1. CIRCULAR NO. 28
3 September 2015
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)
“SOMETIMES THE HARDEST THING AND
THE RIGHT THING ARE THE SAME.”
by The Fray
This morning our matrics wrote their CAT Practical Exam.
Our Grade 12 learners are all well into their prelim exams and we wish them all the
very best.
2. 1) ACADEMICS
In just under 2 weeks from today, our Grade 9’s will be writing their ANA assessment papers. We
hope they are consulting the handout that was published last week in preparation for the English and
Mathematics assessments.
Four weeks of school remain before close of term and in this time there is much work to be covered
in the classroom for our Grades 8 to 11.
We wish our matrics well as they proceed though their exam sessions.
CLOSING TIMES
Due to our Staff Development Programme, the closing times for the following 2 dates are:

PLEASE NOTE!
All pupils are required to be at school at the regular time - 07h55 - even if they are not writing a test.
This time will be used for consolidation or tasks organized by various subject departments.
All parents are asked to please be aware that when your child misses a Monday or a Thursday test,
a relevant chemist slip (the date on the slip must pertain to the pupil’s absenteeism and medication
bought), a certificate from the clinic or a doctor’s certificate is required. A medical certificate from
either the clinic or the doctor is applicable for missing any exam. A note from you excusing your
child from school for the days missed is also required.
Grade 9 and Matric pupils must produce a doctor’s certificate for tests and exams missed as these
are the two exit phases and their marks are externally moderated by the Education Department.
Learners are not allowed to go home immediately after a test if they are ill. They have to stay until
first break. If they are ill, then they should not come to school. A doctor’s certificate will be required.

11. 10) E-GAMING
Results of the MWEB 20th Western Cape Championships
Fri Aug 28, 2015 4:33 am (PDT) . Posted by: "Colin Webster" mindsportssa
The MWEB 20th Western Cape Championships that was played on 22 & 23 August 2015, and which
was hosted by Fairmont High School, Durbanville, proved to be a great success. Elize Crouse
proved to be a most efficient administrator, and the problems with which the MSSA had to deal with
were unexpected late entries, as well as some of the teams not being aware of the rules of the
competition.
What proved to be most pleasing was the number of learners that had attended the event. In fact
only four events out of the 11 for which there were sufficient entries were not won by learners, and
then three out of the four were won by educators.
Of course, much of the growth in the championship is due to the announcement by the MSSA that it
will be sending a full team to the 7th
IeSF World Championships in Seoul, in December 2015.
The strength of gaming at school level bodes well for the growth of gaming both nationally and
internationally.
With so many learners more than ably competing with their older counterparts, the MSSA is confident
that it will find a great deal of talent in the schools. This talent, will be nurtured in order to provide a
more aggressive competitive base in South Africa, which will hopefully be able to be translated into
results on the international stage.
Thus it was not surprising to see the MSSA hand out Senior and High School Provincial Colours to
no less than 36 gamers.

RUGBY REPORT
1ST
Team : Fairmont vs Westerford (Home) - 29 August 2015
Waking up and realizing this is the last game of the season was not a happy feeling at all!
The build-up to this game had been immense with our boys putting in some good effort on the
Tuesday afternoon and a final structures run on the Thursday afternoon before the game.
Game 17 was going to be an all-important affair for our team due to various reasons. It was the last
game for the Grade 12’s and a revenge game by the team of Westerford wanting to get some pride
back after losing 21 : 27 against us last year.
Zooming on our players arriving calmly, one could almost sense that today of all the games they
played together was going to be the one that counted. They warmed up quietly and, as the time
came to go the field, the belief was there in the air.
The hunger and determination were in the eyes of each player walking on the field, shaking the
opponent’s hands. They were so ready to give it their all.
Our grade 12’s lead the rest of the team by singing the war cry “Many Tries” one last time as a team.
It was riveting and we all experienced goose bumps as everybody heard the effort and pride with
which it was performed.
What a game this would turn out to be, and Fairmont soon sent out a strong message of their intent
to show the opposition that this was going to be a tough game.
Both teams could be complimented for the intensity they brought to this game and neither wanted to
give an inch with good sportsmanship displayed by both teams.
14. They were no longer 15 players … they were one (One Team – One Spirit) and would play their
hearts out for each other, their coaches, parents and everybody who supported them during the past
season.
The game that eventually took place can only be described as moments of glory that will not be seen
again by these player, but will live on in their memories for eternity.
Fairmont Bears won 64 : 0.
A big THANK YOU to the Head of Rugby, Pappa Bear/Pieter Cronje, and the Coaches, Liaan Scriven
& Ronald Olckers, for their passion and commitment which contributed immensely to our 1st
Team’s
success in 2015.
THANK YOU to Mr and Mrs Dingley whose presence at matches was an enormous boost for the
boys.
THANK YOU to the parents, family, friends and other members of the Fairmont Rugby family who
supported the team through thick and thin.
THANK YOU to Mr Horsthemke, Mr De Pentieros, Mr Strydom & the ground staff for their help behind
the scenes.
Lastly to our Almighty
Heavenly Father all
Glory and Praise for
our achievements on
the rugby field in 2015.

15. GOLF
The Golf Team for 2015 has done us proud. They have not lost a League match this season and
have now qualified to play in the league finals between the Northern and Southern Suburbs on
12 October.
A big thank you go to Build-A-Way, HDM Brokers and Honda Tygerberg for sponsoring part of our
tour to the National Schools Championship in Pretoria from 4 - 7 August 2015.
NETBALL U16 C & D
The U16 C & D netball teams have had a phenomenal season this year.
Our biggest success was when we defeated Settlers in our league match after having lost against
them in the derby day. The girls have really shown passion, heart and commitment this year and I
am very proud to have been their coach. Unfortunately there were not enough teams for us to go to
play-offs, but they have definitely proven to be a top team this season.
Well done ladies!
