled the contraband
from Jharkhand and
were planning to take it
to Uttrakhand via Shah-
jahanpur, according to
a press statement is-
sued by the STF.
“Acting on this infor-
mation, the STF team
intercepted the accused
in Shahjahanpur. The
team recovered 13.2 kg
of opium from their
possession which is
worth `13 crore in the
international market.
`53,990 in cash was also
recovered from the ac-
cused,” the statement
read. The arrested
smugglers have told the
STF during interroga-
tion that they brought
opium from a
Jharkhand resident,
Rocky Raj, near Chopan
in Sonbhadra district,
STF sources said.
The accused were in-
volved in smuggling
drugs for the last two-
three years.

Prez: India’s position on Ukraine
conflict steadfast, consistent
India has not yet criticised Russia and it abstained from the votes at the UN platforms
Ashgabat (PTI): In-
dia’s position on the on-
going conflict in
Ukraine has been stead-
fast and consistent,
President Ram Nath
Kovind has said, em-
phasising that the cur-
rent global order is an-
chored in international
law, UN Charter, and
respect for territorial
integrity and sover-
eignty of states.
Unlike many other
leading powers, India
has not yet criticised
Russia for its invasion
of Ukraine and it ab-
stained from the votes
at the UN platforms in
condemning the Rus-
sian aggression.
Interacting with
young students at the
prestigious Institute of
International Relations
here, President Kovind
said that India is deeply
concerned about the
worsening humanitari-
an situation in Ukraine.
“India’s position on
the ongoing conflict has
been steadfast and con-
sistent,” he said.
“We have emphasised
that the current global
order is anchored in in-
ternational law, the UN
Charter, and respect for
territorial integrity

New Delhi: The De-
partment of Revenue’s
new roster for members
of the Central Board of
Indirect Taxes Cus-
toms (CBIC) has caused
a bit of surprise.
The surprise is
caused by the appoint-
ment of Sanjay Kumar
Agarwal (IRS
CCE:1988) as the mem-
ber in charge of compli-
ance management as
well as the supervising
authority of DG of DRI
and DG of GST Intelli-
gence - two critical posi-
tions. Previously, DRI
was under Balesh Ku-
mar.
Earlier, even though
Agarwal was appointed
as a Member of CBIC,
he was put on wait for
an assignment. Howev-
er, a month later on
31/03/2022, the govt al-
located him critical
portfolios.
Agarwal’s new port-
folios caused a change
in the assignments of
three members retiring
within the next six
months. DP Nagendra
and Balesh Kumar and
Sandeep Kumar will re-
tire in July, August
October respectively.
The remaining 4-6
months of their residu-
al service would be con-
sumed in familiarizing
themselves with new
subjects.
It is said that by ap-
pointing Agarwal as the
boss of all revenue in-
telligence operations,
the administration has
shown its preference
for an officer with the
maximum residual ser-
vice. This preference of
the administration in
favor of officers with
the maximum residual
service was earlier re-
flected in the appoint-
ment of Rajeev Talwar
as a member.

Morena (PTI): Videos showing several nursing course

The incident occurred on Friday
when students of some private

for a practical examination held
at the state-run district hospital
in Morena. Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO)
Dr Rakesh Sharma said a five-member panel has been
constituted to probe the holding of exams.

Two persons were injured in
the incident that took place at

Central Railway. Several trains
from Mumbai towards Bhu-

New Delhi: Assembly
elections are going to be
held in Karnataka in
May next year, but be-
fore that the discussion
has intensified that As-
sembly elections can be
held later this year.
Keep in mind that As-
sembly elections are go-
ing to be held in two
states Himachal
Pradesh and Gujarat at
the end of the year.
That’s why many state
Congress leaders are
saying that elections
can be held with them
in Karnataka too. Kar-
nataka Congress Presi-
dent DK Shivakumar
has claimed that elec-
tion will be announced
on November 27. Keep
in mind that communal
politics in State is at its
peak. The row over hi-
jab is still going on. This
matter has been chal-
lenged in the SC after
the High Court’s ban on
wearing hijab in school-
college. Meanwhile, the
govt has started imple-
menting the decision of
the HC. Because of this,
the girl students had to
remove hijab during the
exams or had to skip it.
A BJP MLA has raised
another issue. He ap-
pealed to Hindus not to
eat Halal meat. The row
overhijabandhalalmeat
has increased. Only the
Congress suspect that to
take advantage of this
politics of polarisation,
polls may be pushed
ahead of time.

ments of petroleum
products, engineering
goods, gem and jewel-
lery and chemicals, ac-
cording to official data
released on Sunday
.
Outboundshipments
touched an all-time
high of USD 40 billion
in a month in March
2022, Commerce and
Industry Minister Pi-
yush Goyal told report-
ers here. Exports stood
at USD 34 billion in
March 2021.
Merchandise ex-
ports were worth USD
292 billion in FY2020-
21.
The key export sec-
tors, which contributed
to record healthy
growth, include petro-
leum products, engi-
neering, gems and jew-
ellery, chemicals and
pharmaceuticals.
The top five export
destinations are the
US, UAE, China, Bang-
ladesh and the Nether-
lands.
Hailing the country’s
success in achieving
the goods export target,
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi had said that
this is a key milestone
in India’s ‘Aatmanirb-
har Bharat’ journey
.
India’s merchandise
exports had breached
the targeted USD 400
billion mark on March
23 this year.
Key export sectors,
which contributed to
record growth, include
petroleum products,

With surging exports, India to push
its businesses abroad more boldly
New Delhi (ANI):
Buoyed by the recent
surge in Indian goods
exports which touched
USD 400 billion this
year, India will give
further push to eco-
nomic diplomacy and
will market its business
more boldly and openly
across the globe, a sen-
ior functionary of the
government told ANI.
India has recently
inked crucial trade
agreements with United
Arab Emirates (UAE)
and Australia. Talks
with Israel, European
Union and Britain are
also progressing well,
according to a senior
official.
Recently, Commerce
and Industry Minister
Piyush Goyal indicated
that several agreements
will be inked by the end
of 2022
Although he did not
give any deadline, India-
UAE Comprehensive
Economic Partnership
Agreement (CEPA) was
concluded in record 88
days. India is expecting
a major boost in two-
way trade with Australia
and UAE after the pacts.
Earlier, India had

