2. Contents Page Initial Drafts
Isaac’s Initial Draft Tobi’s Initial Draft Ewan’s Initial Draft
This design follows a
conventional layout. The
images are placed
appropriately and it was
inspired by another real
acoustic music magazine
to make it as authentic as
possible. The horizontal
columns are a feature of
many acoustic music
magazines.
This follows a conventional
and appropriate design
scheme. The layout is
orderly and neat which is
conventional of all
acoustic music magazines
and shows a clear
understanding of the
target audience.
This design is conventional and is clearly
inspired by the target audience research
survey. The columns are appropriate and
are designed in a way that will appeal to
the target audience. The placement of the
images are appropriate and shows that
the design scheme has been planned out
well.
3. Contents Page First Draft
For the contents page, we used the
same colour scheme for the text of
green, orange and red. The green is for
the headings, red for the description
and orange for the numbers. The layout
follows a cross format with the heading
in the middle and two images either
side. It is set out due to the two halves
of the magazine with the artists
accompanying the image of the main
artist and the instruments on the
bottom with the guitar.
4. Tobi’s Comparison Of Initial and First Draft
The designs for both
contents page drafts
are mirrored in a lot of
ways. They both follow
the same structure and
look exactly how they
were expected to look.
5. Isaac’s Comparison of Initial and First Draft
The designs are similar but at the same time
the first draft is a big improvement as it was
made after the audience research survey and
so is much more conventional and relevant to
our genre.
The first draft also incorporates a colour
scheme which was based off our audience
research survey and is typical of acoustic music
magazines.
6. Manipulated Image
• For the contents page, we used a
very minor (and very low
standard) manipulation on the
guitar. Because we had not taken
an image of a guitar which was of
a good quality, we chose to use
one from the background of
another image. After cropping it
down, we then used the healing
brush tool from Photoshop on the
area surrounding the guitar.
Although it was not done to the
highest standard, the size of the
image on the page makes the
details very minor and almost
unnoticeable
7. Peer Review
• When we got back results from peer
reviewing, it was mostly positive. People
liked the colour scheme and the use of the
same font as on the cover helps to show
they are from the same magazine. It was
pointed out we had made an error on the
final heading by using the wrong colour
and we had mixed up the exclusive article
and poster as they were now out of
chronological order. Once these are fixed,
we do not see what other problems there
could be and neither could my peers.
8. Contents Page Draft Edits
• Taking on the details of the
peer reviews from other
designs, we made a drastic
change for the next design. The
colour scheme was edited, but
kept mostly the same and the
structure was changed to be
more conventional. The image
used for the artist was changed
to match that on the cover
(Which is a conventional way of
arranging images) and the rest
of the page is chronologically
laid out in a typical style for an
acoustic magazine.
9. Final Contents Page
For our final contents page design, we made several changes
from the second and third draft to make it as conventional as
possible.
Some of the text on the page was changed to white to make it
more consistent with the front cover and double page spread.
We also moved the page numbers to the top to again add
consistency with the double page spread.
We also added an editor’s note, as this is conventional and fits in
line with our genre. Many other acoustic music magazines do
this.
The contents page was also rearranged into categories and because of this made a double page spread to make it fit, and
also to accommodate for the additional pictures we added. It is very conventional of acoustic music magazines to be
organised into categories rather than having the pages listed numerically, so this is why we made the change.
There were also more orange lines added to make the magazine have a house style as the other pages use a similar design.
We also added a website along the bottom, as well as the magazine name, date and issue number to make it look more
