This document provides information for students starting a two-year stonemasonry apprenticeship program. It outlines that students will learn skills in both the classroom and workshop to develop their abilities as stonemasons. Safety equipment requirements are listed for both the workshop and classroom. The document also introduces the teaching staff and provides the course timetable and calendar.
2. Welcome to Stonemasonry
By enrolling on this course you begin
your training as a stonemasonry
apprentice. Over the next two years
you will develop your abilities as a
stonemason by learning new skills in
the College and applying them on
site.
Your training will be split between
the classroom and the workshop. In
the classroom you will learn about
the technology behind the work you
do in the workshop. In the workshop
you will learn to shape and build
stones for use in a variety of
structures.
3. Welcome to Stonemasonry
As an apprentice you need to be prepared to learn. Good attendance
and timekeeping will be essential as will patience and determination.
Whether you have spent years working with stonemasons or are
coming straight from school you will find the course challenging and
rewarding.

High visibility vest
In order to successfully complete your apprenticeship programme
you are expected to bring an number of items to College every day.
Some of the equipment should be supplied by your employer (boots,
high visibility vest and hard hat), the College will provide you with a
respirator and safety glasses.
5. Classroom Equipment
You are also required to bring
various items for classroom and
theory work. You will be given a 2
week period to purchase these
items. All items can be bought
from most good stationary shops.

the breaks throughout
the day. Remember if
you are going to be late
for any reason it is always
best to contact your
course tutor.
