BEING ASKED TO CHAIR this year’s sustainable and regenerative development, I
find myself constantly framing these meta perspectives: what does sustainability and
regeneration mean for community-based development?
Asaprofessionalcorporateresearcherforthepast20yearsstartingoutatSunLaboratory
where the original JavaSoftTeam created the Java programming language which is the
backbone of the internet, I know that this technology must be ubiquitous, accessible,
and dynamic. This is an inclusive mindset; an interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary
viewpoint in collaborations. Only in transformation will this be effective for community-
based development. In the past decade of focusing on “sustainable and regenerative”
(easy-to-doandsimple-to-share)researchanddevelopment,effectivenessisnotthereal
concern, but“affectiveness”–aneedforholisticperspectivetowardsevolutionarydesign
thinking must be addressed in our collaborative research and fusion developments.
In today’s global issues, holistic perspectives and collaborative mindset are the
furthest from our easy-to-do and simple-to-share solutions. Linear-based logical
thinking has only led us into 1) paralyzing rigidity and/or 2) ambiguity that inhibits
actions; most often creating conflicts. Without deep diving into the WHYS at these
two stagnancies, we have found from our action research that we must prepare for
these two“FEARS”and integrate solutions as a synthesis of clarity within one’s bearing
within their collective dynamics and still control the basis of personal evaluation. The
modalities of sustainable and regenerative community-based development must
have a detailed framework providing security for action; from defining individual
reporting relationships, which we consider to be “action research”, to facilitating
teamwork, and to removing all ambiguity that inhibits actions and/or fear of
paralyzing rigidity. This can be simply defined by providing space for autonomy,
clarifying interfaces between functions, and producing a score that has to be
interpreted. At all costs avoid the rigidity of excessive formalization and conflicts.
In this year’s abstract submissions, our synthesis is “acceptance and offerings” to
encourage all dynamics of sustainable and regenerative development—an inclusivity.
To be direct, we encourage actions of personal and transcultural relatedness in
promoting actions of research collaborations and fusion development. We are excited
at the opportunities to network and simply share – inspirations to take actions together.

The economic analysis and valuation of an MPA is useful to demonstrate and quantify its economic value
in terms of raw materials, protection of natural and human systems, and maintenance of options for future
economic production and growth, as well as the costs associated with the loss of these benefits through
resource degradation. The study made a preliminary assessment of the tourism and fishery benefit of the
Marine Protected Area of Brgy. Hugom, San Juan, Batangas identified the residents and visitors’ willingness
to pay (WTP) to support financial sustainability and conservation of MPA’s. Swimming, the most preferred
recreational activity was enjoyed by tourists as resort guests once they went for a day-trip with an average
cost of 1,005 pesos per person. Diving was the least preferred activity among the surveyed tourists whereas
none of them indicated its direct cost. In terms of fisheries, the average catch rate for Brgy Hugom was 5.35
kg per trip. Around 264 households engaged in fishing earning an average annual income of 35, 512.00
pesos in cash and an average annual income in kind of 10,242.00 pesos. There were 28 identified aquatic
species during the fisheries profiling in San Juan, Batangas and the pelagic species were the most diverse
and abundant. Results further showed that they are willing to allocate certain amount for the conservation
fund of the MPA. Data revealed that the community people agreed to pay 2 to 100 pesos while the tourists
were willing to pay 8 to 300 pesos per month. Based The tourists all agreed to allot 2 to 192 hours per month
while the residents were willing to extend 1 to 5 hours of their time per week all for the aim of conserving the
identified MPA.

The Sama-Bajaos, a nomad indigenous tribe, came to Bohol from Zamboanga in western Mindanao. Known as
“sea gypsies,” they lived on boat-houses along Tagbilaran Straight while living as mendicants on the streets and
ports of Tagbilaran City. This study aimed to look into the impact of the educational intervention program for the
Sama-Bajao community initiated by the Provincial Government of Bohol in collaboration with the University of Bohol
Graduate School and Professional Studies in 2007. As a qualitative research, this study stitches the narratives of
high school students, college graduates and their community leaders. The study made use of data analysis, Focus
Group Discussion (FGD), In-depth Interview (IDI) and Key Informant Interview (KII). The study found out that the
beneficiaries of the program are now included in the formal educational programs. The community has produced
college graduates in recent years who are now working for their community. The study established that the program
has made a significant impact in the lives of the beneficiaries, their families and community. Narratives of hope and
success are integrated in the write-up to highlight the importance of inclusivity in education that provides equity in
terms of knowledge-acquisition, talent and skills development, and opportunities for gainful employment among the
cultural minorities.