India on the cusp of major
economic recovery: Niti
Aayog VC Rajiv Kumar
New Delhi (PTI): In-
dia is on the cusp of a
major economic recov-
ery and talks of possi-
ble stagflation are
“overhyped” as a
strong economic foun-
dation is being laid
with the reforms car-
ried out by the govern-
ment over the last sev-
en years, Niti Aayog
Vice Chairman Rajiv
Kumar said on Sunday
.
Notwithstanding
economic uncertain-
ties triggered by the
Russia-Ukraine war
that is also impacting
global supply chains,
Kumar asserted that it
was quite clear from
all accounts that India
will remain the fastest
growing economy in
the world.
“Given all the re-
forms that we have
done in the last seven
years, and given that
we are seeing the end
of the COVID-19 pan-
demic hopefully, and
the 7.8 per cent rate
of growth that we
will get this year
(2022-23), a very
strong foundation is
now being laid for
further rapid in-
crease in economic
growth in the coming
years,” Kumar told
PTI in an interview.
Asia’s third-largest
economy is projected
to grow 8.9 per cent in
2021-22, according to
recent government
data. The Reserve
Bank of India (RBI)
has pegged the eco-
nomic growth rate for
2022-23 at 7.8 per cent.
“So, I think India is
on the cusp of a ma-
jor economic recov-
ery and economic
growth,” Kumar said
even as he acknowl-
edged that because of
the Russia-Ukraine
war, India’s GDP
growth projection
could be revised.
“But even then, In-
dia will remain the
fastest growing econo-
my and all the other
economic parameters
are actually quite
within the range,” he
said.
Russia started its
military offensive
against Ukraine on
February 24. Western
nations, including the
US, have imposed ma-
jor economic and vari-
ous other sanctions on
Russia following the
offensive.
On rising inflation,
the Niti Aayog Vice
Chairman said that
RBI is keeping a close
watch as per its man-
date.

ONGC to see $3 bn rise in earnings,
Reliance $1.5 bn from gas price hike
New Delhi (PTI): State-
owned Oil and Natural
Gas Corporation
(ONGC) is likely to see
a USD 3 billion (about
Rs 23,000 crore) rise in
its annual earnings
from the more than
doubling of the price of
natural gas it produces,
while Reliance Indus-
tries may get USD 1.5
billion (Rs 11,500 crore)
more in revenue, a re-
port has said.
The government
from April 1 increased
the gas price paid to
producers of oil and
regulated fields from
USD 2.9 per million
British thermal units to
USD 6.10, a record high.
For difficult fields, such
as deepsea fields of Re-
liance, the price has
gone up by 62 per cent to

Maruti Suzuki aims to sell 6L CNG units in FY22
New Delhi (PTI): The
country’s largest car-
maker Maruti Suzuki
India (MSI) aims to sell
4-6 lakh CNG units in
the current fiscal year
depending upon supply
situation of essential
components, as per a
senior company offi-
cial. The company sold
about 2.3 lakh CNG
units in 2021-22. MSI
currently sells nine of
its 15 models with CNG
powertrain and is look-
ing to drive in more
models with such tech-
nology in the coming
days. “It depends on
availability (of essen-
tial components). But
we are looking at any
number between 4 lakh
and 6 lakh units in the
current fiscal,” MSI
Senior Executive Di-
rector (Sales and Mar-
keting) Shashank Sriv-
astava told PTI in an
interaction.
He was replying to a
query regarding the
company’s sales projec-
tions for the CNG seg-
ment in current fiscal
year. Srivastava noted
that the share of CNG
cars in its overall sales
is bound to increase
over the years as it
plans to bring in more
models with the alter-
native fuel technology.
“CNG volumes are now
about 17 per cent of our
overall sales. We have
CNG in nine models
and in those models
their contribution is
about 32-33 per cent,”
he stated. Srivastava
noted that there is a lot
of interest among the
consumers for CNG
cars because of low
running cost and con-
tinuous increase in fuel
cost. Over the last few
years, MSI has wit-
nessed growth in CNG
car sales.
It sold 74,000 units
in 2016-17; around 1
lakh units in 2018-19;
1.05 lakh units in 2019-
20; and 1.62 lakh units
in 2020-21. The auto
major has stated in
the past that the
launch of its S-CNG
vehicle range is
aligned to and comple-
ments the govern-
ment’s vision of re-
ducing oil import and
enhancing the share
of natural gas in the
country’s primary en-
ergy mix from 6.2 per
cent now to 15 per cent
by 2030.

India's jobless rate falls to 7.6%
in Mar from 8.1% in Feb: CMIE
Kolkata (PTI): Unem-
ployment rate in the
country is decreasing
with the economy slowly
returning to normal, ac-
cording to CMIE data.
The Centre for Monitor-
ing Indian Economy’s
monthly time series data
revealed that the over-
all unemployment rate in
India was 8.10 per cent
in February 2022, which
fell to 7.6 per cent in
March.
On April 2, the ratio
further dropped to 7.5
per cent, with urban un-
employment rate at 8.5
per cent and rural at 7.1
per cent.
Retired professor of
economics at Indian Sta-
tistical Institute Abhirup
Sarkar said that though
the overall unemploy-
ment rate is falling, it
is still high for a “poor”
country like India.
The decrease in the
ratio shows that
the economy is
getting back on
track after being
hit by COVID-19 for
two years, he said.
“But still, this unem-
ployment rate is
high for India
which is a poor
country,” Sarkar
said.

. Earlier on Saturday,
following the Tiranga

where they spun

they urged the people
of Gujarat to give one
chance to his party in
the forthcoming elec-

further assured that
his party will end the
cycle of corruption in
the state after coming
to power.
“I don’t know how to

RS played crucial role in strengthening Parliamentary democracy: Naidu
New Delhi (PTI): Ex-
tending greetings on
Rajya Sabha Day on
Sunday, Vice President
M Venkaiah Naidu said
the upper house has
played a crucial role in
strengthening parlia-
mentary democracy
.
Naidu, who is also
Chairman of the Rajya
Sabha, appealed to its
members to engage in
informed and construc-
tive debates by keeping
the welfare of the peo-
ple in mind.
“Greetings on Rajya
Sabha Day! Ever since
its inception, Rajya
Sabha has played a cru-
cial role in strengthen-
ing parliamentary de-
mocracy,” the Vice
President Secretariat
tweeted, quoting Naidu.
“I would like to ap-
peal to the members of
Rajya Sabha to engage
in informed con-
structive debates by
keeping the welfare of
the people in mind,” he
said.
The Constituent As-
sembly, which first met
on December 9, 1946,
also acted as the Cen-
tral Legislature till
1950, when it was con-
verted as ‘Provisional
Parliament’. During
this period, the Central
Legislature, which was
known as Constituent
Assembly and later Pro-
visional Parliament,
was unicameral till the
first elections were
held in 1952.
Extensive debate
took place in the Con-
stituent Assembly re-
garding the utility or
otherwise of a second
chamber in independ-
ent India and ultimate-
ly, it was decided to
have a bicameral legis-
lature for independent
India mainly because a
federal system was
considered to be most
feasible form of gov-
ernment for such a
vast country with im-
mense diversities.
A second chamber
known as the ‘Council
of States’, therefore,
was created with alto-
gether different com-
position and method of
election from that of
the directly elected
House of the People.
Apart from the
elected members, pro-
vision was also made
for the nomination of
12 members to the
House by the Presi-
dent. The nomencla-
ture “Rajya Sabha”
was announced by the
Chair in the House on
August 23, 1954.

