1. MOTIVATION LETTER
My name is Angkasa Putra from Indonesia. I am applying a place for M.Sc program on Marine
Science and Management in the UNSW (University of New South Wales) Sydney because I am very
interested in the topic of discussion related to it. My interest in this field first appeared while still in High
Fisheries School (one of vacation schools from Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries-Indonesia),
when I did the purification on the seeding and enlargement unit of fisheries, also one of subjects was marine
of management in aquaculture. I continued my undergraduate education in the Jakarta Technical University
of Fisheries (JTUF), Indonesia, which concentration of Aquaculture Technology.
During my study, I took Expertise Program for one and a half months, namely in 2018 with the
title, âWhite Shrimp Enlargement Technique on Mini Pond Plastic Scale Shrimp Cultivation, in the Field
Fisheries Training Administration, JTUF, Serang-Banten, Indonesiaâ. Furthermore, in the same year, I also
conducted Integration Program in one of the white shrimp enlargement companies in North Sumatra,
Indonesia, for two months, with the title of research-based practice: âKaizen and Fishbone Analysis
Approach to White Shrimp Enlargement Businessâ and in the last year of education, precisely in 2019
I conducted a Final Research for three months with the title âImproving Productivity of PANDU (Integrated
Rice and Black Tiger Shrimp Farming System) in Barru, South Celebesâ. In conducting the Final Research,
several approaches were involved to complete the objectives, such as increasing the productivity of black
tiger shrimp cultivation through the application of traditional systems based on the concept of brackish rice
mina which the program was the initiation of cooperative research conducted at the Research Institute for
Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries Extension (RICAFE) Maros, South Celebes, Indonesia: increasing
profits through the combination of fishery and agricultural concepts through saline rice commodities;
improving the skills and abilities of shrimp farmers by providing marine and fishery training. The output
of this research is very admirable because it is considered by the state as an important reference when
it comes to building Indonesian Fisheries. It also gave me the opportunity to become an outstanding student
and graduate with cum laude predicate and receive Adhi Karya Taruna award from campus.
In terms of organization experience in the university, I became the Chairman of the Cadet Senate
and Commander of Battalion 07 Barracuda JTUF also as Founder Commando Cabinet, Founder and
Chairman Association of Fisheries Students JTUF, also active in providing motivational seminars and
seminars related to the concentration of my education, both internal and external campus. After graduating,
precisely in 2019, I got a valuable opportunity from one of the national maritime youth organizations,
namely Indonesian Maritime Youths to become Director of Programs and Partnerships and in the following
year 2020, as a Young Expert in Aquaculture, where I got more opportunities to achieve my passion to
become a lecturer. My desire to become a lecturer is growing after becoming a Millennial Staff of
Aquaculture Research in 2020 in RICAFE Maros because I gained a lot of research experience, especially
related to shrimp. One of the steps to materialize my dream of becoming a lecturer is to continue my master's
degree, especially in the UNSW Sydney.
The international reputation for Marine Science and Management of the UNSW Sydney attracts
many students and I believe it can motivate the spirit of studying at the master's level. It also provides
excellent work and recreation facilities for graduate students, where it demonstrates a great commitment to
graduate students. I hope to achieve an outstanding score for my postgraduate and be able to achieve the
degree that I hope will show my academic ability in studying there. In addition, I am interested in the new
area/focus offered by the UNSW Sydney in supporting the development and management of the aquaculture
sector especially marine science. Therefore, it can provide a new perspective of economic and social factors,
leading to a deep understanding to increase optimal and sustainable fish production on a global scale.
Finally, after completing the M.Sc program in the UNSW Sydney, I plan to return to the country and
become a specialist lecturer in fisheries as well as do a lot of research, especially in the field of marine
science and management, with a view to creating further development and progress of sustainable
cultivation for Indonesia.