The study was conducted to determine the effect of Fish Amino Acid (FAA) at different frequency of application under
field condition. The Experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block design (RCBD) with five treatments,
replicated three times. The treatments evaluated were as follows: no application (T1); everyday two days (T2); every
four days (T3); every six days (T4); and every eight days (T5). Effectiveness of such treatments was based on
average plant height of harvest, average number of marketable leaves per plant at harvest, average leaf area of
plants per harvest (cm2-), average fresh weight of RS Plants at Harvest (kg), weight of plants per sampling area (SA)
in kg, and computed yield per hectare of pechay. Based on the result of the study T2 garnered the highest mean on
plant height followed by T3, T4, T5 and T1 respectively. The result on the number of marketable leaves per plant did
not vary with each other that range from 6.07 to 7.01. T2 obtained the highest mean on the longer leaf area and fresh
weight of plants. On the other hand, T1 obtained the lightest mean on the computed plant yield per hectare. On the
study, fish amino acid (FAA) application is recommended for better results in terms of plant height, leaf area, weight,
and yield per hectare.

National Achievement Test (NAT) of the Department of Education is designed to determine the learner’s achievement
level, strengths, and weaknesses in five curricular subject areas at the end of each school year. The purpose of this
study is to know the relationship between academic performance in Mathematics and NAT results of the students
in the University of Bohol-Victoriano D. Tirol-Advanced Learning Center (UB-VDT-ALC). A purposive universal
sampling was used in the study. It is purposive because the research is only studying the academic performance
in Mathematics, and universal because the subjects of the study are all the grade six pupils of the UB-VDT-ALC for
four consecutive school years. Documentary analysis was used as to the data of existing records on the academic
performance and NAT results in Mathematics. Correlation analysis and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were
used to determine the relationship between academic performance and NAT results in Mathematics. The analyses
revealed that there was a significant correlation between the pupil’s academic performance and NAT results. Also,
there was a significant degree of variance in the student’s performance as to National Achievement Test Results in
four consecutive school years.

Cogon Flea Market of Cogon district is a Vibrant Center of Tagbilaran City and is facing threats with regards to its
morphological aspects. The quality of being vibrant is based on the proximity of the daily surplus needs and other
destinations that are essential to everyday life to residents, these destinations are walkable. This paper’s inclination is
more focused on the intangible values which are of social aspects and the corresponding functions. The paper made
us use extensive review of related literature, desk review of local ordinances, oral interviews of Boholano historical
expert as well as residents of the surround area of the place, and site evaluation. Findings show a discrepancy on
the ordinance created with the functions of the vibrancy of the area, particularly on the ‘walkability’ to meet the surplus
need of the local residents, addressing the traffic congestion. In a macro sense, it affects the quality of life in the
following perspectives, namely, smart growth, economic implications, health and well-being. The impact of this results
suggest that if the morphological aspect of the area which was partially changed, resulted to the ripple effect that the
center lost its intended function.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder comprises a range of behavior problems including impulsiveness,
inattentiveness, and hyperactivity. It should also be stressed that ADHD itself has no effect on intelligence. Children
with this condition are often intelligent, creative and enthusiastic and when their energy is directed constructively they
can become high achievers. However, the problems of ADHD are often found to prevent children from learning and
socializing and can cause difficulties both at school and home. This research recognizes the pivotal role of the parent
in managing the behavior of children. Since AD/HD is widely regarded as a biologically-based disorder characterized
by specific deficits in functioning, the researcher believes that this study would help the parents in the understanding
of the nature as well as the intervention and management of children withAD/HD. In depth semi-detailed interview was
utilized to gather relevant data from the parent regarding on the role and the challenges she faced in managing her
child with ADHD. Likewise, it is important to examine what intervention techniques used which could be the baseline
information for an intervention program. This research shows that children with ADHD have greater development with
active parental involvement, engagement, support group, and collaborations.

The study was conducted to evaluate the acaricidal effect of Neem Tree Leaf Extract (Azadirachta indica) using
varying levels of concentrations at different lengths of exposure and to compare its efficacy with Organophosphate.
The Experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD)with five treatments, replicated three times.
The treatments evaluated were as follows: T1
– Organophosphate (Control); T2
– 25% Neem Tree Leaf Extract; T3
– 50% Neem Tree Leaf Extract; T4
– 75% Neem Tree Leaf Extract; and T5
– 100% Neem Tree Leaf Extract. Filter
papers were dipped with the extracts and matted in Petri dishes. The ticks were placed in the treated filter papers
with corresponding levels of Neem Tree Leaf Extract. There were three observations (60, 90 and 120 minutes)
used to determine the effect and the killing duration of the extract. Based from the result of the study, the use of
Organophosphate (control) was statistically similar to that of 100 percent Neem Tree Leaf Extract in killing ticks at
a maximum length of one hundred twenty minutes exposure. Hence, it is recommended that the extract should be
incorporated into soap or shampoo with the same line of study for further research. Also, an in vivo study should be
conducted to determine the efficacy of Neem tree as an anthelmintic agent.