First India Bureau
Jammu: In a break-
through achievement,
the National Dope Test-
ing Laboratory (NDTL)
has indigenously devel-
oped six new and rare
Reference Materials
(RMs), which is the pur-
est form of chemical
required for anti-doping
analysis in all WADA-
accredited Laboratories
across the world. The
six RMs have been de-
veloped in less than a
year by NDTL in asso-
ciation with the Nation-
al Institute of Pharma-
ceutical Education and
Research (NIPER)-
Guwahati and the CSIR-
Indian Institute of Inte-
grative Medicine (IIIM),
Jammu.
The RMs were
launched by Union Min-
ister of Youth Affairs
and Sports Anurag Sin-
gh Thakur during the
15th Governing Body
Meeting of NDTL, in
the presence of Sports
Secretary Sujata
Chaturvedi and other
senior officials of the
Sports Ministry
.
With the creation of
these RMs NDTL has
earned itself the recog-
nition of being one of
the few labs in the world
where such RMs have
been developed.
Speaking about the
achievement, Thakur
said, “I applaud the sci-
entists of the three in-
stitutions who have
worked tirelessly to cre-
ate these reference ma-
terials. These RMs are
not readily available
across the world but are
needed by every WADA-
accredited laboratory
for their anti-doping
analysis. India itself
has been importing
RMs from Canada and
Australia, however,
with this scientific de-
velopment India has in-
deed taken a step to-
wards Atmanirbhar
Bharat.
AAP creates atmosphere

on ground, says Thakur
Chandigarh (ANI):
Union Minister Anurag
Thakur took a jibe at
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)
national convenor
Arvind Kejriwal on the
day the latter urged the
people of poll-bound
Gujarat to give his
party a chance in the
forthcoming Assembly
elections, and said that
they “create an atmos-
phere via the media”
but have “nothing on
the ground”.
Speaking to media,
Thakur said, “Arvind
Kejriwal has contested
against Prime Minister
Narendra Modi before,
you’ve seen his condi-
tion. He couldn’t win a
seat in Uttar Pradesh,
did you see his condi-
tion in Uttarakhand,
Goa? Sometimes they
create an atmosphere
via media but have
nothing on the ground.”
Lauding PM’s leader-
ship, the minister called
him the “world’s most
loved leader” and said
that the BJP gets votes
“unilaterally” in his
name wherever there
are elections in the
country.
“At the end of the
year, BJP will come
again in Himachal
Pradesh and Gujarat as
well. Whenever there
are elections in the
country, BJP gets votes
in the name of PM Modi
unilaterally,” he said.

Gujarat BJP Chief’s Delhi sojourn
sparks early election debate
First India Bureau
Surat/ Gandhinagar:
After making last-min-
ute changes to his
schedule, Bharatiya Ja-
nata Party (BJP) Guja-
rat unit President CR
Patil flew to Delhi on
Sunday morning. This
has surprised many
and also sparked specu-
lations whether Guja-
rat will hold state as-
sembly polls early
.
Patil was to attend a
community event in Ra-
jkot on Sunday
, when he
informed organisers
that he will only be able
to address the event vir-
tually. He cited his im-
pending visit to Delhi
as the reason for the
change in plan.
Sources say that he is
going to meet Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi. Patil will be dis-
cussing election strate-
gy and may even make
firm plans of bringing
in Congress MLAs into
the party fold. They
may even discuss cam-
paign plans and star
campaigners, they add-
ed.
However, Patil had
told local media per-
sons, “The State Elec-
tion Commission (SEC)
makes the decisions re-
garding elections and
no party can influence
or pressure it. The BJP
is not preparing for ear-
ly elections and they
will be held when the
commission says so.”
Koli community leaders of the Vir Mandhata Group
met with Khodaldham Trust’s managing trustee Na-
resh Patel on Sunday, and promised to extend their
support to his political journey. Addressing media
persons, the group’s leader Raju Solanki said,
“Naresh Patel will have our full support and cooper-
ation no matter which political party he joins. Good
people are required in politics and if a person like
him joins politics, it can change the whole path and
bring about development for the people.”

Khattar condemns Punjab’s

First India Bureau
Chandigarh: Con-
demning a resolution
moved in the Assembly
seeking the transfer of
Chandigarh to Punjab,
Haryana Chief Minis-
ter Manohar Lal Khat-
tar has demanded an
apology from Aam Aad-
mi Party (AAP) nation-
al convener Arvind Ke-
jriwal and Chief Minis-
ter Bhagwant Mann.
“Arvind Kejriwal
should condemn it, or
they should apologise to
the people of Haryana.
Punjab Chief Minister
should also apologise to
the people of Haryana.
What they have done is
condemnable,” he said.
The Haryana Chief
Minister further said
that the Rajiv-Longowal
Accord was signed 35-36
years ago and as per the
Accord, Chandigarh is
the capital of both Har-
yana and Punjab.
Khattar also asked
Kejriwal to clarify his
stand on the matter of
the Sutlej-Yamuna link
issue. “Arvind Kejriwal
demands water on one
side and does not want
to give water on the oth-
er. So he should clarify
his stand in the matter
of SYN,” he added.
 —With ANI inputs
AAP benefits from agitations, even opposition parties agree to it!
First India Bureau
New Delhi: Experi-
enced political strate-
gists and observers have
now come to pass that if
the general public of the
country agitate over an
issue, it is the Aam Aad-
mi Party (AAP) that
benefits from it. It will
sound strange but it is
evident from the results
of Delhi and Punjab and
now the leaders of the
party are also accepting
it. Keep in mind that in
2011, Anna Hazare’s
movement against cor-
ruption took place in
Delhi, after which the
AAP was formed and in
the very first elections it
became the number two
party of Delhi. After
that, it did wonders in
the next two elections.
Congress remained at
zero in two consecutive
electionsandAAPgot67
and62seatsrespectively
.
A similar feat has been
achieved in Punjab.
Last year, there was a
farmers’ movement. Al-
though farmers from all
over the country were
involved in the move-
ment, but mainly the
farmers of Punjab and
Haryana were agitat-
ing. The Central Govt
and the BJP’s IT cell
also targeted the farm-
ers of Punjab and
termed them Khal-
istani, Terrorist, Mawa-
li, etc. When elections
were held in Punjab just
after that movement,
AAP benefited hugely
as it won on 93 of the 117
assembly seats. The
Haryana assembly elec-
tions are still some time
away, otherwise AAP
would have benefited
there too. So, it’s be-
lieved that if there’s
any movement across
the country regarding
inflation, unemploy-
ment etc., then instead
of Congress, AAP will
get the benefit of it.

