Finals. The table below indicates that there are just 77 teaching days remaining and that our
Grade 12’s will be wise to start the new term in earnest to prepare for the three major approaching
exams.
We thank our Teachers, Pupils and Parents for their support this term.

5. URGENT NOTICE FOR ALL PUPILS
NO pupils will be allowed to go home early on any day or after a test without a written letter
from the parent requesting this. No emails!
Permission for going home early will only be allowed for emergencies.
If a pupil is too sick to stay for the full day after a test, then they must not come to school to
write, but must provide the school with a medical certificate.
PLEASE NOTE!
All pupils are required to be at school at the regular time - 07h55 - even if they are not writing a
test. This time will be used for consolidation or tasks organized by various subject departments.
All parents are asked to please be aware that when your child misses a Monday or a Thursday
test, a relevant chemist slip (the date on the slip must pertain to the pupil’s absenteeism and
medication bought), a certificate from the clinic or a doctor’s certificate is required. A medical
certificate from either the clinic or the doctor is applicable for missing any exam. A note from you
excusing your child from school for the days missed is also required.
Grade 9 and Matric pupils must produce a doctor’s certificate for tests and exams missed as
these are the two exit phases and their marks are externally moderated by the Education
Department.
Learners are not allowed to go home immediately after a test if they are ill. They have to stay until
first break. If they are ill, then they should not come to school. A doctor’s certificate will be
required.

5) BOYS’ HOCKEY TOUR TO HOLLAND
“It was an extremely long flight to reach our
destination in Holland as we departed from
Cape Town and stopped off at Dubai, before
leaving for Amsterdam.
We spent the first day in Amsterdam
exploring the city and the boys did a lot of
shopping. These boys are shopping more
than women.
We had a training session with a Dutch
coach. Thus far it has been incredible. A lot
of the boys hired bikes on our off-day in
Amsterdam and saw different parts of the city.
We visited the Anne Frank museum, and had
the most amazing fun at Snow World where
the boys skied and snowboarded.
The hockey has been just as great with the 1st
team winning 3 out of 3 games so far, and the 2nd
team winning 1 and losing 2. We also got to
watch a Hoofdeklasse match in Holland which was
a huge eye opener for the boys. We are looking
forward to the next 9 days and can't wait to share
the rest of our journey with you.

Well done to the U14A girls’ and boys’ teams for a very successful D.F. Malan Tournament.
The boys where unbeaten, and the girls won 4 games and only lost 2 games. The girls beat both
D.F. Malan and Stellenberg.
Good luck to the hockey girls taking part in the Brackenfell Tournament.

6) PARENT FORUM
Appeal for Props for Annual Production
Every second year, Fairmont’s actors, singers and dancers put on
an Annual Production. This year, we look forward to another
original production from our talented script writer,
Mr Fanie Basson. Although the Production will take place in
August, there are a couple of props that may prove a little difficult
to source and so we are asking Fairmont families for help in
sourcing these early. We are looking for pieces of antique furniture
similar to those shown below. If any Fairmont families have any
which they would be willing to sell, donate or lend to the school, we
would be grateful if you would contact us. Alternatively if you have
contacts in the antique furniture business, perhaps you could help
us?

Last year saw the Parent Forum embarking on a new fund-raising venture in the form of a Matric

success.
This year, we are planning on doing things on a much larger scale……….Go Big or Go Home they
say!
The expo, which will be titled MEˣ, will include all aspects of the complete Matric Experience, and
will take place from the 21 - 24 May 2015, at the TYGERVALLEY SHOPPING CENTRE!

8) LIBRARIAN’S CHOICE
THE KEEPER
by MARGUERITE POLAND
When lighthouse keeper Hannes Harker is posted to a
remote island with his wife, he discovers something long-
hidden in the tower that caused him to lose his footing
and fall. Seriously injured, Hannes is evacuated to
hospital and nursed back to health by Sister Rika, to
whom he haltingly tells the story of his life: of his mother’s
mysterious death, of his wild young wife, Aletta, and of
the desolate island inhabited only by the lighthouse
keepers and guano workers – two communities confined
together, yet rigidly separated in one of the bleakest
places on earth. With the arrival of a figure from Aletta’s
past, her own secrets erupt into the present, just as the
simmering tensions and injustices endured for so long by
the guano workers erupt into a single, shocking act of
violence.
The Keeper is the story of two generations of lighthouse
keepers – men obsessed by their duty to the light – and
the wives who accompany them into a life of frightening
isolation.

10) WON LIFE : VOLUNTEER AT OUR LITERACY CENTRE
The Literacy Centre, run in Fisantekraal, is a volunteer-driven organization that relies on willing
members of the public to volunteer their time reading with those learners eager to learn this very
important milestone.
With each volunteer, Won Life is able to extend their reach and really make a difference in the
community of Fisantekraal. If you can spare an hour or two each week, please email Won Life on:
info@wonlife.org.za
Watching the faces of these children as they reach each small milestone will give you a great
sense of reward.
14. 11) SPORT RESULTS
RUGBY - Boland Landbou School Mutual & Federal Agri Rugby Day
This tournament was held at Boland
Landbou School in the lovely
countryside of Agter-Paarl, with
spectacular views.
Fairmont played the first game against
Langenhoven Gimnasium,
Oudsthoorn. What a cracker of an
opener with the game being played at
great pace and determination. Our
opponents were too strong for us and
Fairmont unfortunately went down 3
tries to none. The morale was a bit
low but, after a good team talk, the
boys overcame the defeat and were
ready to move on.
Our last game was played against
Paulus Joubert, Paarl. The boys
understood the seriousness of this
game and, with good warm-up exercises, began to prepare themselves for their last game of the
day. A real spirited effort was unfolding with Paulus Joubert having a backline that was quick and
fancy.
Fairmont’s game plan was to take it on upfront and be patient before unleashing their backs. The
battle was immense and the boys shifted up a gear to front up to this tough opposition. When the
end whistle blew, Fairmont walked off the field scoring 3 tries and the opponents none.
I would like to congratulate every player for the manner in which they played, with true
sportsmanship on and off the field.
A big thank you to our parents for their support; we can look forward to a very exciting 2016
season.
Mr “Ou Pappa Bear” Cronje
15. CRICKET
U15A
The U15A team beat Brackenfell by 9 wickets in the semi-finals on Thursday. They will be playing
Bellville in the finals on Saturday.
Congratulations, boys! Good luck for the Finals.
U14A
The U14A cricket side is playing Stellenberg in the KnockOut Final on Monday, 30 March 2015.
The game is taking place at Stellenberg, at 13h30, and will be a 40-over match.
We wish these young men everything of the very best in this KnockOut.

18. 17) PRINCIPAL
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Fairmont community and pupils of our school for all
they have done for our school this term. Without the support from our parents and the enthusiastic
input from our pupils, we would not be able to enjoy the great achievements we enjoy at Fairmont.
A special thank you to our staff for all they have done for our pupils during this term.
I wish all parents, our staff and pupils a happy vacation, and we look forward to Term 2 of 2015.
Yours sincerely
Mr R Dingley