Round-the-clock establishments are no longer just for manufacturing but for raising productivity, and for lowering
costs in a wide-range of industries. This study looked into the nature and operation of 24-hour convenience stores in
Tagbilaran City, Bohol, with the objective to provide proper guidance and adequate information for entrepreneurs who
are planning to increase and expand 24-hour convenience stores within the city. Researchers utilized quantitative
method with purposive sampling design with managers or proprietors and the convenient sampling design with 48
customers of such five stores. Data were treated using percentages, weighted mean, t-test, and chi-square. Results
showed that store owners made maximum use of time, equipment, and people; designed solutions to costly problems
of morale, health, safety, care for employees through benefits; and the disadvantages and advantages of running
24-hour convenience stores. The findings suggested that though the customers’ convenience of not being rushed
due to fear of closing hours, the need for the huge investment coupled with the challenge of getting employees willing
to work on midnight shifts made these convenient stores intricate businesses to start. The study found that contrary
to general belief; those stores do not guarantee any economic stability during National Economic crisis. Such stores
also do not help last minute customers, given limited commodities.

Significant life events are bound to happen at any phase in life. The aging process alone brings about a lot of life events
that are inevitable. The biologic and social theories of aging explain this phenomenon. This study aimed to validate
the proposition of the theory which states that life events affect change. This research is qualitative in nature that
employed interpretative phenomenology, utilizing Hermeneutic approach in the data gathering. The informants were
the seven elderlies from the first district of Bohol, age 60 years old and above chosen through random sampling. An
in-depth interview was conducted to gather the data which focused on the life events experienced by the informants
and how it affected change. The data were transcribed, interpreted and analyzed to come up with the common
meaning of the lived experience. The findings of the study pointed out to four themes; 1. Advancing age, declining
health, and vanishing resources, 2. Retirement: the inevitable moment and uncertainty of what lies ahead, 3. the loss
of a loved one and the accompanying pain and 4. The moment of change and living with life’s changes. These four
themes explain the conclusion that the aging process brings about significant events such as the decline in health,
uncertainty in retirement, and the possible loss of loved ones. These events are so impactful that it affected change
to the individual in every aspect of their lives.

Nori is an edible dried seaweed used in Japanese Sushi dishes. It is made from red algae (Porphyra) and is processed
and imported mainly from Japan, Korea, and China. The technology and environmental conditions necessary for the
sustained and mass production of Nori limits the Philippines despite its abundant supply of Porphyra. This situation
contributes to higher retail prices of Sushi. Gatchalian and De Leon’s (1992) Product Improvement Concept was
adopted to experiment on a Sushi wrap from Jute (Corchorus olitorius). Locally termed Saluyot, Jute is highly
prized for its fiber and nutritious content. Thirty (30) respondents at a local university gave a higher rating to the
Jute Sushi regarding appearance, aroma, taste, and texture compared to the standard Nori Sushi. T-test results
showed no significant difference between the two samples, which confirms Jute to be a viable substitute for Nori.
Recommendations to improve the taste of the product and conduct studies on shelf life and commerciality are
proposed. If mass produced, this product offers a cheaper alternative for Nori and can add income for Jute farmers,
processed food manufacturers and retailers.

With increasing venture in tilapia production, there is a need to focus on its seed production.Alimitation in tilapia seed
production is the effect of climate change; wherein, the temperature had increased beyond favorable level during
summer period leading to low seed production. This problem can be addressed through pond deepening, higher
water level, frequent water exchange, or shading. The study evaluated the effect of shading on water temperature
and tilapia seed production in the hapa-in-pond system. There were two trials conducted during the dry season, and
the treatments were: no shading (NoS); top-portion covered (TopS); half of top-portion covered (HalfS); top and sides
covered (TotalS). Four hapas, as replications, were installed in each pond. There were 24 breeders stocked in each
hapa with 1♂:3♀ sex ratio, and collected the eggs/fry after 14 days. Water temperature in NoS reached around 36°C
during the hottest while shading reduced the water temperature by 3°C. Total seed production in TotalS and TopS
were significantly higher (P<0.05) than NoS. Using TopS, the estimated return on investment was 14%/cycle and
payback period in 7 cycles/1.5 years. Shading the pond is technically and economically viable, and an answer for
reducing water temperature and increasing tilapia seed production.