Joint assessor and collector Radha Kris- han, who heads the property tax depart- ment, said that it was possible as the corpo- ration collected the tax from the 4.60 lakh properties under its jurisdiction. Krishan said it was made possible as the department, through constant survey, brought more proper- ties under the tax net resulting in an in- creased amount col- lected. The depart- ment conducted an in- spection of commer- cial properties to eval- uate the exact amount of tax and served no- tices to big defaulters for the payment of out- standing dues of prop- erty tax, he added. The department also pursued the mat- ter of outstanding dues of government properties and build- ings and followed them with the officials con- cerned to get the due amount. GZB police arrest Notorious criminal after encounter First India Bureau New Delhi: For the last eight years, there has been a major discussion in India that all the elec- tions in the country should be held simulta- neously . Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party leaders have reit- erated this point hun- dreds of times, but in reality no effort has beenmadetoimplement this idea. The example of this is the assembly elections of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Both elections are held at an interval of one month. The Election Commissionalsodidnot conduct the elections of these two states simulta- neously . Similarly , elec- tions in Haryana, Maha- rashtra and Jharkhand are also held at an inter- val of one month each. Therefore, the ques- tion is whether this time the elections of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will be held to- gether? Last time i.e. in 2017, all 68 seats of Himachal went to polls on November 9. Exactly amonthlater,onDecem- ber 9, the first phase of pollingwasheldinGuja- rat. The second phase of polling took place on 14 Decemberandthecount- ing of votes took place on 18 December. The de- cisioninthisregardisto be taken by the Election Commission and does not require the approval of the states. If the Elec- tion Commission wants, Gujaratpollscanbeheld a month earlier in No- vember along with Himachal Pradesh. But it is still a mystery as to why the EC, which talks about holding all the elections together, is un- able to conduct the elec- tions of two states si- multaneously . Will HP Guj elections be held simultaneously? ONE NATION ONE ELECTION! HYDERABAD PUB RAID: ACTOR, SINGER AMONG 144 DETAINED Banjara Hills SHO suspended; singer detained was part of ‘drug-free Hyd’ drive Hyderabad (Agen- cies): Tollywood actor Naga Babu’s daughter and actor Niharika Ko- nidela and singer Ra- hul Sipligunj were among 144 people de- tained by police for par- tying at a pub in Hy- derabad beyond the stipulated hours. The pub at Radisson Blu Hotel in posh Ban- jara Hills was raided around 3 am by Task Force personnel of Hy- derabad City Police, who also found cocaine and other banned sub- stances from the prem- ises. Those found party- ing also include daugh- ter of a former Direc- tor General of Andhra Pradesh Police and a son of a MP belonging to TDP and children of some other VIPs. As the police found some packets of co- caine and after the place was raided, some of those partying threw away the packets, po- lice whisked away those present in the pub to the nearby Ban- jara Hills police station and questioned them. Ironically, singer and winner of Big Boss Telugu reality show Rahul Sipligunj, who was among those de- tained, was part of “drug-free Hyderabad” campaign launched by the police. He sang a song as part of the campaign. Those detained in- clude 33 women and some staff members of the pub, which was found violating the rules by allowing the party beyond permit- ted hours. Taking a serious note of these viola- tions and the police sta- tion concerned failing to act, Hyderabad Po- lice Commissioner CV Anand suspended SHO of Banjara Hills Police Station and issued a charge memo to Assis- tant Commissioner of Police, Banjara Hills, M Sudarshan. New Delhi (Agen- cies): The Delimita- tion Commission will visit Srinagar and Jammu on April 4 and 5 to hear members of the public and civil so- ciety groups who have submitted sugges- tions and objections on its draft delimita- tion proposal for the Union territory . Around 300 repre- sentations were re- ceived by the panel between March 14, when it placed its de- limitation proposal in the public domain, and March 21, the last date for people to sub- mit objections and suggestions. The public hear- ings will give a chance to the people and groups that have filed objections and sug- gestions on the pro- posed reconfiguration of assembly and par- liamentary constitu- encies in JK, to pre- sent their arguments before the delimita- tion panel. Sources said most of the representa- tions received by the delimitation commis- sion are from Jammu (around 60), Anant- nag (40) and Kupwara (40). The ones from Anantnag mostly re- late to objections re- garding the proposal to redraw the Anant- nag parliamentary constituency to in- clude areas from both Jammu and Kashmir region and rechris- ten it as Anantnag- Rajouri. Not a single repre- sentation has been received from the two districts of Pulwama and Shopian, sources told media. Public hearings on JK delimitation draft today Played ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, MNS leader held Mumbai (Agencies): A Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader was tak- en into police custody for allegedly playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ on loudspeakers without permission at the par- ty office in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar on Sunday. “They’ve taken away my amplifier. But I’d like to say, in the coming times, ‘Jai Shree Ram’ will be played on loudspeak- ers,” said Mahendra Bhanushali while ad- dressing the media. Addressing the party workers on Saturday, Thackeray had asked the state government to remove the loudspeak- ers from mosques and warned of putting loud- speakers in front of the mosques and playing ‘Hanuman Chalisa’. New Delhi (PTI): The Ministry of Home Af- fairs (MHA) has written to states with sizable numbers of tribal popu- lation, to set up a sepa- rate training module to handle crimes in tribal areas, sources in the government said. The states have been asked to set up special- ised training centres and at-least six to eight week training must be given to the cops before posting them in police stations in tribal areas. The police officials who have been posted long in these areas should share their expe- riences in the training centres about the ap- proaches to handle crimes in tribal areas and training manual of the States may also be amended so that the po- lice officers are made aware of local tradi- tions, the officials said. States asked to set up separate training module in tribal areas Sharat K Verma Lucknow: There is no doubt that the cam- paign of Modi-Yogi has been ‘aired’ more in Ut- tar Pradesh, in place of the usual Modi-Shah, both during the election campaign and after the results. In the wake of the BJP’s thumping vic- tory, it was told, in many ways, that Amit Shah played a big role in the victory of Uttar Pradesh. The risk that Amit Shah took by tak- ing charge of western Uttar Pradesh and the Braj region, amid the anger of the Jats and the farmers, was cer- tainly going to turn the tide of the UP elections. In fact, that is exactly from where the victory path of BJP started. So Shah has his place