HISTORY – it is the umbrella term that relates to the past events
as well as the memory, discovery, collection, organization,
presentation and interpretation of information about these events.
RESEARCH – is a careful and detailed study into a specific problem,
concern or issue using a scientific method.
What is Historical Research?
- Systematic collection and Evaluation of data to describe
and explain and thereby understand actions and events that
occurred sometimes in the past.
Example: How does a philosophy and religion shape
a society?
Research Question:
1. What impact did Christianity, Buddhism
Hinduism and etc. on the society?
2. How was a religion text (Bible, Quran)
is used to justify power, change, etc.?
3. What are the causes or impacts of the
spread of political philosophy?
4. How did a religion get adopted or
change as it spread?
Characteristics of Historical Research
1. Historical projects are usually conducted by one person.
2. Observation of historical research cannot be repeated in the
same manner as in laboratory experiments and descriptive
surveys.
3. The researchers must find satisfaction in spending vast of
time in the library and in pursuing minute details in relation
to the topic under study.
4. The writing style of the written report tends to be more
flexible.

conclusion, generalization and interference become
subjective.
Importance of Historical Research
1. A study in the past makes people understand the present
better.
2. Historical Information’s serves as a preliminary to reform

4. People are motivated to respect the contributions of the
people of the past to the present state of things, specially
those of heroes.