Asian Psychological Services and Assessment (APSA) is an institution conducting a diagnostic test of core subjects
that includes the Mathematics. Taking into account the importance of the subject, the researcher conducted a study
on the students’ mathematics performance. The study sought to find if mathematics grade is a predictor of APSA
rating by testing the relationship between mathematics final grade and APSA diagnostic test results. The researcher
employed the quantitative method using documentary analysis on the existing records as to academic performance
and APSA result. The subjects of the study were the 587 students of University of Bohol High School across the four
grade levels. The data obtained were then subjected to statistical treatments using coefficient of correlation, t-test,
and analysis of variance. Results revealed that there was a significant correlation between the grades &APSAresults
in mathematics, and APSA results in the four levels significantly vary. This simply means that students with low final
grades in math are likely to obtain low APSA rating. The variance in the APSA results among the four levels implies
that the trend differs- distributions of proficiency were different in the four levels.

Located between Lipa City which is known for its rich history and San Juan which is known for its beaches, Padre
Garcia, Batangas has been left behind in the tourism sector though it has been popular among cattle traders with its
largest livestock auction market in the Philippines. With the lack of tourism strategies for the town, the researchers
chose to promote the tourism in Padre Garcia through T-shirt designing. The researchers used quantitative research
to determine the most preferred T-shirt design of the local officials, students and teachers. Five approved designs by
the Department of Tourism of Padre Garcia were produced to represent the tourism industry of Padre Garcia. Using
descriptive-survey through written questionnaire, it determined the quality of the design, image of Padre Garcia, and
the most preferred T-shirt design by the respondents. The findings show that Padre Garcia municipal employees
and Grade-12 students have the same preferred design which is “Kabakahan Shirt” while Padre Garcia National
High School teachers preferred “Garcianos’ Church”. The T-shirt designs will enhance the image of Padre Garcia,
Batangas.

The study describes the morphosyntactic features of English variety in Davao City. In attaining this purpose, I used
structural analysis of qualitative research method. In ensuring its trustworthiness, I used some samples from multiple
sources of corpora found in this city, analyzed, and classified them according to genres, such as student composition,
print media, virtual communication, billboard ads, and office communication. After analyzing the samples, I discovered
that that the morphological features of the English variety were prominently affixation (prefixation e.g., gina-close,
paglunch, naopen, nagpositive, ipa-discharge) and borrowing (transliteration into dialect orthography, e.g., …who
was my inspairation; our guest pls. do not inter; hill side dreep wood furniture). The syntactic features, on the other
hand, were dominantly run-ons (comma splice: “It starts in the acquaintance party, then sa assemblies, then aside
from that…”), verb-tense inconsistency (e.g., “As we do our activity this morning, I was able to learn many strategies
…”), and wordiness (e.g., “I would like to take this opportunity to briefly explain our publication process.”). These
findings made me conclude that the emergence of these peculiarities was brought about by the influence of Visayan
language in the region. Hence, the emergence of this new variety of Philippine English could be identified as localized
English.

This study dealt with multiple intelligences in relation to the level of learning competencies of grade four pupils in
St. Tomas, District in the Division of Batangas. One hundred fifty respondents came participated in the survey. The
salient findings of the study were as follows: most of the respondents were aged nine years old, female, high school
graduates, learned the use of songs in studying and most like singing and sports. It was revealed that in the level of
multiple intelligences of the respondents, most the pupils’ responses were “usually like me’. In the level of learning
competencies, the results showed that the respondents had scores 24-30 which is equivalent to “very good” in
reading competency. In writing test, it was revealed that 69 of the respondents got an excellent out of 43 items. The
study found out that the ages of respondents were not significantly related to reading and writing competencies. The
correlation between respondents profile and their learning competencies, it showed that personal related factors of
pupils, gender, ethnic origin and career inner choice were the only variables that are significantly related to reading
competencies. From among the eight MI, only visual-spatial, bodily kinesthetic and naturalist MI were not significantly
related to the learning competency in reading. However, intrapersonal intelligence showed significant relationship with
the learning competency in writing.