and his role. But Yogi’s stat- ure has increased and he is being described as a contender for the posi- tion of number two in the national politics. But is it really so? Has Yogi really become the number two leader after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time, a feat not accom- plished in at least the last three decades? Well, truth be told, it is not so now, since he is not even a member of the parliamentary board of the BJP. There is only one Chief Minis- ter in the Parliamenta- ry Board, the highest decision making body in BJP and that is Shivraj Singh Chou- han. If Yogi Adityanath is included in the Par- liamentary Board, then it will be a big develop- ment, which is surely going to increase his stature. Notably, new members are to be nom- inated in the Parlia- mentary Board in the next few days. At present, the BJP Parliamentary Board has only seven members and except one, the rest are ex-officio members. The Party president, the Prime Minister, the for- mer Speaker, the Leader of both the Houses and the Organisation Gen- eral Secretary are the ex-officio members of the Parliamentary Board. In this regard, President JP Nadda, Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi, former Presi- dent- Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Amit Shah and Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh are ex-officio members. Apart from these, only Shivraj Sin- gh Chauhan is the only member who is not ex- officio. The Parliamen- tary Board has previ- ously had 12 members. In this context, the posts of five members are va- cant. Three members - Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Ananth Ku- mar - passed away , while VenkaiahNaidubecame the Vice President and Thaawarchand Gehlot became the Governor. By law, as the leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal should be its member, but the decision on this aspect will be taken lat- er. One woman and one Dalit or tribal member will get a place on the board. Among the wom- en leaders, the names of Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani are do- ing the rounds, while the name of Babulal Marandi is discussed from the tribal quota. Keep in mind that out of the seven members of the BJP’s parliamen- tary board, five are from the upper castes and two from the back- ward castes. So, the party has to increase the representation of the backward castes, bring in Dalit and Adi- vasi members and com- pulsorily have a woman on the board. If Parlia- mentary Board mem- bers are appointed on this scale then it will be difficult for Yogi to go to this apex body. If the Prime Minister makes him a member regard- less of the equation, then the way for him to become number two will be cleared. Will Yogi be included in BJP Parliamentary Board? Short clip of my address at the first ever conference of the Investigating Officers of CBI. SPIRITUAL SPEAK For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. —Bible IN-DEPTH FORGET OPPN UNITY, STALIN’S DELHI VISIT MADE FOR A GOOD PHOTO OPPORTUNITY amil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin used his Delhi visit to bring opposition par- tiestogethertoputup a united fight against the BJP . He took the initiative as the Con- gress, which is DMK’s ally in Ta- mil Nadu, is unable to put its house in order. Sonia Gandhi’s presence at the event may not mean much as also present were Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Ya- dav, representatives of Trina- mool Congress, Telugu Desam Party and Sitaram Yechury (CPI- M) --- who are averse to sharing a political front with the Congress. The gradual downslide in the Congress has fuelled the ambi- tions of regional satraps like Mamata Banerjee who thinks that her party can edge out the Congress. Having burnt its fin- gers by allying with the Con- gress in UP Assembly elections, even the Samajwadi Party is not comfortable in the company of Congress. None of the opposi- tion parties want to see the Con- gress in the leadership role. TOP TWEETS T akistan plunged into a constitu- tional crisis after Prime Minister Imran Khan ducked a floor test with the help of National Assembly’s deputy speaker who dis- missed the no-trust motion on the ground that it was part of a “foreign conspiracy” against the government. He immediately prorogued the House. Imran Khan, who did not attend the Assembly, im- mediately recommended dis- solution of the Assemblies and President Arif Alvi wasted no time to order fresh elections within 90 days. The move by Imran Khan stumped the opposition par- ties who had stacked num- bers to vote out the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party, something which has never happened in Pakistan’s cheq- uered history . The twist in Pakistan’s po- litical tale did not end there. As opposition members be- gan a dharna inside the House, outside the Pakistan Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the dis- solution. A special bench has been formed and the hearing will begin from Monday to decide if the dissolution of the Assembly without even a discussion on the no-trust motion violated the constitu- tion. That implies that Imran Khan is not off the hook yet. Pakistani army establish- ment has decided not to step in to sort things out just yet. There is apprehension, how- ever, that if there is too much of violence it could move in. Imran has cited US inter- ference in Pakistan’s affairs. He alleged that the no-trust motion was introduced a day after a meeting in which American officials and a Pa- kistani senator were present. Not many in Pakistan are willing to buy that argument. It was included in the empire of Ashoka Maurya who is cred- itedwiththefoundationof the city of Srinagar around the year 250 BC. During this peri- od Buddhism spread in Kash- mir and flourished under the Kushans, but Hinduism held itsswayintheregion.Thelast Hindu ruler of Kashmir was Udyan Dev but Queen Kota Rani was the de-facto ruler of the kingdom. The Hindu rule in Kashmir came to an end in 1339 with her death and Mus- lim rule was established un- derSultanShamas-ud-dinand his dynasty ruled the valley for 222 years. In 1819, Kashmir was an- nexed by Ranjit Singh and made a part of his Sikh em- pire. Later Kashmir transit- ed from British to DOGRAS and Maharaja Hari Singh ruled the state from 1925 to 1952. Maharaja Hari Singh placed Kashmir under the dominion of India by execut- ing an Instrument of Acces- sion on October 27, 1947. In 1956 Kashmir was integrated into the Indian Union under a new Constitution. However, PoK Kashmir continued to be under illegal occupation of Pakistan. Kashmir was a tourist’s paradise during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. How- ever, tourism in Kashmir de- clined during the late 1980’s and 1990’s, due to terrorism and disturbances. For years Article 370 and Article 35A held the erstwhile state from achieving its true potential. However, the Modi- Shah plan of annulment of Article 370 and the formation of two new union territories in 2019 has triggered the change and stabilising with time. The concerted effort by team Chi- nar Corps, other security forces and local people under the guidance of LG has defi- nitely stimulated the change. The government’s recon- struction plan for Kashmir with an outlay of approxi- mately Rs 24,000 crore, in the fields of infrastructure, edu- cation, health, civil ameni- ties, industrial promotion, employment and income gen- eration seems to be working for good. If over six lac