2. INCEPTION
➤ The film poster for Inception is a picture
photoshopped to include key iconic
moments in the film which will create
recognition for the audience therefore
attracting them to the poster. The colour
scheme of the poster has a blue tone and a
grey colour scheme to it making the bold
red film title stand out. The placement of
the title draws attention to the bolder
white writing of the release date and the
recognition of the directors previous works.
The most famous actor has been given the
biggest font in order to attract an audience
and the other main characters have been
given a smaller font. The tag line links in
with the image, the theme of crime created
by including weapons and the theme of the
dreamworld identified by the bending of
the road which has been created by editing.
3. SOURCE CODE
➤ The poster for Source Code has grey colour
scheme, making the fragments of image stand out
from the destruction in the image and allows the
red release date to stand out also making it
memorable and eye catching against the grey. Jake
Gyllenhaal is seen running as the floor falls away
which is made up of images representing
memories of which he is running away from. The
tagline links in with theme of him running away
from the disintegrating pictures creating the
theme that time is running out, a theme in the
film. The mise en scéne of the rubble and the
weapon of a gun makes the action genre clear,
establishing target audience. The style of the font
is very artificial and computer like, linking to the
artificial programme in the film.
➤ The layout of this poster allows the text to be
scene clearly as the tag line is at the top of the
poster where the background image is least busy.
The image of the star is centred to draw attention
to Jake Gyllenhaal. The most eye catching part of
the poster is the image, the title and the release
date as the title is highlighted as it has been edited
to look metallic with a light shining on it making it
the lightest area of the image. The red release date
is effective as it is the most colourful part of the
poster.
5. CONVENTIONS OF
POSTERS
➤ Tag Line
➤ Photo including main
character’s
➤ Names of Actor/Actress’s that
play main characters
➤ Title of film
➤ Release Date
➤ Director
➤ Billing Block
6. THE BILLING BLOCK
➤ The billing block is the legal lines
that are required in film posters in
order to identify the cast and crew of
the film, giving them credit for the
work they have created for the film as
there are legal agreements between
various companies in order to create
the film. For example in my billing
block I am using Sony Pictures as a
distribution company and therefore
will include Sony Pictures in my own
billing block for my poster.
➤ The font used for the billing block is
often a thin tall text that looks
squashed (Universe 39 Ultra
Condensed) and varies in size
highlighting the names in larger text
and using a smaller text for phrases
like ‘Costume Design by’.
