The student learned several skills in progressing from their initial school magazine to a full music magazine product. For the school magazine, the color scheme was boring and layout was cluttered with too many fonts. The music magazine cover was a marginal improvement with a more enticing color scheme and fewer fonts, though it could have included more content. The student was proud of the contents page, which continued the color scheme and logo in an easy to understand layout. Overall, the double page spread turned out well but the student notes it could be improved by adjusting the photo placement to avoid being split by the magazine fold.

Q 7.
1. 7. Looking back at your
preliminary task [the
school magazine], what
do you feel you have
learnt in the progression
from it to the full
product?
2. I think my school magazine was quite poor.
The colour scheme was boring and wouldn’t
attract anyone. The lay out of the front cover
was quite clumped together and “blocky”. I
also think I used to many types of font and if I
had used less it might of unified the look.
However I think
the photo used was good and I
learned all the skills that were
necessary to create my music
magazine.

3. I think my front cover of
my music magazine was
only marginally better
than my school magazine
cover. The colour scheme
was appropriate and more
enticing and I used less
fonts and more logos. The
photo, again, I think is
quite good but the cover
could have had more on it
as it looks a tad bare.

4. I’m quite proud of my contents
page as it uses the continued
scheme and “Rift” logo. I
separated my articles into regulars
and features by doing so making
the content page quick and easy to
understand. I added an editors note
complete with signature that I made
on the same logo site I made the
“Rift” and “South Fiction” logos on;
this give the contents page a more
personal touch. I used two photos
in my contents page to fuller
illustrate my articles and keeping
with the “Rift” theme they are both
live photos

5. Overall I think my double paged spread
has come out really well. The colour
scheme is still used and I think is really
effective. I have again used two live
photos that capture the energy of the
band and reiterate what kind of sound
they make. I texturized one of the photos
so it would break up the background and
provide the double page spread with a
different look that can still be connected
with “Rift” magazine. I used a quote from
the band and put it in the same font as
the South fiction logo, connecting the two
and making it stand out. However I
realise my double page spread has not
come out perfectly as the fold in the
magazine would go through the main
photo of the band and some of the article;
if I were to do the magazine again I would
fix this.