tour- ists pouring into valley since 2021is an indication, then definitely the valley is wit- nessing winds of change. A seamless integration of security forces and special Indian Army initiate, the voices unheard for decades are finding expression in the conversations and platforms being provided to them at various levels. Discussions on future of violence-free Kashmir with integrated growth paradigms are re- peated rejection of terrorism and violence are underlining themes of these platforms. The incidents of glorifying a terrorist killed by SF have diminished. In a recent case a lady publically applauding Army and wishing her son to be an Army officer only au- thenticates the change. Operation Sadbhavana, a unique humane initiative un- dertaken by Indian Army in Kashmir to address aspira- tions of people affected by scrooge of terrorism, has pro- vided succour local popula- tion of the State and fast be- coming a landmark scheme for good of common people. Be it guarding Dharohar of Ashokas time, relentless ser- vice during floods in 2014 or reaching out to far flung are- as for basic needs of water and electricity , access to qual- ity education and basic health and hygiene the work by Indian army has been ex- emplary. Indian Army has established 46 Army Good- will Schools and there is a growing clamour from local population for opening schools in almost all corners of the State. Approximately 14,000 students are currently enrolled and close to one lakh children have obtained pri- mary/higher secondary lev- els quality education in last one and half decades of in- surgency. Many success sto- ries like of Shamima khatun of Baramullah, Ifra Sheikh of Badgam etc, now profes- sors in the history depart- ment of Kashmir University, is a testimony to the positive change, a society can experi- ence through the window of education. Because of these positive changes the radical space is shrinking and bigot- ed ideology is beginning to take a thorough beating. The Kashmir valley is now open for tourism and tourists are absolutely safe in Kash- mir. While interacting with locals in Srigufwara, Shikara operators in Dal Lake, Shop- keepers in Badgam, Guides in Gulmarg or students in Aru Valley , it emerged that people are more interested in their livelihood, growth and educa- tionratherthandisturbances. The country’s oldest party ranked first in the mat- ter of forfeiture of elec- toral bail. In ten seats, party candidates got less votes than NOTA. After such humiliat- ing defeat, the displea- sure of the party work- ers against the team handling the election management of the par- ty has increased mani- fold, while at the same time, the voices of re- bellion have also start- ed picking up. While the process of discussion within the party is not being started regarding the reasons for the de- feat, at the same time, the campaign to reorga- nize the state unit of the party is also hang- ing in the balance. Notably, the Priyan- ka-led Congress focused primarily on the ‘wom- en card’ in the elections. Avoiding alliance with any party, Congress fielded 399 candidates, out of which 387 forfeit- ed their deposits. In the worst-ever per- formance, the Congress won just two seats, Virendra Chaudhary won from Farenda seat of Maharajganj district and Aradhana Mishra Mona got victory from Rampur Khas seat of Pratapgarh in the re- cently concluded polls. Congress candidates came second in just four seats Mathura, Kidwai Nagar, Jagdish- pur and Khairagarh. Even though Congress was second in Mathura, difference of votes be- tween its candidate Pradeep Mathur and BJP’s candidate Shri- kant Sharma was more than one lakh. BJP headquarter in Delhi Rakesh Ranjan New Delhi: The De- partment of Revenue’s new roster for members of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes Cus- toms (CBIC) has caused a bit of surprise. The surprise is caused by the appoint- ment of Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (IRS CCE:1988) as the mem- ber in charge of compli- ance management as well as the supervising authority of DG of DRI and DG of GST Intelli- gence - two critical posi- tions. Previously, DRI was under Balesh Ku- mar. Earlier, even though Agarwal was appointed as a Member of CBIC, he was put on wait for an assignment. Howev- er, a month later on 31/03/2022, the govt al- located him critical portfolios. Agarwal’s new port- folios caused a change in the assignments of three members retiring within the next six months. DP Nagendra and Balesh Kumar and Sandeep Kumar will re- tire in July, August October respectively. The remaining 4-6 months of their residu- al service would be con- sumed in familiarizing themselves with new subjects. It is said that by ap- pointing Agarwal as the boss of all revenue in- telligence operations, the administration has shown its preference for an officer with the maximum residual ser- vice. This preference of the administration in favor of officers with the maximum residual service was earlier re- flected in the appoint- ment of Rajeev Talwar as a member. Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: Assembly elections are going to be held in Karnataka in May next year, but be- fore that the discussion has intensified that As- sembly elections can be held later this year. Keep in mind that As- sembly elections are go- ing to be held in two states Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat at the end of the year. That’s why many state Congress leaders are saying that elections can be held with them in Karnataka too. Kar- nataka Congress Presi- dent DK Shivakumar has claimed that elec- tion will be announced on November 27. Keep in mind that communal politics in State is at its peak. The row over hi- jab is still going on. This matter has been chal- lenged in the SC after the High Court’s ban on wearing hijab in school- college. Meanwhile, the govt has started imple- menting the decision of the HC. Because of this, the girl students had to remove hijab during the exams or had to skip it. A BJP MLA has raised another issue. He ap- pealed to Hindus not to eat Halal meat. The row overhijabandhalalmeat has increased. Key export sectors, which contributed to record growth, include petroleum products, engineering, gems and jewellery, chemicals and pharmaceuticals With surging exports, India to push its businesses abroad more boldly New Delhi (ANI): Buoyed by the recent surge in Indian goods exports which touched USD 400 billion this year, India will give further push to eco- nomic diplomacy and will market its business more boldly and openly across the globe, a sen- ior functionary of the government told ANI. India has recently inked crucial trade agreements with United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia. Talks with Israel, European Union and Britain are also progressing well, according to a senior official. Recently, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal indicated that several agreements will be inked by the end of 2022 Although he did not give any deadline, India- UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was concluded in record 88 days. India is expecting a major boost in two- way trade with Australia and UAE after the pacts. Earlier, India had walked out of Re- gional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations cit- ing national interests. India on the cusp of major economic recovery: Niti Aayog VC Rajiv Kumar New Delhi (PTI): In- dia is on the cusp of a major economic recov- ery and talks of possi- ble stagflation are “overhyped” as a strong economic foun- dation is being laid with the reforms car- ried out by the govern- ment over the last sev- en years, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Sunday . Notwithstanding economic uncertain- ties triggered by the Russia-Ukraine war that is also impacting global supply chains, Kumar asserted that it was quite clear from all accounts that India will remain the fastest growing economy in the world. “Given all the re- forms that we have done in the last seven years, and given that we are seeing the end of the COVID-19 pan- demic hopefully, and the 7.8 per cent rate of growth that we will get this year (2022-23), a very strong foundation is now being laid for further rapid in- crease in economic growth in the coming years,” Kumar told PTI in an interview. Asia’s third-largest economy is projected to grow 8.9 per cent in 2021-22, according to recent government data. