The document analyzes and deconstructs the opening title sequence of the film "Cyberbully". It notes that the title gives insight into the film's subject matter of technology and the internet. The names of the two main actresses are shown individually to signify their importance to the story. Additional cast members' names are shown together, indicating less prominent roles. Musical cues and character introductions provide early clues about the film's message while misleading viewers about its darker themes. Crew credits follow a typical order that highlights the director and main stars. The multiple production companies involved and unconventional ending of the title sequence suggest a lower production value made for television rather than theaters.
2. The first thing we are introduced to is the title of the film. This illustrates the
importance of the film as it’s shown at the very beginning.
The font used is clear but doesn’t really stand out from the scene which
doesn’t give much away about the film . However with the title being
‘Cyberbully’ we can assume that the film will be about the internet and
technology as ‘cyber’ relates to IT and virtual reality.
3. Not long after, as medium shot of the main character is shown with the
actress’s name shown on screen. We can tell that she is the main character
as it’s her name that shows up first and it’s on it’s own; no other names are
grouped together with it which gives it more importance.
4. The name of the second main star is then shown. Again, we can assume this
as the name of the actress is on the same screen as the character. She’ll play just as
an important role as Emily Osment’s character since her name is on it’s own too.
5. Two other names are shown
however the importance of these
stars aren’t as prominent as the
last two as the names are shown
without the character being on
screen.
From these scenes, it confirms what
the film may be about from the props
used such as the computers.
Also the music is quite upbeat which
gives off a positive feeling, which
could mislead us to what the film is
really about. In a way it sugarcoats
the real, darker message that this film
will want to put across to its audience.
6. The crew is then shown one at a time which is typical of an opening title to a film, with the director
being the last part of the crew to come up on screen. This shows the importance of the director as
we often remember the first thing we see (the main stars) and the last thing (the director).
7. The production company is shown not
only last, but at the end of the entire film
which is very unconventional of an
American film, however this film was
aired on TV rather than in cinemas. This
could give us an idea of the production
value of this film, which I’d assume to
be quite low.
The production company isn’t any
of the ‘Big 6’ companies as it’s a
Canadian TV and Film Producer
specializing in TV films and series
programs. As we can see quite a
few other companies were involved
in this production which shows the
the funding came from a variety of
sources.