The abandoned mine site at Puerto Princesa City was the Palawan Quicksilver Mine Inc. which operated from the
year 1954 to 1976, having mercury as the mining interest. About half of the waste generated had been dumped into
Purok Honda Bay, Puerto Princesa City to construct a jetty, which was used as a mining port. (Gray JE, et al 2003).
This study aimed to determine the mercury level at the soil (the land surrounding the pit-lagoon) of the abandoned
mine site in this present time, including the awareness of the nearby community to the state of the abandoned mine.
Four soil samples had been gathered from the study area. The soil analysis about its mercury concentration had an
average result of 40.26mg/kg, which exceeded the DENR’s standard mercury level in the soil which is 0.05mg/kg. The
community near the remains of the abandoned mine site are oblivious to the soil contamination and further believe
that the mercury in the soil is relatively low in the environment. That is with their reasons of not having unusual health
illness, and for their past years of settlement near the abandoned mine site, they did not experience any particular
epidemic occurred in their area

Risk Reduction is vital for building a more equitable future, for reducing the severity of losses during disaster, through
disaster risk management program. The primary study aimed to determine the level of compliance on the school
risk reduction and disaster preparedness program among the public secondary schools in the District of Buenavista,
Province of Bohol. It further sought to determine the level of compliance in the different aspects of safe learning
facilities, school disaster management and disaster risk reduction in education; and problems encountered on the
implementation of the program as far as the financial, human and technical aspects are concerned. It employed
quantitative method thru survey questionnaire anchored on the instruments developed by Department of Education
School DRRM Manual. Findings revealed that schools had good compliance level on disaster preparedness.
However, implementation problems encountered were lack of training materials and venues, handbook or guidelines
and trainings among the school disaster risk reduction management team. The difference in the compliance level
when teachers are grouped according to school assignment varied for each school; and there was a significant
variation on the three aspects of problems encountered. Despite the challenges encountered, teachers and students
are in agreement that the public secondary schools complied the program.

Child sex tourism refers to a child sexual abuse wherein perpetrators are identified as tourists in the place where the
child came from. This study intended to determine the level of awareness among the stakeholders in the province of
Bohol on child sex tourism. Utilizing a quantitative method approach with the aid of survey questionnaire, the study
involved 316 stakeholders from the Local Government Unit (LGU), Philippine National Police (PNP), and resort
owners and employees. The study revealed that the stakeholders were moderately aware of child sex tourism in
the province. Using Chi-Square analysis, it was found out that there was no significant relationship between the
respondents’ profile and their level of awareness, while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) analysis revealed that there
was no variance with the stakeholders level of awareness on child sex tourism when grouped per sector. Findings
of this study encouraged reinforcement of evidence-based advocacy and lobby action to improve child protection
policies in the province.

Teachers experience some challenges problems in their daily life, either in school or outside. Employing the descriptive
research, the study made use of the quantitative approach, as it involved gathering of survey primary data that include
demographic profile of the respondents and their perceived life satisfaction and adaptive coping mechanisms applied
through the use of researcher-made questionnaire. It was found out that majority of the respondents were in the 36-45
and 46 to 55 age groups, female, married, with permanent employment status, with monthly income of 25,000 and
below, Bachelors degree holder, and with 1-3 children. The teacher respondents have relatively high life satisfaction.
Psychological coping mechanisms were utilized to a high extent while physiological and social coping mechanisms
were utilized to a moderate extent. A community extension program is put forward as a fitting coping mechanism
mentoring program as it shall capitalize on the seemingly successful coping done by the respondents to be of service
to the community.

“Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program: A Qualitative Investigation” explored the encounters of beneficiaries,
teachers and school heads of DEPEd Elementary schools before and after 4Ps implementation. Utilizing qualitative
phenomenological tradition, the results revealed that before 4Ps implementation, the lives of recipients were uphill
and tough. They could barely provide the basic needs of their family as well as their requirements of their children in
school. However, after 4Ps implementation, their lives have become better since they get cash grants that capacitate
them to supply their family’s needs. These were confirmed by the testimonies of school teachers and their heads
who admitted that before the implementation of 4Ps, they found the children of 4Ps recipients non-compliant with
school requirements and sporadic in class participation. They even added that they found them engage their
children in labour. However, after 4Ps implementation, they observed improvement on these children’s attendance
and involvement in school undertaking. Surprisingly, however, they disclosed amid FGD that the grants were being
diverted by some beneficiaries. Based on these findings, I saw the importance of strict implementation and regular
monitoring of the social protection programs across the Philippines especially in Mindanao by the appointed agencies
of the government, and appropriate legal actions against those beneficiaries who go overboard might be considered.