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has pegged the eco- nomic growth rate for 2022-23 at 7.8 per cent. “So, I think India is on the cusp of a ma- jor economic recov- ery and economic growth,” Kumar said even as he acknowl- edged that because of the Russia-Ukraine war, India’s GDP growth projection could be revised. “But even then, In- dia will remain the fastest growing econo- my and all the other economic parameters are actually quite within the range,” he said. Russia started its military offensive against Ukraine on February 24. Western nations, including the US, have imposed ma- jor economic and vari- ous other sanctions on Russia following the offensive. On rising inflation, the Niti Aayog Vice Chairman said that RBI is keeping a close watch as per its man- date. ONGC to see $3 bn rise in earnings, Reliance $1.5 bn from gas price hike New Delhi (PTI): State- owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is likely to see a USD 3 billion (about Rs 23,000 crore) rise in its annual earnings from the more than doubling of the price of natural gas it produces, while Reliance Indus- tries may get USD 1.5 billion (Rs 11,500 crore) more in revenue, a re- port has said. The government from April 1 increased the gas price paid to producers of oil and regulated fields from USD 2.9 per million British thermal units to USD 6.10, a record high. For difficult fields, such as deepsea fields of Re- liance, the price has gone up by 62 per cent to USD 9.92 per mmBtu. Maruti Suzuki aims to sell 6L CNG units in FY22 New Delhi (PTI): The country’s largest car- maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) aims to sell 4-6 lakh CNG units in the current fiscal year depending upon supply situation of essential components, as per a senior company offi- cial. The company sold about 2.3 lakh CNG units in 2021-22. MSI currently sells nine of its 15 models with CNG powertrain and is look- ing to drive in more models with such tech- nology in the coming days. “It depends on availability (of essen- tial components). But we are looking at any number between 4 lakh and 6 lakh units in the current fiscal,” MSI Senior Executive Di- rector (Sales and Mar- keting) Shashank Sriv- astava told PTI in an interaction. He was replying to a query regarding the company’s sales projec- tions for the CNG seg- ment in current fiscal year. Srivastava noted that the share of CNG cars in its overall sales is bound to increase over the years as it plans to bring in more models with the alter- native fuel technology. “CNG volumes are now about 17 per cent of our overall sales. We have CNG in nine models and in those models their contribution is about 32-33 per cent,” he stated. Srivastava noted that there is a lot of interest among the consumers for CNG cars because of low running cost and con- tinuous increase in fuel cost. Over the last few years, MSI has wit- nessed growth in CNG car sales. It sold 74,000 units in 2016-17; around 1 lakh units in 2018-19; 1.05 lakh units in 2019- 20; and 1.62 lakh units in 2020-21. The auto major has stated in the past that the launch of its S-CNG vehicle range is aligned to and comple- ments the govern- ment’s vision of re- ducing oil import and enhancing the share of natural gas in the country’s primary en- ergy mix from 6.2 per cent now to 15 per cent by 2030. FPIs pulled out `41,000 crore in March New Delhi (PTI): Continuing their selling spree for the sixth consecutive month, foreign in- vestors pulled out a massive `41,000 crore from the In- dian equity market in March on antici- pation of rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve and the de- teriorating geopo- litical environment amid the Russia- Ukraine war. Further, flows from foreign portfo- lio investors (FPIs) are expected to re- main volatile in the near term given the headwinds in terms of elevated crude prices and infla- tion, experts said. RBIlikelytoretain interestratestoboost growth, sayanalysts Mumbai (PTI): The Re- serve Bank (RBI) is like- lytomaintainstatusquo on interest rates in its forthcoming monetary policy review but may change the stance in view of retail inflation piercing its upper toler- ance limit, global uncer- tainties created by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and the urgency to protect and boost growth, feel experts. The RBI Governor- headed rate setting panel — Monetary Pol- icy Committee (MPC) — will be holding its first meeting of the 2022-23 fiscal from April 6 to 8. The out- come will be an- nounced on April 8. Aditi Nayar, Chief Economist of ICRA Lim- ited,saidintheApril2022 policyreview, theMPCis expected to revise up its Consumer Price Index- based inflation forecast, whereas the growth pro- jectionsfor2022-23would be pared. “Nevertheless, the MPC is unlikely to sacri- fice growth to control imported inflation. With the upper threshold of the medium-term infla- tion target range being as high as 6 per cent, the MPC is likely to remain growth supportive for longerthanothercentral banks,” she said. FORECAST India's jobless rate falls to 7.6% in Mar from 8.1% in Feb: CMIE Kolkata (PTI): Unem- ployment rate in the country is decreasing with the economy slowly returning to normal, ac- cording to CMIE data. The Centre for Monitor- ing Indian Economy’s monthly time series data revealed that the over- all unemployment rate in India was 8.10 per cent in February 2022, which fell to 7.6 per cent in March. On April 2, the ratio further dropped to 7.5 per cent, with urban un- employment rate at 8.5 per cent and rural at 7.1 per cent. Retired professor of economics at Indian Sta- tistical Institute Abhirup Sarkar said that though the overall unemploy- ment rate is falling, it is still high for a “poor” country like India. The decrease in the ratio shows that the economy is getting back on track after being hit by COVID-19 for two years, he said. “But still, this unem- ployment rate is high for India which is a poor country,” Sarkar said. Amazon plea on FRL’s assets hearing today New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday the sub- missions of US e- commerce major Amazon, seeking an interim order to ensure that the Fu- ture Retail Limited (FRL) assets, in- cluding “Big Ba- zaar shops”, not be alienated till the dispute over its merger with Reli- ance Retail is de- cided by an arbitral tribunal. A bench com- prising Chief Jus- tice N V Ramana and justices Krish- na Murari and Hima Kohli, which had heard part ar- guments on Ama- zon’s plea on April 1, has posted the case for the conclu- sion of submis- sions on April 4.

