The author learned several things from audience feedback that surprised them. While they initially believed their target audience would be teenage females based on early feedback, their actual largest audience is males aged 18-24. They were also surprised to find a large middle-aged audience and viewers from countries beyond the UK like the US, Canada, and Russia. However, they were not surprised that most views came from computers and phones, given their broad target age range, or that the UK accounted for 64% of views since the school is located there. The author also expected views to decline after the initial launch due to less promotion over time.
1. Evaluation Task 3 Part 2
What have you learned from your Audience Feedback?
2.
3. Some of our findings, which surprised me a lot, contrasted those of our audience
feedback/research.
The first thing which stood out to me almost immediately is the fact that we have a
larger male audience than female audience; in our audience feedback videos we
primarily interviewed women (however also males), but they seemed more
enthusiastic about the video. When I did external feedback the responses I got were
from females only, which lead us to believe that our audience would be female.
The main age group which enjoyed our video was at the 18-24 mark, which was
expected, and also reflected through the people which we chose to evaluate our
storyboard animatic, and also the music video. However, that we do have a large
audience in the middle-aged group does not surprise me, as when I conducted external
research I received positive feedback from those of an older age group. This leads me
to believe that we were successful in creating a music video that would be able to
target a larger audience, whom would then also enjoy it, and watch it for an extended
amount of time before clicking away.

5. That the main views for our music video came from the computer or a mobile phone is
the least surprising factor of all. As our target audience is quite broad and goes across
all ages, it is safe to assume that most of the audience owns a computer to watch the
video on. Due to the fact that we primarily assumed that our audience would be
teenage females, it is also not surprising that the sheer amount of views come from
mobile phones, as YouTube is an easily accessible app on a portable device. Next to
this, from when having conducted the audience research, the video was sent around
within a variety of Whatsapp groups, which then made the audience view the music
video on a phone. Also, this reflects the difference between the age groups, and that we
both attract older and younger audiences. We seem to have hit a niché.

7. The fact that the largest audience is in the UK (64%) is not surprising to me at all, as
the school is located in the UK, and when the music video released, most people, ergo
students from our school, were within the UK to watch the music video. However, also
from my audience feedback, I am not surprised that we have also received views from
the U.S, Canada, and Switzerland - our audience is quite widespread and when I sent
around the music video to give feedback on, it was a global audience which I had asked
to feedback on it, and not only those located within the UK. Surprisingly enough, we
also received a large amount of views from Russia.
Due to the large amount of views I have received on my blog, I am also not surprised
that the largest traffic source is labelled as “external source”. This means that people
actively look at all of our blogs, and have probably seen the work which we have been
doing.

9. I am not surprised that our views have gone down since the launch of our music video,
due to the fact that we ourselves do not spread it around as much anymore, and also
that the Hurtwood House Media channel isn’t that popular unless students have
uploaded new work, which is either in December or in March. Therefore, I am not
surprised that our views have not risen drastically since.