Tourism as a global phenomenon, has become a basic need and a part of human rights, which must be respected
and protected. This has led to international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank and the World
Tourism Organization (WTO), recognizing that tourism is an integral part of human life, especially with regard to social
and economic activities. Various attractions and tourism activities in Bali cause business movement in various fields,
including investment. However, in carrying out investment activities in the field of tourism, the community has a role
as a party that runs tourism activities owned by tourism entrepreneurs, and on the other hand the government has
a role to determine the direction of policy in the field of tourism that cannot be released with local wisdom applicable
in each respectively. Local life that lives and develops in the community in Bali is one of the main foundations for the
development of tourism in Bali, in other words local wisdom cannot be separated from the successful development of
tourism in Bali. The value of local wisdom adopted by this community can be used as a filter in maintaining the culture
of society and the sustainability of sustainable tourism economy. This concept is a concept based on the principle of
harmony or harmony of life which consists of three interrelated elements that are universally called Tri Hita Karana.

serves as the respondents of this inquiry. Generally, the findings connote that in terms of human relation the pupils
viewed that their teachers treated them with utmost concern and played the role of second parents. All the discipline
practices such as assertive, positive and preventive are found not significantly related to pupils’ behavior toward their
studies. Because of the significant influenced of human relations to the pupils behavior, inclusions of various activities
involving parents in the plan of activities of the school may prove to be very beneficial to strengthen the ties between
and among parents, teachers and pupils, hence camaraderie and collaborative effort will be develop among them and
therefore will work cooperatively for the welfare of the children.

The water quality of Day-asan Mangrove Forest Area in Surigao City, Philippines was assessed by conducting
physicochemical, microbiological, and heavy metal analyses of water samples. Water sampling was conducted
in three sampling stations: (1) Residential, (2) Commercial, and (3) Untouched from July 2017 to January 2018.
Results were compared to the standard limits for Class SB waters set under Water Quality Guidelines and General
Effluent Standards. The high pH in three stations exceeded the permissible limits which could be attributed to high
concentration of dissolved solids. Dissolved oxygen values were below the minimum parameters which could be
resulted from high fecal coliform in the areas. Other physicochemical parameters such as Chlorides, Oil and Grease,
Phosphate concentrations, Salinity, Temperature, and Total Suspended Solids were within the DENR standards for
Class SB waters. Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform Counts exceeded the minimum limits in three stations throughout
the sampling period. Presence of heavy metals such Zinc, Copper, and Lead was not detected based on the Limit
of Detections of the instruments used. Overall analysis revealed that water quality was declining in Residential
and Commercial areas due to the relatively high discharge of wastes from households and fish cages with dense
population.

  • 4. 2 Asian Conference on Sustainable and Regenerative Development 2018 April 9-11, 2018 • BluewaterPanglao, Panglao, Bohol, Philippines message BEING ASKED TO CHAIR this year’s sustainable and regenerative development, I find myself constantly framing these meta perspectives: what does sustainability and regeneration mean for community-based development? Asaprofessionalcorporateresearcherforthepast20yearsstartingoutatSunLaboratory where the original JavaSoftTeam created the Java programming language which is the backbone of the internet, I know that this technology must be ubiquitous, accessible, and dynamic. This is an inclusive mindset; an interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary viewpoint in collaborations. Only in transformation will this be effective for community- based development. In the past decade of focusing on “sustainable and regenerative” (easy-to-doandsimple-to-share)researchanddevelopment,effectivenessisnotthereal concern, but“affectiveness”–aneedforholisticperspectivetowardsevolutionarydesign thinking must be addressed in our collaborative research and fusion developments. In today’s global issues, holistic perspectives and collaborative mindset are the furthest from our easy-to-do and simple-to-share solutions. Linear-based logical thinking has only led us into 1) paralyzing rigidity and/or 2) ambiguity that inhibits actions; most often creating conflicts. Without deep diving into the WHYS at these two stagnancies, we have found from our action research that we must prepare for these two“FEARS”and integrate solutions as a synthesis of clarity within one’s bearing within their collective dynamics and still control the basis of personal evaluation. The modalities of sustainable and regenerative community-based development must have a detailed framework providing security for action; from defining individual reporting relationships, which we consider to be “action research”, to facilitating teamwork, and to removing all ambiguity that inhibits actions and/or fear of paralyzing rigidity. This can be simply defined by providing space for autonomy, clarifying interfaces between functions, and producing a score that has to be interpreted. At all costs avoid the rigidity of excessive formalization and conflicts. In this year’s abstract submissions, our synthesis is “acceptance and offerings” to encourage all dynamics of sustainable and regenerative development—an inclusivity. To be direct, we encourage actions of personal and transcultural relatedness in promoting actions of research collaborations and fusion development. We are excited at the opportunities to network and simply share – inspirations to take actions together. PROF. HAI DAI NGUYEN Conference Chair ACSRD 2018 WOW Bali International Initiative Co-Founder and Creative Director