Naidu, who is also Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, appealed to its members to engage in informed and construc- tive debates by keeping the welfare of the peo- ple in mind. “Greetings on Rajya Sabha Day! Ever since its inception, Rajya Sabha has played a cru- cial role in strengthen- ing parliamentary de- mocracy,” the Vice President Secretariat tweeted, quoting Naidu. “I would like to ap- peal to the members of Rajya Sabha to engage in informed con- structive debates by keeping the welfare of the people in mind,” he said. The Constituent As- sembly, which first met on December 9, 1946, also acted as the Cen- tral Legislature till 1950, when it was con- verted as ‘Provisional Parliament’. During this period, the Central Legislature, which was known as Constituent Assembly and later Pro- visional Parliament, was unicameral till the first elections were held in 1952. Extensive debate took place in the Con- stituent Assembly re- garding the utility or otherwise of a second chamber in independ- ent India and ultimate- ly, it was decided to have a bicameral legis- lature for independent India mainly because a federal system was considered to be most feasible form of gov- ernment for such a vast country with im- mense diversities. A second chamber known as the ‘Council of States’, therefore, was created with alto- gether different com- position and method of election from that of the directly elected House of the People. Apart from the elected members, pro- vision was also made for the nomination of 12 members to the House by the Presi- dent. The nomencla- ture “Rajya Sabha” was announced by the Chair in the House on August 23, 1954. The six RMs have been de- veloped in less than a year by NDTL in asso- ciation with the Nation- al Institute of Pharma- ceutical Education and Research (NIPER)- Guwahati and the CSIR- Indian Institute of Inte- grative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu. The RMs were launched by Union Min- ister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Sin- gh Thakur during the 15th Governing Body Meeting of NDTL, in the presence of Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi and other senior officials of the Sports Ministry . With the creation of these RMs NDTL has earned itself the recog- nition of being one of the few labs in the world where such RMs have been developed. Speaking about the achievement, Thakur said, “I applaud the sci- entists of the three in- stitutions who have worked tirelessly to cre- ate these reference ma- terials. These RMs are not readily available across the world but are needed by every WADA- accredited laboratory for their anti-doping analysis. India itself has been importing RMs from Canada and Australia, however, with this scientific de- velopment India has in- deed taken a step to- wards Atmanirbhar Bharat. He couldn’t win a seat in Uttar Pradesh, did you see his condi- tion in Uttarakhand, Goa? Sometimes they create an atmosphere via media but have nothing on the ground.” Lauding PM’s leader- ship, the minister called him the “world’s most loved leader” and said that the BJP gets votes “unilaterally” in his name wherever there are elections in the country. “At the end of the year, BJP will come again in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat as well. This has surprised many and also sparked specu- lations whether Guja- rat will hold state as- sembly polls early . Patil was to attend a community event in Ra- jkot on Sunday , when he informed organisers that he will only be able to address the event vir- tually. He cited his im- pending visit to Delhi as the reason for the change in plan. Sources say that he is going to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Patil will be dis- cussing election strate- gy and may even make firm plans of bringing in Congress MLAs into the party fold. They may even discuss cam- paign plans and star campaigners, they add- ed. However, Patil had told local media per- sons, “The State Elec- tion Commission (SEC) makes the decisions re- garding elections and no party can influence or pressure it. The BJP is not preparing for ear- ly elections and they will be held when the commission says so.” Koli community leaders of the Vir Mandhata Group met with Khodaldham Trust’s managing trustee Na- resh Patel on Sunday, and promised to extend their support to his political journey. Addressing media persons, the group’s leader Raju Solanki said, “Naresh Patel will have our full support and cooper- ation no matter which political party he joins. Good people are required in politics and if a person like him joins politics, it can change the whole path and bring about development for the people.” KOLI COMMUNITY THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND NARESH PATEL Khattar condemns Punjab’s resolution on Chandigarh First India Bureau Chandigarh: Con- demning a resolution moved in the Assembly seeking the transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, Haryana Chief Minis- ter Manohar Lal Khat- tar has demanded an apology from Aam Aad- mi Party (AAP) nation- al convener Arvind Ke- jriwal and Chief Minis- ter Bhagwant Mann. “Arvind Kejriwal should condemn it, or they should apologise to the people of Haryana. Punjab Chief Minister should also apologise to the people of Haryana. What they have done is condemnable,” he said. The Haryana Chief Minister further said that the Rajiv-Longowal Accord was signed 35-36 years ago and as per the Accord, Chandigarh is the capital of both Har- yana and Punjab. Khattar also asked Kejriwal to clarify his stand on the matter of the Sutlej-Yamuna link issue. “Arvind Kejriwal demands water on one side and does not want to give water on the oth- er. So he should clarify his stand in the matter of SYN,” he added. —With ANI inputs AAP benefits from agitations, even opposition parties agree to it! First India Bureau New Delhi: Experi- enced political strate- gists and observers have now come to pass that if the general public of the country agitate over an issue, it is the Aam Aad- mi Party (AAP) that benefits from it. It will sound strange but it is evident from the results of Delhi and Punjab and now the leaders of the party are also accepting it. Keep in mind that in 2011, Anna Hazare’s movement against cor- ruption took place in Delhi, after which the AAP was formed and in the very first elections it became the number two party of Delhi. After that, it did wonders in the next two elections. Congress remained at zero in two consecutive electionsandAAPgot67 and62seatsrespectively . A similar feat has been achieved in Punjab. Last year, there was a farmers’ movement. Al- though farmers from all over the country were involved in the move- ment, but mainly the farmers of Punjab and Haryana were agitat- ing. The Central Govt and the BJP’s IT cell also targeted the farm- ers of Punjab and termed them Khal- istani, Terrorist, Mawa- li, etc. When elections were held in Punjab just after that movement, AAP benefited hugely as it won on 93 of the 117 assembly seats. The Haryana assembly elec- tions are still some time away, otherwise AAP would have benefited there too. So, it’s be- lieved that if there’s any movement across the country regarding inflation, unemploy- ment etc., then instead of Congress, AAP will get the benefit of it.