LUNAR http://orcid.org/0000-0002-0049-1829 colonelc4b@yahoo.com De La Salle Lipa Philippines The economic analysis and valuation of an MPA is useful to demonstrate and quantify its economic value in terms of raw materials, protection of natural and human systems, and maintenance of options for future economic production and growth, as well as the costs associated with the loss of these benefits through resource degradation. The study made a preliminary assessment of the tourism and fishery benefit of the Marine Protected Area of Brgy. Hugom, San Juan, Batangas identified the residents and visitors’ willingness to pay (WTP) to support financial sustainability and conservation of MPA’s. Swimming, the most preferred recreational activity was enjoyed by tourists as resort guests once they went for a day-trip with an average cost of 1,005 pesos per person. Diving was the least preferred activity among the surveyed tourists whereas none of them indicated its direct cost. In terms of fisheries, the average catch rate for Brgy Hugom was 5.35 kg per trip. Around 264 households engaged in fishing earning an average annual income of 35, 512.00 pesos in cash and an average annual income in kind of 10,242.00 pesos. There were 28 identified aquatic species during the fisheries profiling in San Juan, Batangas and the pelagic species were the most diverse and abundant. Results further showed that they are willing to allocate certain amount for the conservation fund of the MPA. Data revealed that the community people agreed to pay 2 to 100 pesos while the tourists were willing to pay 8 to 300 pesos per month. Based The tourists all agreed to allot 2 to 192 hours per month while the residents were willing to extend 1 to 5 hours of their time per week all for the aim of conserving the identified MPA. It should also be stressed that ADHD itself has no effect on intelligence. Children with this condition are often intelligent, creative and enthusiastic and when their energy is directed constructively they can become high achievers. However, the problems of ADHD are often found to prevent children from learning and socializing and can cause difficulties both at school and home. This research recognizes the pivotal role of the parent in managing the behavior of children. Since AD/HD is widely regarded as a biologically-based disorder characterized by specific deficits in functioning, the researcher believes that this study would help the parents in the understanding of the nature as well as the intervention and management of children withAD/HD. In depth semi-detailed interview was utilized to gather relevant data from the parent regarding on the role and the challenges she faced in managing her child with ADHD. Likewise, it is important to examine what intervention techniques used which could be the baseline information for an intervention program. CASTRO http://orcid.org/0000-0002-3292-7551 mariapaz0611@gmail.com Our Lady of Fatima University Philippines Nori is an edible dried seaweed used in Japanese Sushi dishes. It is made from red algae (Porphyra) and is processed and imported mainly from Japan, Korea, and China. The technology and environmental conditions necessary for the sustained and mass production of Nori limits the Philippines despite its abundant supply of Porphyra. This situation contributes to higher retail prices of Sushi. Gatchalian and De Leon’s (1992) Product Improvement Concept was adopted to experiment on a Sushi wrap from Jute (Corchorus olitorius). Locally termed Saluyot, Jute is highly prized for its fiber and nutritious content. Thirty (30) respondents at a local university gave a higher rating to the Jute Sushi regarding appearance, aroma, taste, and texture compared to the standard Nori Sushi. T-test results showed no significant difference between the two samples, which confirms Jute to be a viable substitute for Nori. Recommendations to improve the taste of the product and conduct studies on shelf life and commerciality are proposed. If mass produced, this product offers a cheaper alternative for Nori and can add income for Jute farmers, processed food manufacturers and retailers. This problem can be addressed through pond deepening, higher water level, frequent water exchange, or shading. The study evaluated the effect of shading on water temperature and tilapia seed production in the hapa-in-pond system. There were two trials conducted during the dry season, and the treatments were: no shading (NoS); top-portion covered (TopS); half of top-portion covered (HalfS); top and sides covered (TotalS). Four hapas, as replications, were installed in each pond. There were 24 breeders stocked in each hapa with 1♂:3♀ sex ratio, and collected the eggs/fry after 14 days. Water temperature in NoS reached around 36°C during the hottest while shading reduced the water temperature by 3°C. Total seed production in TotalS and TopS were significantly higher (P<0.05) than NoS. Using TopS, the estimated return on investment was 14%/cycle and payback period in 7 cycles/1.5 years. Shading the pond is technically and economically viable, and an answer for reducing water temperature and increasing tilapia seed production. It aims to promote sustainable and regenerative development. Specifically, it aims to revive the former multi-awarded I.K. project for the benefit of both I.K. and non- I.K. communities on a sustainable manner. Data were gathered from field surveys and focus group discussions. Respondents were comprised of 20 fisher folks and their family members from the area of the I.K. project. Survey results revealed that the community members were able to identify the benefits of the mangroves in their community; and, understand the importance of conservation, protection of mangroves and their benefits as fish habitat and protection from storm. Data also revealed that the practices of different culture, fishing and harvest methods as well as fishing gears were utilized in the community. Further, the I.K. community members are fully aware of the benefits of the coastal resource management efforts directed to their area and hope for a continuing implementation of these programs for the future generation. Results from these surveys can be used to employ a novel approach of integrating culture and the arts on sustaining the fisheries conservation, protection and management practices being observed in the area. Instead of disposing such waste, the researchers viewed it as a source of building material and eventually as a means to promote tourism in the said municipality. The study aimed to determine bricks from cow manure’s efficiency and durability compared with traditional building materials. It further sought to ascertain the investment potential of the cow manure brick. Using surveys and semi-structured interviews with farmers and construction experts, the study concluded that cow manure bricks are possible construction materials. An assessment cost showed that cow manure bricks are 30% cheaper than the commercialized hollow blocks. In a drop test of both cow manure bricks and commercial hollow blocks, evaluators concluded that bricks are stronger than hollow blocks. With these results, the respondents recommended that cow manure bricks can be used initially as a material for fence. Finally, cow manure bricks are environmentally-friendly due to its organic material. DAYON http://orcid.org/0000-0001-6553-2743 charliedayon2@gmail.com Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology Philippines The study describes the morphosyntactic features of English variety in Davao City. In attaining this purpose, I used structural analysis of qualitative research method. In ensuring its trustworthiness, I used some samples from multiple sources of corpora found in this city, analyzed, and classified them according to genres, such as student composition, print media, virtual communication, billboard ads, and office communication. After analyzing the samples, I discovered that that the morphological features of the English variety were prominently affixation (prefixation e.g., gina-close, paglunch, naopen, nagpositive, ipa-discharge) and borrowing (transliteration into dialect orthography, e.g., …who was my inspairation; our guest pls. do not inter; hill side dreep wood furniture). The syntactic features, on the other hand, were dominantly run-ons (comma splice: “It starts in the acquaintance party, then sa assemblies, then aside from that…”), verb-tense inconsistency (e.g., “As we do our activity this morning, I was able to learn many strategies …”), and wordiness (e.g., “I would like to take this opportunity to briefly explain our publication process.”). These findings made me conclude that the emergence of these peculiarities was brought about by the influence of Visayan language in the region. Hence, the emergence of this new variety of Philippine English could be identified as localized English. Utilizing qualitative phenomenological tradition, the results revealed that before 4Ps implementation, the lives of recipients were uphill and tough. They could barely provide the basic needs of their family as well as their requirements of their children in school. However, after 4Ps implementation, their lives have become better since they get cash grants that capacitate them to supply their family’s needs. These were confirmed by the testimonies of school teachers and their heads who admitted that before the implementation of 4Ps, they found the children of 4Ps recipients non-compliant with school requirements and sporadic in class participation. They even added that they found them engage their children in labour. However, after 4Ps implementation, they observed improvement on these children’s attendance and involvement in school undertaking. Surprisingly, however, they disclosed amid FGD that the grants were being diverted by some beneficiaries. Y. 2011-2012. The descriptive research design was employed in this study. The data and information were obtained from ninety grade six pupils who are presently enrolled at Balayhangin Elementary School, Calauan, Laguna, who serves as the respondents of this inquiry. Generally, the findings connote that in terms of human relation the pupils viewed that their teachers treated them with utmost concern and played the role of second parents. All the discipline practices such as assertive, positive and preventive are found not significantly related to pupils’ behavior toward their studies. Because of the significant influenced of human relations to the pupils behavior, inclusions of various activities involving parents in the plan of activities of the school may prove to be very beneficial to strengthen the ties between and among parents, teachers and pupils, hence camaraderie and collaborative effort will be develop among them and therefore will work cooperatively for the welfare of the children. Water sampling was conducted in three sampling stations: (1) Residential, (2) Commercial, and (3) Untouched from July 2017 to January 2018. Results were compared to the standard limits for Class SB waters set under Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards. The high pH in three stations exceeded the permissible limits which could be attributed to high concentration of dissolved solids. Dissolved oxygen values were below the minimum parameters which could be resulted from high fecal coliform in the areas. Other physicochemical parameters such as Chlorides, Oil and Grease, Phosphate concentrations, Salinity, Temperature, and Total Suspended Solids were within the DENR standards for Class SB waters. Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform Counts exceeded the minimum limits in three stations throughout the sampling period. Presence of heavy metals such Zinc, Copper, and Lead was not detected based on the Limit of Detections of the instruments used. Overall analysis revealed that water quality was declining in Residential and Commercial areas due to the relatively high discharge of wastes from households and fish cages with dense population.
